I remember playing V2 multiplayer back before 3 released and your characterization of it isn't wrong. Lots of sitting around and waiting for the enemy to make a mistake which might be realistic but wasn't very engaging.

I think it's funny the enemies from 5 seem to be twice as aggressive as the ones from V2. In 5 they definitely went overboard.

The V2 multiplayer was amazing at the time. Really intense and there was a small but committed crew of recurring players and we played all the time lol. I’ve got a bunch of PS friends in my friends list who I’ve not played with since those V2 PS3 times. Sadly, most of us seemed to give up on the game around the time of the launch of the PS4 when we all moved on. Great memories and hello to any of the old players reading this :)

The issue with these games is that every following one supersedes the previous one in MP. People do come back to play the campaign, but because multiplayer depends on many people returning to these games at the same time, that never happens. Also, to be fair, V2's multiplayer is massively underwhelming after the SE4, almost pointless. Unless you want to do a one-on-one, which is fun to do in any game of this sort.

I used to play multiplayer all the time about 10 years ago and it was great fun, the best guns to use were the pistols My Loudoun in MP Lee-Enfield Mk 3 MP40 TT-33 And the Gewehr 43 was way overpowered

A thorough and fair review. Coming from Sniper Elite 3, the first two games were really underwhelming. The AI is dumb, the weapons are poorly made to the point of being useless and the stealth is near nonexistent. The story was interesting but it has less dialogue than in the original, with a single deuteragonist in order to turn 5 missions into 10. If they had remastered this game into a superior standard, with the consistency of AI and weapons accuracy from SE3/4, this would be a great game; but Rebellion just tweaked a few pixels and sold the same game. Only buy it in a very generous sale.

v2 is/was most unique from their series. I remember playing it as small kid. I didn't knew what I was doing but every shoot I felt as insane detail.

I bought SE4, played, completed, enjoyed. Bought Zombie Army 4, played it for about 5 minutes and never played it again. I then bought SE3 expecting it to be worse, turns out it was really good and didn't look any worse than SE4. Then I bought V2. Shit. Far too linear. People not appearing until you get to a set point etc. Purchased SE5, not as enjoyable as SE4 and the season passes were a piss take. I'll not bother with Zombie Army 5 so I hope SE6 turns up quickly.

The most cool thing about sev2 is that is both a ww2 game and a cold war game thats pretty cool

A exceptional profile on a classic, terrific breakdown on the good & bad within the quite linear but excellent game. I find "Snipe Elite V-2" more challenging than any of the others after it, just more linear & I personally don't think that's a bad thing.

I still replay it, and prefer it to the 3rd instalment for the grittier feel. The story with the Soviets is, of course, utterly ridiculous (especially to a Russian), and I am always annoyed at the usual poppycock about how 'the Americans won the war for everyone'. As a game, however, I like it at least as much as the 4th, and I think many would, if they played it as intended. Meaning, if you play it to its maximum sniper potential, trying to find a way to kill from the maximum possible distance, then it can be a blast. From this come two further points. First, some of the maps are better for this style of play (and the DLCs offer excellent opportunities, both Neudorf and Landberg Canal), but one or two you will will have to suffer through (that covered transporting facility where you need to essentially Welrod everyone). Second, approaching it as a distance kill game predominantly overrules any issues with the submachine guns which are only in the game to cater to that particular brand of players who think SE is (or should be) like Unreal Tournament. Play it as a sniper (well, as much as the game lets you), and it is a great game even today.

is there any reason why you chose the original V2 over the "remastered" version?
