The Internet is Always Crying The difference between Mario and a Unicycle is that Mario isn’t real and a Unicycle is real with multiple examples of them irl being red. The only thing that gave Pixar some “credit” was that theirs was red in the first place. Also the Mario analogy is just garbage because a Unicycle is identified as a Unicycle, not as a certain character from this small cgi short film. Mario is identified as Mario because he is distinct and memorable to the point were you can immediately tell when he is being ripped off.

While I don't regret choosing the Mega Drive as a little girl (Ecco, Ristar, Puggsy, and of course Sonic were just some of the amazing games on that system), I do sometimes wonder what my childhood gaming experience would've been like had I chosen the SNES instead. It _was_ tempting, Super Mario World looked really cool. 🍄 I never went too fangirl, I was given a Game Boy and Zelda: Link's Awakening a few years after the Mega Drive, so I never believed either brand sucked. I also don't regret choosing the Saturn over the Playstation, the Saturn had some excellent games! Arguments over Xbox/Playstation/Neo-Geo always look so ridiculous to me, if the games are good the platform shouldn't matter much.
@HelpTheWretched5 жыл бұрын
I was from a SNES household, but occasionally me and my Sega friends would trade systems for a few weeks to experience the "other side". Those were such fun times, even if the games weren't necessarily better. I couple times I even rented Genesis versions of games I owned for SNES when I knew they had some differences. One thing that stood out was the Genesis audio; though it was technically "inferior" a lot of games had sounds and music that were tailored to its unique tones. I'm trying to imagine Sonic the Hedgehog music on a SNES, it just wouldn't work!
@DissociatedWomenIncorporated5 жыл бұрын
@@HelpTheWretched, I would argue that it's not technically inferior, it's just a very different approach. SNES music is basically low quality samples played by a tracker, whereas the Mega Drive had a proper synth chip to generate music (and sound effects, and occasionally really weirdly grainy speech, the Streets of Rage "HUUAAAAAARGH!" is permanently stuck in my head). You're right, the Sonic music wouldn't work, but if you _really_ wanna experience great Mega Drive music, you gotta try Puggsy, Mickey Mania, Ristar, Ecco the Dolphin (and sequel), Rocket Knight Adventures, and Thunder Force IV 😁 I know, I know, that's a lot to ask, but every one of those is a damn fantastic game (although Ecco is very divisive) that you gotta try if you haven't already! I gotta say though, despite me finding the SNES tracker/sample approach generally inferior, a few SNES games created some really wonderful soundtracks that way. Final Fantasy IV, V, VI of course, Super Metroid, and I'm saving the absolute best til last, Earthbound. You cannot _grasp_ the true form of the Earthbound OST's awesomeness! 😂 Sounds like you had a lot of fun with console switching, sadly I'm a Brit and the SNES was a lot rarer here because the prices were silly high, so I only had the brief opportunity a few times to try it before I started to use emulation.
@HelpTheWretched5 жыл бұрын
@@DissociatedWomenIncorporated When you compare the audio hardware using such examples of soundtracks, then yeah, you're absolutely right. It's hard to say either is better than the other, and I only meant that by looking at the numbers; SNES has more channels and higher bit depth. Yet, it often sounds "softer" because the samples tend to have lower KHz than the Mega Drive's synth. No worries about the amount of recommendations! I am familiar with Ecco and Mickey Mania so the others mentioned in the same breath have got to be good! And I've heard bits and pieces from each of those SNES games to know there's some brilliance there. I've wanted to listen to each one of them in-depth, but I know that they were composed to compliment the scenes and settings of the games, and a big part of the listening experience is lost when you don't know the games themselves very well (especially Earthbound)! Just one SNES soundtrack recommendation from me to you, and that's Spider-Man & the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge. Such an underrated game and score. It has some nice electric guitar and organ tones that the Mega Drive version struggles with (sorry, I had to say it). Imagine a comic book came to life, then try to imagine what it *sounds* like. Well, here's your answer!
@DissociatedWomenIncorporated5 жыл бұрын
@@HelpTheWretched, how can you say the Mega Drive struggles with electric guitar? Just watch the opening scene of Thunder Force IV! 😁 I think the problem was... the SNES had hardware that was simpler to use, so a mediocre musician could make a mediocre, generic soundtrack that wasn't awful. But if you didn't know how to use that synth chip effectively... well, the _worst_ Mega Drive soundtracks are generally far worse than the worst the SNES has to offer. Plus many games used a sound driver I think provided by Sega that was pretty awful but easy to use, while Sega themselves would use different, better, but harder to code for drivers, as did a few of the wiser third party devs (Traveller's Tales, etc). I'll try to check out that soundtrack tomorrow, it's sleepy time for me now!

it surprised me that the See and Say Mario Phone Game ™️ was animated better than the Super Show, World Show and The Mario 3 Show. Note: doesn’t UniRacers/UniRally look like a flash game from newgrounds, just add some thick outlines and it’d be a fit.

I don't remember which console it was but this Japanese guy stabbed his mom after they closed his console with a Dragon Quest game that he couldn't save which ran for a very long time..

DMA Design actually turned into Rockstar NORTH. Not Rockstar Games. They didn't change their name/alias until 2002 and Rockstar Games was founded and created in late 1998. But same difference, Greg.

Wait! Is Uniracers a rare game?! I got it when I was young, and didn’t care for it, so it’s been storage for decades now. I guess it makes sense, because when I got a SNES (a few years after N64 released), my mom tried to buy rare games for me if she found them cheap, and she even did the same with PS1 even though she specifically said I wouldn’t get a PlayStation until PS2 lol.

Sad to hear you guys refer to Yoshi’s Island as the sequel to Super Mario World. That was just western marketing spin. Yoshi’s Island in Japan had nothing to do with Super Mario World and was actually the first game in the Yoshi series that is still running today.

Wow, that was pretty dickish of Pixar. It's not like their unicycle short got all that much exposure. I didn't even know about it until I saw the shorts collection years after they became important.

Okay so for literally the last 25 years I have believed Mario and friends were feeding green pumpkins to Wart in Super Mario All-Stars and now that you've corrected me that they are peppers everything makes a lot more sense

All these people talking about how digital sucks and physical is better for game preservation =b then there's all these videos on how there's so many games that are rare to get and/or have no known copy that allows for it to be recopied/remade. Mean while consoles with digital stores let you make as many backups of the game that you want o3o

My mom never bought me Yoshis Island because of the commercial alone. Isn’t that insane? She thought the whole game was gross or rude just because of the commercial.

Had the game developers made the unicycle any other color at all, they would have won against Pixar. This is the stupid power of human psychology.

That is a really neat top-patron thing at the end of the video. Unique and fun. Bonus points for using one of my favorite JRPGs of all time.

Sue a video game company just because a unicycle looks like the one used in the short despite it looks like any other unicycle?...yea that was a dick move by pixar

Nintendo sounds like that one kid that’s really good at making art but doesn’t show anyone because he’s too shy and self-conscious about his own art and just hides it from people or only shows a little bit.
