These are freakin' GREAT tips. No banter, straight to the point, explain the problem, the cause and a fix succinctly. A little bit of humour thrown in to break it up a little. Perfect recipe.

Love your videos! Back in time a pool coach told me his technique for straight cueing, He calls it the "bottle-f**k". Lay an empty bottle on the table and get in your stance, cue into the drinking-hole. If you don't touch the bottle, the cueing is pretty straight. Don't know if this works with snooker, because the tip of the cue is smaller, but just wanted to share :) It helped me alot for my cueing in Pool for sure!

Helping side is called gearing english in the US games. It is using an amount of outside english that eliminates friction, hence kicks. It varies according to speed, from 1/2 tip offset on slow half ball shots to 1/16th tip on faster 7/8th ball shots. These are approximates to enable an understanding of the variables. Reducing the potential for kicks or frictional aiming effects comes at the cost of having to estimate tip CB deflection or squirt. That's why understanding pivot point mechanisms is very handy, to reduce the error in tip CB deflection / squirt. A pivot point (particular bridge length) is where aligning at CB centre, then pivoting for side, results in the same cue ball path. e.g. If bridge length is very long, the CB will travel opposite the side the CB is hit, if too short, it travels in the direction of the side imparted.
@colincolenso
@colincolenso 2 жыл бұрын
For those wondering about the bridge length for a pivot point in snooker, for a cue like Ronnie O with a 9.4mm thin brass ferule, it's around 12-13 inches, for an off the shelf 10mm tip with a thicker brass ferule it's around 8-9 inches. On longer shots and slower shots and shots on grippy nap, the Effective pivot point becomes longer due to swerve effects. Once this is mastered, there are some aspects of throw to consider (that is, the way the Object Ball changes direction according to CB speed, spin and angle of hit). Users of BHE are very accustomed at using Inside English, which is the opposite of helping speed, as the high spin (outside english) between CB and OB surfaces reduces friction at firm speeds, making the shots almost as easy as firm follow shots. That is, if you know your pivot point.

I use two golf tees and place them upside down close to each other with the white ball on the opposite side, and play with the que in between them to check my que action to make sure its straight. If the left or the right falls, I know my que action was off. If I do not make the shot, I know my aim was off. Much love, from South Africa, Mpumalanga - Witbank.

He maybe good on a practice table in his basement but can he do it under pressure. Has he enough time to pratice and not be bogged down with family commitments. You also need sponsors to fund you because traveling on the road to tournaments takes a lot of money, hotels, food, transport the list is endless. You’d need a high level of natural talent, and then the dedication to put in years of practice and high level play to refine those skills. Sponsors also won't sponsor if they don't see a possible return on their investment. Alot of good pro-snooker players that are ranked between 64-128 have part time jobs.

How come there's something that people almost never talk about, which is that you can have your cue dead in the center of the cue ball, but this doesn't tell you whether you're shooting across the ball? I.e. your back hand and cue tip can be out of alignment, which will put side on the cue ball even when the tip is clearly positioned in the center of the cue ball. Even if you have a perfect back and forward cue action. If the back hand/front hand alignment is out to start with, it will put side on.
