Way before 'The House of the Dead', there was 'Beast Busters', a pretty obscure video game series from SNK. And I say series because there are three games in total: This game from 1989, the super rare sequel that came out for the ill-fated Hyper Neo Geo 64 in 1998 and an spin-off for the Neo Geo Pocket Color under the name of Dark Arms: Beast Busters that came out in 1999. This a classic. This, Steel Gunners and Space Gun were fun shooters although I only played Space Gun on DOS. I wish I could play Beast Busters: Second Nightmare but it's a rare game that was only released on the short lived Hyper Neo Geo 64.

I totally hear you. I have Steel Gunner, Space Gun, and Second Nightmare but they are all hitting the rarity side of things for sure. Hopefully you can play them at some point here but if not, I put up a vid on second nightmare a few years ago, Im sure its still there.

I don't think it was your skill so much as that was just how hard the game was. Played it at the arcade when it came out and loved it. I do have a vivid memory of one time at the mall, there was some sort of possibly hardware malfunction or glitch that if you hit 2 of the coin buttons hard at the same time it would give you free lives on the center gun (It definitely wasn't set to free play cause it was inconsistent and you had to hammer the buttons a few times, this was also 30ish years ago from a 8 year olds memory so don't take this as gospel), Got all the way to the final boss and then mom showed up to drag me home. It was fixed next time I came in lol.

Wow! what a story! Im sure you must have been quite upset when you got to that final boss lol. That is some cool info about the coin trick though, too bad they fixed it. Such a neat story though. It would be cool to track down a 3rd controller some day but the 2 I have for now is good enough. Thanks again for sharing and for checking out the vid!

The guns are basically really big joysticks that you move to move the cursor. They don't rely on getting any information back optically from the screen.

I think this style of gun is more like a joystick, with potentiometers in the base.

Hey Jose, thanks for the kind greetings and question. Unfortunately the term "Light Gun" games has been used for games over the years that arent light gun games at all. These kinds of games revolve on potentiometers that manually move the cursor to the correct position on screen. There are several games out there like this, those being the Sega Lets go Jungle games, Terminator 2 Arcade, Operation Wolf, Beast Busters Second Nightmare, Zombie Raid, Revolution X etc. Hope that helps out and greetings back at you from Japan!
