People often forget that fixed 10x scopes did just fine for a good while. My first precision rifle was a rem 700 sps tac with an SWFA super sniper mil/mil and that system outshot a lot of people in field positions who were too busy chasing bughole groups and high power scopes.

Excellent! Right on point! When higher magnification scopes became more affordable, I got swept up on up close acquisition. Over time and began scaling it back and down. Having that extra magnification and not using it is like a good safety net. Made me a a better shooter, as well. Charlie Mike!

I'm somewhat limited in that I live in the appalachian mountains, so a good percentage of my shooting is 400 yards or less (and for that reason I stuck with .308 for now) but 4-16x has worked VERY well for me. 4 works great for close up work and even hunting. I can crank up to 16 to get target detail, range it out, etc (also for load development) and my optical/reticle sweet spot is 8-12. Plus it saves a little bit of weight.

10-12 is perfect. I shoot ELR and the targets range out to 2500 yards and I’ve never shot over 15x. Usually I’m between 10-12x is perfect

Great vid. Here in central Wa. this time of year mirage is just terrible. Every time I take a new guy shooting they are jealous of my Razor 4.5-27 when I tell them I never go past twenty they look at me like I am stupid. Shot a mile last Saturday and was only on twenty. At a thousand I am usually at 12-14.

I'm curious, what's the purpose of mounting a 25 power scope? Is it preference?
@SHLowlight5 жыл бұрын
regaeontop all personal preference but a 25x is one of the most common ranges out there

Agreed, I shoot a 3-20x50 pm2 and hardly ever go above 12.

Great points, I dig my Mk6 3-18 because I dig the low weight and never really want more than 18.

Cole W I was thinking of getting the same scope for the same reason! it's lightweight and has more than enough adjustment. what distances are you shooting with it??
@GucciGearQandA7 жыл бұрын
I've been super happy, shot out to 800 yards so far. Plenty of magnification to shoot tight groups at 100 on paper too for my eyes. Hard to beat a high end optic for 24 ounces
@seansemrau69957 жыл бұрын
Cole W How clear does it look when the magnification is up at 18x when shooting that distance? also what reticle did you go with?
@GucciGearQandA7 жыл бұрын
I am pleased with the clarity. If I wanted to put my glass-snob hat on, I could tell you that throughout the mag range, the glass image quality overall doesn't appear to my eyes (20-15 thanks to lasik and I'm young) quite as crisp as some S&B's and Premier I've used. That said, its good enough for me to be happy and its the cheapest scope I could find with the Tremor 3 reticle, which is what I got. I haven't made enough use of the wind dots yet to say its worth it, but I know Buck Doyle and Todd Hodnett are big fans and some of my favorite instructors. I like the H59 reticle a lot so I would say if you can find one with that at a good price- buy it.
@jordanpizinger53097 жыл бұрын
How is the Tremor 3 reticle? Is it easy to catch onto? I've only used traditional mil reticles and looked through a H59. Thanks

So Frank, would you say the ATACR 7-35 is too much mag for prs comps? Thanks

honestly i know a lot of people might tell me there's better but i use a 3-9x50mm leupold vx-2 and i used to love the higher power stuff but after shooting a lot with the 3-9 i found i do better with it.

So for an 18" 308 gas gun, would I be better served with a 3-18 MK5 HD, versus the 5-25 MK5 HD?

Thanks for all your videos Frank! I was wondering though, have you had any hands-on experience with the newer IOR scopes yet? I know they had a few issues in the past, but the newer stuff seems to be quite well-sorted both optically any mechanically. Is this all just clever marketing?

glass is the same, you are splitting hairs when you talk glass with these scopes and all the others in this price range and above, these are scopes not spotters

@SHLowlight7 жыл бұрын
of course, you need need a lot of magnification to successfully shoot to 1k, I use a 4-16x in a lot of variations out to 1500m
