I wonder if people understand the complexity of having to use 4 mallets so effortlessly AND change their position to change chords so quickly and seamlessly

And in the hardest grip in my opinion too

No more challanging than playing piano, once the grip is pushed to muscle memory.

@@starskiffjulianit’s funny you say Burton is harder, because as a high school vibes player who started with Burton in 8th grade and hasn’t touched Steven’s until a few months ago, I find Steven’s much harder and uncomfortable
@PianoMan10-413 күн бұрын
Only on vibes though, I love Steven’s on marimba because of how much bigger the instrument and gaps between notes are

Played this piece - and Hall of Mirrors - just recently for a percussion ensemble concert, and playing Insomnia for another one soon. It was, is, and will be a delight to play these pieces. Thank you so much, Cody and Benjamin Holmes, for the wonderful music you’ve written.

never heard a vibraphone solo that tells as much as a story as this one. absolute perfection. Fantastic work

I think it's the harmony being used and the overall feel, but this reminds me so much of a mix between No Surprises and the new version of True Love Waits by radiohead lol, very cool

Love radiohead. Wasn't thinking of these specific tunes when writing this, but I do love those songs.

Oh wow this it so beautiful, someone told me about this vibraphone solo a while back and now that I’m lessening to it I’ve gotta learn it for my next year percussion solo so I can perfect it! It feels so calm and kinda sad at the same time, so many emotions at once. ❤

This is so relaxing to listen to! Also, what kind of mallets are you using? I love how they cut through without being too sharp and I've been looking for a pair like this for a while

Thank you! They are Vic Firth Terry Gibbs Mediums - the light blue ones.

Could anyone tell me which cross grip he's using?
@HolmesPercussion Жыл бұрын
I’m using Burton! Grip doesn’t matter a whole lot. It’s best to use what you are comfortable with IMO. Also can depend on what you are playing.
