There's a further story behind why Pokemon Puzzle League was never released in Japan. It's a bit long and pretty obscure, so prepare for a long comment. I'm a little obsessed with the Puzzle League series. :p First, a bit of backstory. The original Panel De Pon on SNES, when localized into English, was re-worked into a Yoshi-themed game and renamed as Tetris Attack. The whole "magical girl" thing likely would not have gone over so well with western audiences, with many people likely to think it was a game targetted towards only young girls. Furthermore, the puzzle game genre at the time was mostly synonymous with "Tetris" thanks to its huge influence due to being bundled with the Game Boy system. Nintendo presumably thought that a well-known name like Tetris would help to sell the game, alongside the Yoshi character (Yoshi's Island was set to release soon, which explains why they chose a Yoshi's Island re-skin for the game). Fast forward to the N64 and Intelligent Systems is indeed working on a follow-up, Panel De Pon 64. Nintendo also chose to localize this game, however, the creator of Tetris had grown to regret his decision of allowing Nintendo to use the Tetris name, and so would not give Nintendo the rights to use the name again. Since the SNES days, the Pokemon series had blown up worldwide, so Nintendo decided to reskin the game with a Pokemon theme. To fit that new theme, the game was re-branded "Pokemon Puzzle League" (I assume after the "Pokemon League", the area at the end of the game where the player faces the Elite Four). Since then, the name "Puzzle League" has stuck for the series outside of Japan. However, complications came up on the Japanese side of things, and Panel De Pon 64 ended up never being released on the N64! It WAS, however, released years later on the Gamecube as the Japan-exclusive title "Nintendo Puzzle Collection". This collection included PDP64 (Now renamed to just "Panel De Pon"), Dr. Mario 64 (Which was interestingly also never originally released in Japan), as well as a new version of Yoshi's Cookie. The Nintendo Puzzle Collection version of Panel De Pon shares many similarities with Pokemon Puzzle League, including a 3D mode not seen in any other Puzzle League game and an identical sound font for the music. Some evidence exists which suggests that Nintendo was intending to localize Nintendo Puzzle Collection (Including a fully-translated and localized GBA demo of Puzzle League that was found on the disk!), but unfortunately, it never saw a western release. Honestly, the entire Puzzle League series has been a localization nightmare since the very beginning. I'd say it warrants an entire video of its own. The Puzzle League fan base is quite small, though, so it may fall on me to do that someday. xD Anyway, hope this was interesting to somebody. We're still holding out hope for something new other than that joke called Animal Crossing Puzzle League. Intelligent Systems seems too interested in cranking out Fire Emblem games and new IPs right now to care about Puzzle League OR Advance Wars, which greatly saddens me (Not to mention Paper Mario and WarioWare, both of which IntSys have worked on in the past)... At least we have Wargroove now. And I'm holding out hope for Super Plexis to actually come out someday, lol. Slight correction: the English demo was actually not found on the disc, it in fact came from the English 2-in-1 Dr. Mario & Puzzle League cart. Even so, it featured a character and some music from Nintendo Puzzle Collection's Panel De Pon, which are not heard in the actual cartridge release. Also, there isn't just "evidence to suggest" Nintendo Puzzle Collection was getting a western release; it was in fact announced officially at E3 2003, but canceled shortly afterward. A darn shame, really.

It's also considered invalid for Speedruns, just like later revisions of Banjo-Kazooie. If you submit a speedrun that uses the Shindou version, they invalidate your run and BAN you.

X2011racer How come? Can’t there be a subcategory or something? Seems weird to ban someone just because they used another version of the same game in actual hardware. It’s like if a Sonic Mania speedrun were made and submitted but banned because they didn’t have the Mania Plus DLC. I don’t know anything about how speedruns are accepted, other than emulators are frowned upon, but it seems weird to me to ban a rerelease :/

@@Hiroku1998 Some are logical due to loading time and framerate differences such as Banjo-Tooie XBLA, but others like Spyro Reignited Trilogy ver. 1.03, Super Smash Bros. Melee PAL version, and Banjo-Kazooie XBLA are outlawed because of bug fixes that actually remove bugs necessary for speedrunning. Otherwise the community is super stingy and literally hates everyone.

Pokemon Puzzle League was thought to not be released in Japan because their Pokemon anime is obviously different from our Pokemon anime, and they wouldn't get the different plot. Instead, they got the lesser known "Pokemon Puzzle Challenge" for the GBC, which is basically a Tetris Attack clone but with lots more features.

Heck MP2 is the only one that got a Virtual Console release, so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the only Mario Party included in a potential N64 Mini because it seems to be the bigger go-to for Nintendo than the third game.

ZombieBarioth Not counting the Ultimate titles, Rare has made ~120 games, and they fully own 64 of them at most. Mr. Pants is in maybe five of those games. And about your ownership statement, when Banjo-Kazooie was released it was 100% a Nintendo IP created *for* Nintendo *by* Rare - it was fully owned by Nintendo. During the Microsoft deal some IPs were traded amongst Nintendo and Rare/Microsoft and Banjo-Kazooie is now owned by Rare. Diddy Kong Racing, however, was 95% owned by Rare except literally the title ‘Diddy Kong Racing’ and the characters of Diddy, Banjo, and Krunch (Rare owns Banjo now) - so yes Rare still owns the entire code and music for DKR plus the entire cast minus Diddy/Krunch. The level Greenwood Village appears in Jet Force Gemini which is a game that Rare has always owned (made by the DKR team) and still appears in the emulated version of JFG on Rare Replay because Rare does in fact own the code to DKR. Obviously the only way we’d see an emulated version of DKR on the Switch is if Microsoft/Rare license it for Nintendo’s use, and obviously it will never be on Xbox because Nintendo would never license Diddy or Krunch for a non-Nintendo console nor would they ever allow a game called ‘Diddy Kong Racing’ to be on a non-Nintendo console lol. But to conclude, yes the statement on this video is outright false, and no there is no logic to which games Mr. Pants appears in. He’s in a few Rare games and there’s nothing more to it.

Your life count is stored as an 8-bit signed integer, so 999 lives is exactly the same as -25 lives (the minus sign is displayed as an M). The coin count will still update behind the scenes, meaning the life count is being set on every frame until your coin count resets to 0 or you manage to collect enough coins to overflow the counter from 32,767 to -32,768. This makes both 1-ups and deaths meaningless, and softlocks you for talking to Yoshi (he keeps giving you lives until you hit 100, but any amount you have gets overwritten with -25, so he just keeps handing them out ad infinitum).

The thing I cared most about was when they showed 4 player split screen multiplayer for Star Fox 64, it was ground breaking at the time, on TOP of the rumble pack. Really a crazy time for console gaming.

Jet force Gemini was a game I preordered and got on day one, it was such a great challenging game that just kept you wanting get further and further into it, I remember the title screen changed several times as I advanced thru the game, the graphics and ambient sounds were just straight out amazing for the time!! I have great memories of staying up very late playing that game....

Thank you for includeing Clay Fighter 63 1/3. .... say, did you know? There have been no less than about three or so attempted of recreating the clay fighter series. The first was going to be a Wii eshop download of the original N64 version with some slight changes. The 2nd was going to be a 100% HD vershion which would use the real photos of the clay fighters in the game. The final was someone on twitter who went a bit too fast. They never had permishion to start but they were redrawing a few of the charcters as a point of reference and had a small team. When the property owner learned of this the twitter acount was shut down and the art work lost. Good luck.

*Don't know when they'll be uploading again or what it will be, so I'll leave this here, in regards to the Projared situation* : I loved Jared, and I love Normal boots and all it's linchpin members. They're around my age and all grew up with the same childhood as me. I've been a part of this community for six or seven years now. It saddens me incredibly what happened with Jared, and I think it's in everyone's best interest to move on from him. That being said, I still believe in Normal Boots, and I still love Peebs and Jirard and the boys from DYKG. I think we need to rally together, because I don't want to see them fade. I would like to propose officially fusing the key members of hidden block with Normal Boots (of course they can do as they please). The association with Caddy, Ian, and Jeff are already very very strong. Maybe bring in PushingUpRoses (Sarah) as well. I think it would strengthen the fan base and lift all ships with the tide. Regardless of what happens though, let's just stand up for NormalBoots and forget about Jared. He's done but the rest of the squad are still here for the ride, and we're gonna ride with them.

Izanami was already a major part of the original Megami Tensei and is the reason for the franchise's name, it literally translates to "Goddess Resurrection" ("New/True Goddess Resurrection" after they changed it to SHIN Megami Tensei) Izanami is the goddess the title refers to.
