I have had this stove for many years You MUST have a windshield as the stove is susceptible to even light breeze I use a thin titanium foil shield The heat control is excellent, which makes a very good cooking stove Also the stove head is quite short so it is very well balanced for larger pots When I got it the stove was much less expensive But still worth the money I highly recommend this stove

I’ve used the snowpeak titanium for over 5 years and it’s always had a blue flame when I use it. Sometimes I can’t even tell it’s lit until I have it on high and hear it. It packs nicely in your pot with your fuel. It was worth the price but I think I got it for 40 dollars 5 years ago using the 20 percent off coupon and my dividend at REI.

Thanks for taking on the Stove Guy Role. I have watched your videos, and used them to help in making my decision on which stove/Stoves to purchase. I make sure to let the makers know how my purchase was decided upon. Please keep up the Great job of presenting the facts.

Never in a rush here so i'm an alcohol stove fan These stoves are going become more popular this year i predict due to the pandemic restrictions on travel , people will choose camping more than in previous years Prices will rise due to this i think Best regards Shaun

My Snow Peak LiteMAX I’ve owned for seven years, always has a blue flame and lites completely every time. Fantastic for simmering. I use alcohol and woodburning stoves so having a petzel igniter is no big deal for me. You can buy a hand held MSR Petzel igniter for $10.

Do like seeing the Snow Peak stove. My favorite for summer trips. I have many stoves as well, you have to period... Recently picked up the Soto Windmaster. Do you have one? If not, looking forward to seeing it in your line up Stove Guy. Until next time...Terry

Thanks, Dr. Stove. With all these canister stoves in use, could you conduct an exhaustive review of wind screens? Best would the various designs from DIY, non-manufacturer/model specific (some of us have multiple stoves), to high-end ultralight.

Ernie, men just have to do what men have to do. We can't help it. So I'm behind you 100% in your continued purchases of the various stoves. I can't help myself, either. Perhaps its a disease? I don't know. But it could be worse. What if our addiction was Harley-Davidson motorcycles? On second thought, that wouldn't be so bad, either!

Light eh? You should buy and review the Fire Maple and Olicamp titanium stoves. Their FMS-166t is the same as the Optimus Crux but less than 2oz. They also have the lightest remote canister stove on the market, the Fire Maple Blade 2. 4.5oz, has a generator loop (so it can be used in liquid feed inverted mode) and large pot legs for large pot support. 3oz lighter than the Optimus Vega.

The cost of the two stoves (litemax and pocket rocket) are the same now on Amazon. I personally bought mine on sale many years ago when it first came out. The MSR is far more popular. I also have the Gigapower auto. But I have the MSR whisperlight international. I usually get the best I can and if something costs less but is about the same I go for that.

One thing to note about Titanium is that it gets discoloration from the heat. Once use, the surface will takes on a rainbow burnt mark. Some people care some dont.

I'd be interested in seeing a wind test of these stoves. I have several Snow Peak products and they are premium quality, and with a price to match! I always pack a windshield with a canister stove. That said a stoves inherent wind resistance will improve that sort of set up.
@geraldhenrickson7472
@geraldhenrickson7472 3 жыл бұрын
I have found none that are truly suited for real winds. Always bring your wind shield no matter what the manufacturer says. If nothing else, you can loan it to a friend in need at camp, in exchange for a beer of course.

Being as I don't own anything Snow peak I can't speak to quality or performance, but I do own the amicus and windmaster and on design alone I think they would be hard to beat. Windmaster will hold a blue flame when I think canister is empty. Great vijeo, Hiram was awesome!

The way the burner is set up, I wonder if this would be a better simmer cooking stove than most other “fast boil” stoves? Seems like the flame is let direct to the cooking surface and maybe less susceptible to hot spots? It’s nice to be able to boil quickly but would also be nice to have something you can cook slower with when you’re not in a hurry and don’t want dehydrated meals

Thanks for showing the stove! Regarding weight: that comparison must be combined with efficiency numbers. How many gramms do I save/lose when using one stove vs. the other. The weight of a (mandatory for some stoves) windshield needs to be considered too😁. I love being a nerd! thx for the teaser!

How is the burn efficiency of the LiteMax? Would the weight saving be counteracted by increased fuel use? There's no point saving stove weight if you need to carry more fuel.

What can I use to boil water inside a car safely?
@PaleoHikerMD
@PaleoHikerMD 3 жыл бұрын
There are some stove systems that use a flameless heating element, similar to an MRE flameless ration heater, that would be safe.
@jheighten7568

Hello thanks for the advice. I checked one out very cool system but I’ll have to pass as in the long run it will cost me as much as staying bucks just to boil water. With this little system I will have to buy heating packs and I’m planning to do this every day I’ll go broke. So I’m thinking if what i need is only to boil water I could crack open all of my windows for the carbon monoxide to escape and use one of those canisters stove inside my car.
