118 km/h when many cars are in the ditch might be a reason why many cars are in the ditch.
@volvodashcam5 жыл бұрын
Main reason this day why people were in the ditch was because they still had summer tires on! I had good studded winter tires and had ok grip. Also important not to get in to a crash is to keep your distance. But sure.. Would have been even safer to go a little slower.. Still I did test braking when driving and had ok grip in that lane with my tires.

I might got away from the chaos a bit.. On the main highway through the city (the one I leave at 2:10 the queue was extreme. People got stuck for 10-12 hours and hundreds of cars and trucks got abandoned in the middle of the road.. I am glad I gave up when I did.. I was going in to the city for a meeting but canceled. So only got the milder "chaos"...

Yea.. It´s nice. But it´s a bit annoying that it makes trips that normally takes 20-25 minuts to be 2-3 hours! The worst are those people not having snow tires yet and they still take the car on a day like this. Fucks everything up for everyone else. Also all the trucks that don't have snow tires... getting stuck on every little hill in the whole city.

D LV Yea.. People change to winter tires way to late.. But this stomach was a bit over the ordinary. We had 40cm snow in a short time. It's the most snow in Stockholm in November since they started keeping record in 1905. But it would not have been this bad in traffic had people changed tires in time. 25% was driving with summer tires that day according to a survey done the following week.

Where in the US are you from Mike? (It is US right?) :) I can't understand why people don't use winter tires if living in an area where it can get cold enough for snow or ice.. In the long run it´s not more expensive since you do not have to buy new tires as often, plus that even a small fender bender could be more expensive than a set of tires! ;)

@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
Inget stillastående i allafall.

Well... this swedish guy told me snow came early this year, we (from holland) drove past Stockholm somewhere on november the 2nd and it was already snowing a bit, but when we got more north the snow was very intense, we had to drive through at least 30cm of snow... we didn't had spikes nore winter tires because they are only mandatory from december the 1st. Well...that was a huge mistake to be honest, at some parts we had to drive like 50 km/h instead of 110 km/h on the E4, but driving on these inlandsvagen(or something like that) was nearly impossible for our 4-seasons tires.
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
It was early to get this much in Stockholm this time of year, but we have snow in November every other year. And up north it´s not unusual to get snow even in October.. It's not recommended to go up in Sweden in November without winter tires. :) As you might have noticed.. hehe.. Good that you took it carefully. Even if it´s not illegal to drive with summer tires in November drivers who cause accidents and have summer tires but drives in snow can get a hefty fine for reckless driving.

Hi... No it is not. :) This was the most snow in Stockholm in November since they start keeping records in 1905! :) (about 40cm was measured) But it´s not uncommon with some snow in November. But usually it melts away in a few days/weeks if it snows in November, as it did this time as well. Two weeks after this all snow was gone.. Now we have 4-5cm again.. That seems to melt now as well as we have a few days with warmer weather now.
@lor3dana148 жыл бұрын
Oh, ok. I thought that because you are such high in the nord, there would be a lot of snow in this period.
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
Stockholm is not that high up.. The winter there is pretty gray some years with very little snow... And some years it can be a lot of snow. :) The "middle" of Sweden, geographically speaking, is about 400km north of Stockholm. There the winter is more "consistent" with snow from around November to Mars most of the years. Up in the North of Sweden it can be winter from October to May... Some places in high ground can have snow until midsummer.. :) A long country as I said.. You could swim in the ocean in the south in may/june, hop on a plane and go to the north and go skiing on the same day. ;)

Interesting...you're doing 100 km/h on a snowy road and you're criticising others.
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
Speed limit was 110-120km/h. If you were any used to drive on snow with good winter tires (I got Nokian Hakka 8 studded) you would not react like that. It´s not any special danger to go 100km/h on a road like that. I keep some extra distance and I use to test brake from time to time to know my traction.
@tamasraduly8 жыл бұрын
I've never driven a car with studded tires (it's not allowed in Ontario), I just have regular winter tires. It probably makes a huge difference. I can drive in snow, but I'm rather going much slower in snow than the posted speed limit. About 15 years ago I did a brake test and an avoidance manoeuvre at around 80 km/h on an empty snowy road with with brand new winter tires (it was an old car with no ABS) and the car started going sideways and I had hard time getting it back straight. Since then I'm driving slower on slippery road. I see a lot of people not slowing down and being over confident especially in SUVs and that makes me nervous.
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
Agree that there are many that drive too fast when weather conditions are bad. But too keep 100km/h on a highway with good tires and specially good distance doesn't have to be dangerous. It´s also depending on the snow. If the snow had been more wet and slushy I would have kept the speed down. With slush-snow you risk having almost like aquaplaning. My car also have all the "tech" for a safe ride. ABS, DSCT and traction control. (Still you need to know how to drive.. not only depending on the systems, I know that...) I also have AWD, but that can actually be a bit elusive when driving in slippery conditions. You might think that you have better grip than you have since accelerating is faster. AWD-cars does not stop faster then FWD or RWD-cars.. We all have AWB.. ;) (All wheel brakes)

@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын

Fastnade du själv i trafiken något?

Well, bra video :)
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
@Barflax8 жыл бұрын

@albin43238 жыл бұрын
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын

@Djhg20008 жыл бұрын
+Boodieman72 Then it depends on where you're driving. The streets I previously mentioned bans studded tires, however you still need to use winter approved tires. Most people who live outside those areas tend to prefer studded tires because of how useless the studless tires are on ice.

They don't plow roads because of "gender equal" snow plowing policy. They plow sidewalks instead of roads because women use more sidewalks while men use more roads (because they have to go to work). Isn't it great?
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
No, that was not the issue here. The problem was that the plows did not got through traffic and got stuck on roads because 1 out of 4 drivers thought it was a good idea to take the car without winter tires! According to an investigation I read today 24% of cars had summer tires. It´s impossible to clean a road when there are abandoned cars and trucks all over the road. Over 200 cars where abandoned on E4/Essingeleden on a stretch no more than 7km! (Biggest road through Stockholm)
@Steppenkater8 жыл бұрын
Volvo Dashcam Okay. That are some good points. Well, I were refering to this article: dailycaller.com/2016/11/13/swedens-gender-equal-snow-clearing-approach-ends-in-chaos

+Steppenkater Oh.. Guess that refers to some right wing politicians that tried to win a few publicity points by blaming that. But to be honest that part of the snow cleaning didn't work as well. :D Sidewalks and bike tracks was not plowed either, and a lot of people walked on the streets.. Witch was not as dangerous as it sounds since cars drove slower than a crawling toddler!

@guy_autordie8 жыл бұрын
But you (the swedes) all have snow tires at this time of the year, no?
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
No! That was one of the biggest problem.. People always change to late. And law state that it´s mandatory from December 1th.. (but you can get charged if you cause a crash with summertires during winter weather). My guess was that at least 30-40% of the cars did not have winter/snow tires on yesterday. And most trucks did not... it has been total chaos on the roads with trucks that can't get up for small hills. It has taken the city 36 hours to clean the main highway of abandoned trucks and cars so they can do a proper plowing and salting.

@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
@hejamodo8 жыл бұрын
@volvodashcam8 жыл бұрын
@hejamodo8 жыл бұрын
