Snorkeling John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park Key Largo

Did you know you can stay in the Florida Keys for around $38 a night? This is something we didn’t realize was possible, thanks to the Florida State Parks! We got an RV site in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, located in Key Largo. This park has around 46 tent/RV sites, providing electric and water, with some of the sites even having septic hook-ups! We really enjoyed our stay! Online reservations can be done through the Florida State Parks.
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is well known for its amazing coral reefs that can be experienced by either the glass-bottom boat, scuba diving or snorkeling. We chose to do the snorkeling experience, which was our first time! We also swam at the beach area and kayaking through the mangroves, enjoying the crystal-clear waters!

We were just there early March 2023, but snorkeled from shore on the two beaches in the park. Looks like the boat trip is much better! Next time we’ll do that. How long did they let you snorkel for?😊

We liked snorkeling at the beach in Bahia Honda the best. The boat snorkeling trip was about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. It’s about a 45 minute ride out to the coral reef. The water was choppy the day we went so a couple of us got motion sick.

Could I get my 45' Class A in that park? How long is your coach? Also, what month was this?

You can fit there. It’s tight but it works. We have a 40’ Class A. We could not go all the way back because of our bike rack. We went mid March. We used the website Reserve.wanderinglabs.com to snag a last minute booking. We also stayed at Bahia Honda State Park. It’s closer to Key West. You’ll be able to fit there to. We are going to share the Bahia Honda video next week.
