wtf where’s the audio? the fact that it was so raw and below standard is why it was cool

Dissenting comment. The last thing I wanted to see was footage with the album version on top of it. This performance was historic in that they were convinced this was their last performance, as Richards was awaiting sentencing for smuggling heroin into Canada. He was allowed to make the trip because of the contractual obligations involved and the promise he would return, to go to prison if that turned out to be the judgment.

@@MahlonEdwards At the time it was shown live, it seemed very weird the way Jagger said "Goodbye" at the end of the performance. I suggested we just saw their farewell performance, and everyone said I was high and laughed at me. Only when Richards' memoirs came did the true story came out. His sentence turned out to be a hefty fine and he had to return to do a benefit concert in Canada.

It's not the original live sountrack (to bad) but the record. It was a rude period for Mick cause of Keith and Ron hard drugs addiction. Keith was charged with "possession of cocaine and heroin with intent of traffic" in Toronto 77 and the final sentence came in 78. It could have been Stones end cause Keith risked 7 years in prison.

Not sure if I would use the term "gawd awful". A sub par Stones performance is still better than 98% of what you'll usually see and hear. I remember reading a book about SNL and it stated that the Stones had been rehearsing and partying hard all week and that by Saturday, Jagger had blown out his voice and the rest of the band looked spent. Even Keith looked like he was ready to pass out at any moment. Lorraine Newman did a skit on the show with Keith and she reportedly said later "I've never performed with a corpse before". It certainly was not their best moment.

great synching of the studio recording with the Stones live performance........it was so disappointing the night of the SNL show back in 1978 ....Jagger lost his voice before the live performance and as a result his vocal performance was not up to paar ......while it's true that this substituting of the studio track into the live appearance is misleading ....nonetheless for someone who has the SNL version already it's fun to hear the studio track and imagine what 'might' have been had Jagger not lost his voice --- cheers, D

@@blachubear Yes, that is true. Reportedly, Jagger and Belushi (and maybe others) did so much cocaine that it impacted Jagger's vocal chords making him sound more like a frog than Mick Jagger. He still had the look, the moves and the attitude, but the voice was in tatters. Also of note, Jagger screams "don't f**k my wife" on the last line of the song "Respectable" and NBC never edited it on the west coast broadcast or repeat.
