I cannot listen to this song without crying. In a good way. I had consciously shut my feelings off during the lockdowns, and I didn’t know how to set them free again after. Numb had become a habit I couldn’t shake. I heard this song somewhere daft - it might have been Grey’s Anatomy (very late to the game on that too!) and I tracked down the song through snippets of remembered lyrics. And here I am, loving that I can cry again at something so moving and beautiful. Snow Patrol, I probably turned my nose up at you, back in the day (I was a metal loving Goth!) but there isn’t enough gratitude in the world to say thank you for this song. And now I’m away to blow my nose ‘cos I’m greetin’ like a big, saft eejit again!

@@anneblackk I think they had 3 absolutely amazing albums in a row. “The Final Straw”, “Eyes Open”, & “A Hundred Million Suns”. Albums u just hit play & pretty much every single track is great. If u haven’t DL them yet do it ASAP. Then they came out with Fallen Empires in 2011. While that album had some really fine tracks like “Called out in the Dark”, “This Isn’t Who u Are”, & “Lifening” but there were a lot of misses. Overall it just didn’t stand up to the previous 3. That’s probably y it took them 7 yrs for “Wildness” to come out. Overall this album doesn’t stand up to the previous 3 I mentioned IMO but this track brought me back to those albums. Just magic. As far as particular songs on this album I’m not a huge fan of “Don’t Give In”, “A Dark Switch”, & “A Youth Written in Fire”. On the flip side I love “Empress” & “Heal”. I had the fortune of finally seeing them live in Atlanta at the Tabernacle about 2 yrs ago. I even got to meet Gary afterwards & have a quick conversation. He just walked outside about 30 minutes after the show to chat with fans like a regular dude. Very special moment & night.

It feels somehow narcissistic to comment on how I relate to a song so deeply personal to the writer but this song found me at a time when I needed it. It became my anthem for a few short minutes when I needed to, to let myself pour out the anger and pain I was feeling from my body. It propelled a release of a deep darkness that even I didn't fully understand. But along with this, were the other poetic and relatable songs that helped me process emotions. It gave them a voice, it allowed me to grieve and to find the beauty in the melancholy of it all. I will be forever grateful to Gary and Snow Patrol and a special person in my life that introduced Wildness to me.
