I personally have always loved TAS Spider-Man game. It had a nice mix of Spidey's villains and unlike Maximum Carnage, it was a good balance of challenging and beatable. In some ways, I would say that game makes a case for itself as the best SNES Spider-Man game. It's a close second to Maximum Carnage, and it's certainly worth checking out. Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety were games based on actual Spider-Man comics, by the way, not games they just slapped Spider-Man's name on. All of the characters in Maximum Carnage appear in the story in the comics. It was fucking amazing.

The name "Separation Anxiety" was the name of the comic book story arc that the game was based on. It's a term for when people have excessive anxiety from being apart from their home or loved ones - or in Venom's case, having part of his alien symbiote "harvested" from him and turned into five new villains.

It's called "Seperation Anxiety" because that's what the comic book storyline it's based on was called. While attempting to seperate Eddie Brock from the Venom symbiote, it spaws 5 more symbiotes asexually. Hence the name "separation anxiety".
@MetallizombieАй бұрын
That’s not entirely correct. The five symbiotes were created during the Lethal Protector limited series. The Seperation Anxiety limited series came later, where he again had to face them without his suit, as they were seperated at the time.

Aside from the slightly less refined art design (& the notoriously disappointing ending), I thoroughly enjoyed Separation Anxiety. I think the Gambit music stage is one of the best music tracks for any video game, ever. Totally worth listening to. Also, there's a trick in the Gambit level that allows you to earn infinite stars, which means 99 lives in ten to fifteen minutes or so of playing. Game becomes much more manageable with that many attempts.
@dimelo88262 жыл бұрын
Yeeees my sentiments exactly ! the gambit song was the best and the level I played the most. Loved both gambit levels the music and action and gameplay. The extra lives was the only way I can beat the game. Couldn’t stand cyclops stage. Would land in the mine carts perfectly and still would fall into the tracks. Storms level was a bitch but I learned the order and best it every time. I still recall as a kid how I didn’t understand what to do in wolverines stage for the longest time. Juggernaut was scary as hell in that level 😂
@billyd5301116 жыл бұрын
Maximum Carnage isn't as hard as it gets credit for. You have to know where the 1ups and extra heroes are. Carnage is tough but the trick is to keep switching between Spiderman and Venom to get that second of invulnerability, and be patient. Do that stuff and it's beatable.
@Zakon6735 жыл бұрын
I really do think Separation Anxiety is better than Maximum Carnage. The difficulty is much more balanced, the enemy AI is better and the controls are tighter. But most importantly, it has co-op, which just instantly elevates it higher than its predecessor. Maximum Carnage's only real advantage is the comic cutscenes. I can't even fully agree that the sprites are worse, since I think the only one that looks worse is Venom. Additionally I have to wonder why you believe that the enemy types are the same. Separation Anxiety has all of Maximum Carnage's enemies, but also introduces a bunch of new Life Foundation enemies, and has entirely new bosses aside from Carnage.

Spiderman Maximum Carnage is one great beat em up. I dont understand your criticpoint "i want more special moves like in ff.." i mean you got a lot of moves, dash attack, standard jab chain, the invincible attack that cost you health, web pull, web pull double smash, web capture, grab and pummel, grab and throw, grab and spin throw, the backflip, straight jump attack, jump forward kick attack, wall cling and dive and the webswing kick...... So yeah isnt that enought? You also got combos like jab jab web pull pummel jab jab and so on, its effin awesome dude :D You also missed out on explaining the game engine in more detail, in maximum carnage you can do power strikes (power strikes kill most of the goons in one hit) but you have to be accurate to get them which means dont get hit and land your attacks to build up the blinking life bar for a power strike (it also brings some more strategy to the table on when and where to use the powerstrike). When you are missing hits you lose the powerstrike so the player is discouraged to be a mindless button masher (this is a beat em up, crahahazy) but rather to think about when to press a button and being more accurate. Also the mentioned hero assist icons act like a screen clearing bomb, some of them are especially efficient in killing certain bosses , think megaman but its a beat em up. So this game has really more depth than you would expect on the first look. anyway great video, keep up the great work

Don't care what anyone says Maximum Carnage and Separation Anxiety were awesome on the SNES, granted they were a bit difficult and it would've been nice to have a way to save or something but still back then they were fun. Once you figured out what worked best for you it got easier, i found that using the throw to toss enemies into each other was the most health efficient way of getting through levels. If you approach from the right angle you can grab them without being hit, throw them into the enemies behind you and then hit them all at the same time as they get up. Bosses were the only thing that turned into a race to see who's life bar drained first, but if you managed to save most of your lives and continues by throwing regular enemies there should be enough health to get through the bosses. 😄👍

Honestly, Maximum Carnage is the best Spidergame on the SNES, yes. It ties in with the comic book arc of the same name, that went all across the Marvel-verse tbh even if the main focus was on Spidey's crew. Its not the best beat-em-up maybe, but you gotta give credit for the music and the sheer satisfaction of bashing chumps to bits. Personally though, I don't think you give Arcade's revenge enough credit. Yes, the artstyle and music are kinda weird, but they fit. The gameplay is fun though, especially with Wolverine having to literally claw away some walls. Juggernaut is a pain in the rear though.
