Just wanted to thank you - 8 years later and you're still saving people money! lol, you just saved me $220!!! people are charging half the price of my machine to fix it and it's 1 year old... idiots... I fixed it in 5 minutes watching your video and I know nothing about engines! So thank you again, you rock!!!

Thank goodness for guys like yourself. Have a Husqvarna 208cc snowblower that wouldn't start. Was ready to haul it in to a small engine shop and probably fork over $100+, but instead I watched this short video, bought some carb cleaner for $8, spent about 20 minutes in the garage, and it started first pull. Thank you!

I just want to say you totally ROCK!! Thank God for KZbin and guys like you. I have the same exact snowblower to Ariens sno-tek. What a great snowblower this is. I've had it for sometime now I want to say 10 years and it just finally started acting up. Thanks to your video I know exactly what I've got to do to get my snowtech back up in Tip-Top shape. Thank you again and you are deeply appreciated!

Hey, wanted to drop a line to let you know you helped me out big time. Grandfather stored snowblower over off season with gas...thought clogged carberator might be the culprit; but wasn't sure easiest and best way to go about taking this thing apart and cleaning it. Got 'er up and running this evening thanks to your video. Years laters, your video is still helping people. Good on you. Thanks.

Great video. Carb clogged over the summer and the first gas of the season all leaked out of the bowl. Dismantled as shown and was not shy with the carb cleaner spray. Good tip to clean the screwdriver too. Assembled, gassed up and she ran smooth after 6 pulls : )My leaked changed from a gush to occasional drip. Replacing the gaskets on the bowl screw and bowl top should fix that. Was able to move 24" of New Jersey snow out of an 80' driveway (8" at a time) with my single stage 179cc toy. My family, back and butt are grateful!

Great video - that was extremely helpful. After I'd turned off the fuel shut-off valve, removed the drain screw on the carburetor bowl and let it drain, and undone the carburetor bowl mounting screw / taken off the bowl, I found it easier to see what I was doing by tilting the snow-blower forward onto the front of the auger housing (service position).

Your technique was perfect. You didn’t put the blower in the “Service Position” so no gas leaked. You do not have to remove the carb as some of the experts said. The proof is in the pudding. Success & great job! Thanks for posting. You saved a lot of guys money!

Thanks for the video - was very useful. Mine is 28" craftsman snow king electric start. I used carb cleaner and added to the gas tank half a bottle of fuel-injector/carb-cleaner (can get at autozone/walmart). On the carburator bottom nut, the built in hole was clogged; sprayed carb cleaner thru it. Also kept the gas cap slightly loose for any vapor block to clear-up. Was able to start-up after doing this.

Thanks for showing a bit how it looks under there. Mine is surging bad and I'm figuring I'm going to have to do a cleaning, hopefully not a replacement. FWIW, I realize this is a old video and maybe someone commented on it before, but as far as I know the key, at the 12 min mark, doesnt 'connect' the wires, it separates the contacts they're connected to. Pulling the key out allows the contacts to touch and ground out the motor. Therefore, if you lose the key, connecting the wires will just ground out the motor and keep it from starting. You will need to push something inside the key way, like a stiff cable tie, to separate the contacts to get it to run. You could pull off just one of the leads, but the only way then to shut off the motor will be to either pull off the spark plug wire, shut off the fuel supply (clamp the line if you dont have a shut off valve), or wait for it to run out of gas.

I have the same machine. It worked fine the last storm. However today it was very hard to start and when I got it running, it did alright for a couple of passes and then quit. Then all i could do was start it and it would shut off within a minute or so. Not happy I had to break out the shovel. I will have to give this a try. What is the purpose of the 2 screws in the bowl? Most carbs usually have just the one. Thanks for posting the video

I have a Ariens compact 24 I bought used for $300. The person only used it a couple times. The electric start wouldn't work. I took the starter apart and found moisture had worked its way inside the stator and rusted it up and seized it. For the hell of it I took it apart and gently sanded it clean (mostly) with fine sand paper. Put it back together and it now works. A $175 dollar savings on that. On to the carburetor. The engine was surging. When I took it apart it was actually pretty clean through the needle. I cleaned it out with carb cleaner. However I did notice that the O-ring for the cup had white corrosion built up on it ( pay particular attention to that). My best guess is poor assembly from the manufacturer. The O-ring wasn't seated properly causing outside atmosphere to works its way through the O-ring into the cup. The small amount of murky gas inside was an indication of it. Im pretty sure this snowblower was surging since day one or shortly after. Everything is back together now and running great. I used a small amount of Parker Super O-lube to coat the O-ring. I'm a little hesitant about that. But if it causes issues then cleaning the carb again is a simple process.

I googled SnoTek carburetor clean as my 26" would not start - I thought I had winterized by draining, running the engine dry and adding some ethanol fuel stabilizer just for good measure, but neglected to drain and cleanout the carb. I watched your video, although minor differences on the 26" from your 24", had carb cleaner, air, walked it through carefully like you said, then put it all back together and the sucker started right up and is purring like a kitten. THANKS.

For what it's worth I have 2 MTDs one 24 and 1 10 years old when new i put small inline fuel filters on both and have used Sta Bil in fuel with never a problem, and i don't drain the fuel i top it off to prevent condensation, you cause more problems running them dry, even going against alot of manufacturers recommendations to run dry and mine start right up every winter here in PA. and this is with 10% alcohol gas. Also I have used Mobile 1 in both since new and in all equipment mowers , tractors etc.I consider it cheap insurance and change oil once a year in everything.

They mean run it completely dry from the tank as well. Than leave the cap off in the sun an hour to fully dry it. Also when you run the engine dry, you have to do it a good 5 times and keep hitting the primer to get every last drop, finally drop the bowl nut drain or drop the bowl and get every last drop out. If you do that their is no fuel left to go bad.

Thanks for the video, specifically showing disassembly instructions and how it works. I had a primer line crack as the problem, however this video gave me confidence that I can disassemble the carburetor and more importantly put it together. Everything worked after the line fix and I avoided dragging the machine to a shop, so thanks a lot for that. 👍

I had the carb rebuilt but once I figured how to install the carb with the gaskets in the right order, it leaks gas right out the primer bulb while it’s running. Like it’s getting more gas than it needs. Is that a float issue and shouldn’t that have been solved with the new kit the shop installed? What should I check for?

HELP! :-) Great video with clear instructions and good camera work. But... What I need help with is removing the air filter in order to get to the top of the carburetor. At 3:33, is that the air filter at top center, the gray thing with the hole in the side of it? Is that just the cover (like a heat shield), and the filter is in a fist-shaped housing underneath it? If so, then I think I need to remove those 2 nuts that are holding down that strange, half-circle silver clamp or washer like thing. If that's correct so far, problem is those tabs that are turned up, right against the nuts, which prevent a socket from fitting over the nuts. First of all, if I remove those 2 nuts, will that get me to the top of the carburetor, so I can spray some starter fluid into the carburetor? And if so, am I supposed to bend those tabs down out of the way to be able to remove the nuts? Why is it like that? And if that's NOT the way to get to the open carburetor, can you refer me to a video that would show me what to do? I would love to get this thing started and running tonight, so that I can use it in the morning. Snow has been on the ground for days! Machine won't start, probably because I didn't drain the gas after last season AND failed to use fuel stabilizer. My big bad. THANKS!

No, didn't figure it out. What I was looking at is the muffler. The mystery is this: Them manual talks a lot about the AIR filter, even says it should be checked before every use. BUT not only can't I find an air filter, the authorized repair service tell me they've never ever seen an air filter on a snow blower. None of the 3 manuals says WHERE it is or HOW to check it (as we are instructed to do). So it remains a mystery.

Thanks for The Video. My New Briggs & Strator Snow Blower, was starting & working fine last time i switched off in May, but now cannot start it, even by electrical start, wonder, if carburetor needs cleaning? Kindly advice. Thanks.

What are you unscrewing with the screwdriver? I don't see any screws when I look up at mine. Are you putting it in the hole that has the threads?

Great video, Thanks! I have fuel that runs out of the hole where the needle goes. As long as I have gas in the tank, fuel runs out of that hole. If i put the floater with needle back in, it leaks, if I push the floater up, it stops. Blower runs great but it leaks after, when it sits. Any ideas?

I have a 24 inch grey body craftsman 19th with basically the same engine look/ style/ setup. Mine runs for 30 to 45 sec without hesitation than bam shuts down in a puff of white smoke. Should I do what u did in this video?

Take your carb right off and fully clean. Theres two jets to set that's the one on the bottom of the bowl and the other is on the top that's your air jet. Tighten them fully after cleaning and then turn them 1 1/8 turns it will start to run for you. If it starts to die out then turn the bottom jet an 1/8 of a turn at a time untill it runs steady. After it starts to run good throttle it down and set your air jet on top to make it idle nice.

I also add stabilizer in my machines during their “ dormant” stage.......... and bleed the carbs............. so far not a issue.......... leaving gas in bowl is asking for trouble......... proper maintenance and drainage will save a person headaches................👋✌️🇨🇦

I just discovered I also have a leak after a few primes....I noticed few gas drops from the carb but I am not sure what caused it...did you find out what happened to yours? Great video and very helpful.

+Don Boston it leaks because you prime it too many times. 2 or 3 pumps max other then that it will leak

Thanks for the series of videos you havw made for this snow blower. I have seen all of them. So it seems you bought this in mid 2012, and in less than 1 year you are having issues with it? Will you still recommend this to others? I am planning to get one myself. Thanks.

Hat's off to you sir! Thanks for all the good info. I assume you had to remove the cover over carb in order to access the main jet after removing the bottom screw, right?
