I used to be so ashamed of being Inuit. I was adopted at birth, but Thankfully my adoptive family encouraged me to embrace my heritage throughout my life. It took me a long time to finally, truly, fully embrace that part of me but your music has helped me love myself fully

It’s hard, grew up outside the Rez of my dad and outside the Alaskan village of my mother. We can relight our ancestry. Stand up and be an unapologetic Native. I am, feeling better every year. " Get over it " I've actually heard that from a doctor at one of the Appletree clinics..... the next time someone says that too you, ask them " ok how do you get over the fact you people went after our children... not just once, but twice.... once with the " Residential schools " and then again with the 60's Great scoop and everything in between " ??? How do you as a person justify going after children from age 5 and up ??? I gotta tell ya, it makes my blood boil...... going after the most venerable of us ???? Didnt have the balls to take on the adults ???? Cause you knew we'd kick your ass..... then the genetic targeting of the blood lines of our Great leaders....the sterilization of our women without permission, with the help of the RCMP ???? So exactly how do you get over that ???? Targeting children ??? is that not a crime against humanity ??? 50 short years ago in this country ????? I know, I am one of those from the 60's scoop..... raised white but native in heart and soul.... I remember the stories from my Grandmother about how they where " stealing our children "..... Personally, my thinking is more like " start paying rent of get off my land motherfucker "....... I'm a half breed.... but after watching these video's and others..... I finally understand why I am so different than those I've been around all my life....why words like " honor, respect, truth, " actually mean something to me.... why who and what I am is more important than money.... I've learned more about being native from your video's than I ever did at Wabano Center in Ottawa...got no help from them.... Dont let the name fool you, I was adopted, twice, Ojibwa and proud of it...

Hello brother ! I am choctaw raised white and white skin but native heart souls spirit and the blood that runs through my veins Always glad to see more that have been stripped of their heritage standing up
@trulylivingthetrueliv
@trulylivingthetrueliv 5 жыл бұрын
Johnny Averheart ah yes blame the people that are the after effect of the genocide? I may look white I may have had my culture stripped from me before I was born being my great great grandfather was placed in the boarding schools not allowed to see his native family I am not a “5$ Indian” I have tested up while talking about the loss of a culture I haven’t gotten to know in this life we are down the line of a Chief Big Knife and that’s all we know before the government forced a white name on our family we were “haksinchit abi” my skin matters not for it’s the ancestors blood in mine. And as I am the only one in my family that continues trying to revitalize tradition through the gentrification...it’s really sad, the whole reason they have done this to our people is to divide us. Because a divided nation cannot stand for itself against a bigger bully You think I have not lived lives in darker skin ? Been adopted out into a white family and murdered as a child between 50s and 60s is one I have recalled raped and murdered by those that raised me for not conforming though torn from my family, hatred in your heart blocks out those that are truly Brothers and sisters from the creator.. I know the pain from both sides. You think I want white skin ? You think I chose ? No creator does that who are you to fault the creator on what soul he places in what body ? He has a purpose for all..
@trulylivingthetrueliv
@trulylivingthetrueliv 5 жыл бұрын
Johnny Averheart Because Native identity isn’t just a racialized identity. Native identity is political. We are citizens of tribal nations. So we can’t just talk about our identities purely in racial terminology. Thinking about our identity as purely race-based is another tool to wipe us out. Cause you can “breed out” this notion of “blood” but you can’t “breed out” citizenship. There’s also a deep power issue here-who has the “right”
@trulylivingthetrueliv
@trulylivingthetrueliv 5 жыл бұрын
Johnny Averheart oh and the. Trail of tears my ancestors walked on for me to be born and continue our bloodline ? Because I came out white to you that’s all for nothing ?? Keep the attitude than you are closer to “paleface “ ideas and ways of thinking skin color doesn’t make anything because it’s the character of heart and way you choose to treat others I take care of elders for a living it’s a selfless job taking care of those that can no longer care for themselves you know nothing about me and judge me your sister by my skin ?? How colonial of you🤔 I stand with my ancestors and with our Mother Earth ✊🏼 that should be enough as I’m actually going to act during these crossroads what are you doing ? Trying to judge for the creator?? Because I got a line for you straight from SNRK “Only creator can judge me! And the rest can f*ck themselves “
@trulylivingthetrueliv
@trulylivingthetrueliv 5 жыл бұрын
Johnny Averheart But instead of feeling ashamed, I’m trying now to turn the tables and think that I, instead, am the colonizer’s worst nightmare. Because history has tried to eradicate my people by violence and force, enacted every assimilating and acculturating policy against my ancestors, let me grow up in white rural country, and erased all the visual vestiges of heritage from my face-but still chahta My ancestors gave their “x-marks”-assents to the new-so that I could be here, fighting back against misrepresentations, through a keyboard and the internet.

To me it speaks to me on more than one level like my soul is downloading information from my family by sound in spirit to remind myself of something lots of things and it really portrays through your music that you speak to your people and you know fully in a heavenly Faith way that your message only gets to those who are meant to hear it who are truly your family it feels to me like in what we would perceive as the future we were sent back here to hold those information in our own blood to make sure that all of unity and all of the universe was one to prevent the end tethering and unsewing the God's own story I feel that when you saying reminding ourselves not to lose ourselves in the dream that is to teach us the dance of life but to know that we're here in specific purposes and we are always where we were meant to be but we can't forget our true nature is to go back to the all and to make sure that it always will be thank you for yourself my name is Ashley Pearson but I renamed myself Arielle my dad is Thomas jay Pearson Gordon Wade McElroy helped guide me I remember the library of life it's literally the center the all God and your song helps conect me to that

I'll never be able to express what your music and lyrics mean to me. I try to compare it to Rumi, Langston Hughes, Mary Oliver... the poets I've loved before because I think of you as poets. Incomparable... "something else." Thanks for these moments that make me feel alive and connected and full of useful rage.

No I will not cut my hair it is a symbol of Pride it signifies how we survived 500 years of genocide. So I stand up Brave with my fist to the sky with a chest full of rage and a heart full of pride. We are still alive. It is the truth. I am the proof. Our blood flows through my daughter. Our fathers walked a trail of tears to protect us from the slaughter. So we dance to forgotten songs that are sung with forgotten tongues. In an attempt to stay connected to the very land that we are from. This fight is far from done. I am repping from the block. And I dont plan to fade away. I'm planted on Standing Rock. The Apache of Aztlan Have not written anything in 5 years. Checked this out and immediately picked up the pen and wrote this. Big props!

Profit Omega our hair is also used to feel movement around us that we can not see. Warriors hair was used in battle like how a cat uses it whiskers or a snake finds prey with it’s tongue. If you touch the very end of a hair strand you immediately feel it at the scalp.

I have family in North Carolina and in Oklahoma. It breaks my heart when I hear my dad tell me the stories about my great grandmother and how she was forced to change her name and not allowed to speak her native language (Cherokee). My father loved his grandmother but she would even let my daddy play with her hair... he didn’t understand until he got older why she was so cold

Love this. I may be white but I have always loved the Native American way of thinking and the respect for the Earth and the artistry. For a while I thought I had a little Native American blood but DNA testing laid that to rest. My Great Grandmother on my Mom's side lived with the Native Americans down on the coast.

a'ho!! i was lead indiginous medic at Standing Rock, too many liars talkin too much crap about camp, there was only 2 deaths one was my best friend,also a medic, and another went swimming in the cannonball and never came back. I ran the medic camp, I built it, maintained it in -70 degree winter, I was one of the last to step foot off the land when the goons pushed us out. It aint over, it just spread. Late night actions are diffrent. Still ready for the gunfire, still listening for the helocopter...... mni wiconi Blue Lightning
