It does my heart good to see you reading your micrometer or caliper while it is in contact with the part so you ensure an accurate reading.

John, Could you show your lathe reversing function sometime. Sounds like a motor-type phase converter, that you have to reverse, or actually reversing your drive motor. Thanks

You dropped an oil can, and didn't say "Bastard". 😊

John I reckon beating on a collet does them good---some times they are good, other times they need some incentive to behave..

What is that nice thick substance that we see you using as cutting oil / paste?
@SeanBZA Жыл бұрын
Valve grinding compound, normally comes in a little tin with a lid both sides, one side coarse and the other side fine, that you use to do the rough cutting, then the final lapping in with. Basically carborundum powder, 2 different grit sizes, mixed with straight mineral oil as carrier, till it makes a thick paste. What John is using for his parting tools is Royal Purple oil, and also sometimes another brand of cutting fluid, depending on the tin with the brush that is closest.

The dark brown stuff? Rocol RTD.

@@SeanBZA Thanks, I was asking about that paste he always uses for parting and threading. I wasn't asking about valve lapping compound. Royal purple. Ok. Looks brown, but Ok.

@@retromechanicalengineer Ok, now I have two different answers here in the comments. I'll wait for John to answer.... 😉😉

@@fredflintstone8048 I use RTD too. Good stuff and you can thin it with ordinary oil if you need to.
