Good run. I honestly thought with belly drum that Snorlax would have a pretty great time. But speed (and obviously a few other things) are the difference for how effective it was between him and Charizard. Plus between that and Double Edge, Snorlax was as much of a pro at injuring himself as his opponents were! Still, nice that some time got saved on that second run. Found a good path through it.

Considering the trouble you had with Fire and Ice moves from Blaine, Lorelei, and the Champion, did you consider Thick Fat? Or does Snorlax’s low speed cause you to take too many poison attacks and lead to a lot of lost time through the early and midgame? Were you ever missing ranges with Water Pulse, Psychic, and/or Surf? You could try a speed-lowering nature like Brave or Relaxed. Are there any critical outspeeds that you’d lose? Maybe Bruno’s Machamp? Adamant is another nature I’d be curious about, not knowing the ranges you’re dealing with. And of course one must still wonder about Curse. The safer setup might save time in the long run, and Mega Kick might serve as the same sort of tactical nuke as Double Edge.
@Eggsceptional7 ай бұрын
I had considered Thick Fat, but Immunity felt more useful, more often. Lorelei has Water moves too after all! I have a knack for being poisoned... I rarely missed ranges with my special moves which is why I stayed Impish in the second run. I actually just re-ran this on stream (recent Jynx stream), and I was wrong about this one. Curselax felt like it held a LOT more potential, despite the streamed run being slower.
@realperson697 ай бұрын
@@Eggsceptional Curse is a real nuisance to optimize, so I don't begrudge you for not going too deep on it... for now. Not only do you need to know the correct number to kill your opponents the fastest, but you also need to know when the defense boosts are helpful, when the extra turns (combined with low speed) expose you to too many hits and crits, and when there's a close match in speed you have to decide whether to go for the outspeed or surrender to Curse. Just one more argument to ban Curse. Somehow makes things both too easy AND too complicated. XD
@Eggsceptional7 ай бұрын
@@realperson69 I likely won't ever ban Curse. I'm way too in love with boosting moves :D Except Double Team... After doing the Curselax run my idea surrounding time saves in the gym challenges crumbled when I saw how much better Curse was in the leagues. A bit more planning sure, but probably a MUCH better run overall.
@tommasozoppi63527 ай бұрын
My feeling is that snorlax needs rest. Since it cures statuses you can also go with thick fat for blaine and lorelei. Also, curse could replace belly drum, in association with a -sp.atk +sp.def nature. Something like bodyslam rest curse and brick break/shadow ball may work.

In my runs I am always going for the fastest completion time, not necessarily the best Snorlax set. That said, I'm not convinced I had this one 100% correct. Snorlax is one strong and heavy bear. With belly drum on it's moveset and stab return, it's a very heavy powerhouse. The two things that may slow it down are the growth rate and that awful speed. The slow growth rate made you consider taking optional battles in the mid game especially,but made Snorlax have better results in both rounds of the league.😊 Slow growth rate pokemon usually need some extra grinding to get by the end game safely. Even though it's final results were neck in neck the swift mentis ,Sycther, that's kind of gen 1 magic added in the end, especially with sub strats on top.😂😂😂
@Eggsceptional7 ай бұрын
Snorlax was super tough to route! I feel so many people think I did it wrong because they're focused on what a good Snorlax looks like, not a fast solo one. @@Eggsceptional Speed vs consistency is always an issue and is one of the bigger arguments in the solo run community from what I can see. Eggcellent sir Eggcellent and interesting. your love of boosting moves especially belly drum seems to have gone a different way here. Snorlax on the face of it seems so perfect for it with its already massive physical attack stat and bulk especially the HP and yet its seems to have far worse use of it especially compared to Charizard when you used it for the egg move. I think it was a matter of speed that decided that one. Charizard is not as bulky but it is quick and out sped most of the game and thus would only take one hit after setting up instead of one before and one after, thats the difference, its not the Snorlax wasn't good, it was simply taking too many hits in exchange for that set up and more afterwards. with that in mind, I am almost tempted to say try again, but instead of double edge for the egg move, have curse and go for a relaxed or sassy nature both of which reduce the speed but increase with the defense or special defense, really lean into the fact that Snorlax will not out speed anything and just go for max bulk and attack, through in some recovery and it will not matter that it is slow. overall I'd say Snorlax went very well, I know you had been looking forward to using one for a run to using double edge to see how good a recoil move could be in a run and I think the sleepy bear made very good use of it despite the recoil. 1st run of course there were teething problems, thats how it goes, but the 2nd run was quite superb. there are possibilities for it though, we talked in the chat about rollout and defense curl and do think it could work and I also think leaning into that special move pool a little more for the sake of coverage and dealing with the big defenders. surf for onix and steelix and psychic for weezings I think was a very good move on your part and worked nicely for you. its a shame Amnesia doesn't boost special attack in Gen 3 like in Gen 1, I think you'd have fun with that. Snorlax is a tricky one like that, BWT HP ghost, very nice choice, a little more risky as you need the TM10 from pickup but so much cheaper than shadow ball. you'll like this, in Gen 3 it gets shadow ball, in Gen 4 it gets crunch, as if to replace its physical damage from the split. there are so many possibilities with it because of its stat spread and its movepool, who knows, if you ever run it again, and I hope you do, you could do completely different sets every time and cone out a winner with each. all of that being said, I think if and when you try belly drum Clefable or even calm mind clefable, you will do better, purely because you have similar bulk and attacks and move pool but you will have more speed, which will make a difference as you will outside more and take less hits and have a better chance to use that set up. I'll be trying that myself shortly after Raichu is done. maybe breed a belly drum Clefable to see how it compares in the R2 with calm mind. Raichu is going, I have just evolved it and the difference is profound, without light ball, Pikachu might be fast but it is super frail and doesn't hit nearly hard enough, but with Raichu you effectively double all your stats except speed so it is bulkier and hits harder physically than light ball Pika. I know you tried Riachu with Scott not long ago, but I think doing a proper run with it and an egg move or maybe surf will demonstrate the difference between evolving and broken held item.
@Eggsceptional7 ай бұрын
Thank you, thank you. My love of boosting moves seems to have finally led me astray a bit. Charizard was way easier to use Belly Drum with. One turn of pain, then a sweep usually. Snorlax was getting pummeled too much. After some thinking I figured that Double Edge saved way more time over the gym challenge than Curse would have in the leagues. I could be wrong! Curse in the leagues could have been a lot nicer to use for sure. Oh man.. If Amnesia boosted a mixed stat in Gen 3 like in Gen 1 this run would have been absurd. Probably no physical set up, just STAB coverage with Amnesia and BeamBolt or something. Getting rid of the STAB for recovery by the league likely. Hmmm... I wonder how hard it would be to change the effect of Amnesia to +2 SpA/SpD instead of just SpD? More things to write down and pursue next time I have time for Snorlax. Physical Crunch would have been incredible too. I have Snorlax earmarked to re-explore on stream sometime (I want to give the run time to stew for a while). I think Belly Drum/Calm Mind Clef might have to happen sooner than later. I've been itching to play it since I first ran Clefairy/able as my... 6th video? Something like that. Running fully evo'd Clefable phys VS spec would be so fun. I was just looking at the movepools the other day and thinking about how I'd do it. I think my standard ruleset with Raichu, going HP Water over Surf would be just fine. I think it'd do quite well, but again I want to give the run time to stew before jumping back in.
@jptheflipper38257 ай бұрын
@@Eggsceptional it did seem that way, its a similar problem Chansey and Blissey has, have all that HP and Special defense, but a break break or a low kick will KO and a good deal of physical moves are likely to do the same especially in the R2, Curse would of been better for that alone as you kept your attack boost (which is not entirely ended with that base attack) and adds to the defense which is definitely needed, I suggest defense curl for the same reason, the boost to rollout is a side bonus to that. I think you need to have a chat with Dan or Scott on that one, that I think is a matter of adding a line of code or something long those lines, but keep in mind, doing that so it boosts Snorlax may mean it boosts anything else with Amnesia gets the same, Lorelei's Slobro for example might become a menace. you'll like Gen 4 Snorlax, it is a beast and it does get to enjoy the new movepools and physical special split beautifully. give it some time to think on it, Snorlax has possibilities after all. its has been a long time since your 1st Clef vid, back in the way back when I used to leave a simple Eggcellent as a comment. you have learnt much in that time and I think Clef is ready and so are you for a revisit, you love of sub strats and boosting moves will mean clef whether it is physical or special will be a beastly run. I have a feeling special will come out on top despite the lack of movepool for the early game to make best use of it, but once it has it, it will gain a lot of time and I dare say a lot less resets compared to belly drum. there is something to consider with the belly drum variant; Clefables opening moveset is its whole moveset so belly drum will only boost pound against Brock and you're likely have to rely on metronome luck for Brock. also Clefable has a pre-evolution move in fire red and leaf green only in the form of magical leaf which it gets from Clefla, this might serve as a substitute to an egg move for special clef. just a thought. I can report back on Raichu as I have finished my run with it. I had to settle for HP grass which was only really useful for ground and rock types up until the league and then it dropped off a little. water would of been better, but I think ice is a good 2nd option. I will warn also, if you start a raichu run as a pikachu, it will suffer without a light ball, its why I suggest surfing Pikachu or raichu as Brock is beyond rough without it or any kind of coverage for ground types. I will also say now, the added bulk that Raichu has is helpful but tanking an earthquake is still a foolish dream for the pudgy electric mouse so be prepared for pain in the R2. on the plus side, you do get to use items more freely with raichu as there is no light ball for it and its physical set is better thanks to the higher attack. on a side note, I will be running clef now to see how it runs with a special set and if it goes well I shall breed a physical one with belly drum and test it against the R2 like I did with special Parasect to see how it compares.

I am a cynic when it comes to social media, I don't think of it as very social, honestly your streams are the most social thing I see online most of the time. you'll figure it out, should be interesting to see how it works out. to be fair, I think Annie C in the chat had the right idea about the special boost for Snorlax, it has that special movepool, you might as well make use of it, given if thats means a little a tampering with the code. thats fair enough, can't deny though, magical leaf would be a lot of fun for much of the early game and make Brock and Misty very easy or at the least not a nightmare. you are going to have so much fun and so much pain with metronome, I have had some odd moves with it so far. I used it to grind my Clefable up to a decent level for start of its run (Also got lucky as mine had HP water and was holding a moon stone when I caught it so instant evo) and I got all kinds of moves, arm thrust and blaze kick, fire blast and 2 hi jump kicks, icy winds and razor leafs, all attacking moves as well. I hope you have the same luck and I will make sure to report my findings with a special Fable. I'm not sure how bad Brock might be Pika with no without a light ball, but I strongly suggest having surf for at least one of the runs as it will save you maybe 20-30 minutes to the run, Pikachu is fast, so Onix will be rock tombing as soon as possible and tanking one is not likely and getting any kind of set up that might help it will take time, it will likely be a luck based run until you get past Brock at maybe level 20+. you're a busy boy, you are always forgiven for being late, I am English and much like Canadians I am obligated to be polite and apologize

@@Andre217 I don't pick up Leftovers earlier because of the requirement for 30 species caught. By Round 2 it's assumed that you have 60, whereas earlier in the game Snorlax would have had to go catching for them losing more time.

@@Eggsceptional yes I totally forgot you need to catch 30 then talk to oaks aide. I understand that's very counterintuitive when you're going for speed such a shame you don't just get as a gift like gen 2 that would of helped a lot
