In fact, the lid is a "heavy" slab of titanium, NOT aluminum. I've been using mine for almost 15 years, and like it a lot. I think of it as a superlight weight replacement for the GI canteen cup. I cook watery stuff in mine, but don't fry in it. Rice can be made in it, if you place a cut off tin can lid under it as a heat diffuser. Your stove will then have to have a good simmer, though.

Dan, great videos! I love my SnowPeak 700 pot, but I don't use the lid (it is thicker titanium according to Snow Peak, as has been pointed out). Instead, I use the lid from an MSR Windburner- it fits great, and I can use my primus eta French press with it (the Jetboil Flash lids also fit, but they seem to leak around the edges when drinking out of it). I also carry a piece of aluminum foil to use when I am cooking over a fire. I have no problem cooking directly in the pot.

I bent the tab on the lid down, so it is out of the way, and it holds the lib on the pot until i need to take it off. It works very well. Oh, and I keep a cotton bandanna with the pot to make sure I dont burn myself.

LOL you're funny 😂😂😂 thanks for the honest review!!! I have actually given up on titanium pots. Now I have a 1 liter aluminum pot that weights 8 oz... Is just a little heavier but is great for my daughter and I. However I hear good things about the evernew pot 🤗🤗🤗🤗

I use Evernew ECA416, DX2, nonstick. They are multipurposez amazing. But, the coating is not a true ceramic coating, because ceramic coating won't scratched so easily. My evernew pot was scratched by somebody else whose cleaning the dishes. Titanium consumes more fuel than aluminium. For mug, I pick the titanium, that's Vargo BOT700. Because it cools down quickly, making me able to drink from it quicker. Also I use hotlips addon made of silicone. For pot and pan, I pick aluminium hard anodized, that is Bulin BL 101. For serious frying pan, I pick stainless steel hardened, can be easily seasoned to be nonstick, and also tough to scratch, inexpensive, but also consume more fuel than aluminium, and heavier than aluminium or titanium.

evernew ti pots are nice but keep in mind they are made out of paper-thin titanium and are easy to damage if you're not careful with them. i've seen at least 2 that had pinhole leaks in them from accidentally dropping them onto sharp rocks.

I have one and somehow the handles are the most comfortable of them all. I'm surprised you didn't figure out you can just flip the lid and - voila you have no sticking sharp edges and you have some (admittedly not much) extra volume. You just need to shove the whole thing in a mesh bag. But you'd have to do that anyway as the lid wouldn't stay put no matter what. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I felt the same way about the lid. I got a titanium replacement from Four Dogs Stoves that I LOVE and I felt better not giving Snow Peak more money for a new lid they should have gotten right the first time. I think insulated handles can be helpful but they often burn off if you are using your pot over a stove. I had the Evernew Pasta pot and the insulation melted off at the bottom of the handles. Plus, the Evernew pots are thinner, a little too thin for my liking compared to the Snow Peak. And I hated the lid on the pasta pot even more than the one on the trek series Snow Peak. I feel the Snow Peak with the four dogs lid is a PERFECT solo pot for a 1-2 person cook kit.

I was going to leave a comment about the insulated part, but you already did. I like all metal because insulation, while it handles heat, does a lousy job with flame.

this pot was designed in japan for the japanese domestic market, that's why it has design quirks arrogant americans don't understand. one of the most common meals in japan is soba noodles which are quick and easy to cook, you boil the noodles in water then drain them, then serve them with a sauce, typically a cold sauce. that's why the lid is designed the way it is, it's designed to stay on the pot securely with your thumb holding the lid on while you drain the noodles with one hand. it is not designed to be used as a covered drinking mug, the hole in the lid is a drain hole not a drinking hole.

I’ve had this titanium pot for at least 10 years and love the thing. Be sure to get the hot lips so you don’t burn your lips when drinking. I would definitely buy it again, but the thing is indestructible so there is no need.

Is it possible to drink from it or the other one that you recommend? I would imagine that it would be quite hot to have coffee from it. Maybe some silicone thing on the top edge? Any ideas? Thank you

I drink tea from it all the time, but of course you'll have to let it cool down a bit first. There's a company that makes silicone that you put on the top of the pot to keep your lips from getting burnt, but I'm blanking on the name.

I am planning on buying one and eating as well as drinking (coffee, tea) from it. Do you taste the meals when drinking tea? I guess you will taste your previous meal however it is still better than carrying separate mug for beverages only.

‘Hot lips’ are what you need

I was curious so I emailed Snow Peak. The official response I got regarding the Trek 700 was that the pot is all titanium. However, (and I'm quoting word-for-word here) _"Portions of the Trek 700 lid will be Stainless Steel."_ Unfortunately Snow Peak's Customer Service rep. didn't go into any details regarding which portions or just how much of the lid is Stainless Steel. But thankfully, *no* aluminum in the lid. Honestly, if I paid for Ti but the lid was aluminum; I'd be really upset! There's a reason why I'm willing to pay more for titanium over aluminum, even though both are light-weight options. Jury is still out on the health risks of using aluminum cook gear and developing Alzheimer's. Especially using it on a regular basis. Still, why take the chance at all? A portion of the lid being S.S., I'm less upset. But not entirely happy. You buy a cook pot with a lid and the thing is marketed as being titanium, you expect the pot and lid to be titanium. Plus, Snow Peak makes an all-titanium lid for the Trek 700 anyway. I don't understand that! Just increase the price a bit, and include THAT lid with the Trek 700. Though that might be a bit of an issue as you can get a Toaks 750ml pot with all-Ti lid for around $35.oo instead of around $45.oo for the Snow Peak Trek 700 with their standard lid. And you don't have a sharp lid to deal with, plus you get a much better stuff sack with the Toaks! I guess if that extra 50ml is too much, and getting the Toaks 650ml pot and lid is not quite enough; then maybe paying extra for the Snow Peak Trek 700 makes sense to some. Or maybe if someone *really* loves the one-handed operating feature of that Trek 700 strainer lid.

The lid is titanium, they just made it thick so it would now blow off. I still don't like the lid, I don't care for the little clips that grab on, I like a regular lid you just lift off. Also, I have titanium mainly for weight saving, so it seems silly to make the lid heavy. Titainum does not have any of the health issues aluminum has, second reason I use it.. I got an aftermarket lid that I now have that I love. The pot itself I love. It's one of the few that have no ridge on the bottom of the pot. I cook and eat and clean the pot. Half the pots are poorly designed with some kind of ridge (not flat) on the bottom that likes to catch food and is a pain to clean.

So I've learned! Yeah, I always assumed it was aluminum from it's weight and sheen, but I guess not. I totally agree that it's silly to make the lid heavy, and I'm also not a big fan of the clips. I've almost spilled the pot one too many times from them catching as I try to lift off the lid. What aftermarket lid did you get?

Thanks! I think Toaks makes a 650ml version that checks off a lot of boxes for me. No sharp pieces, still lightweight, and even cheaper than the Snow Peak.

Yep, sorry about that. Whoops! Although I will say that I still don't like how they made the lid so thick and heavy. Others commented it's so the lid won't blow away in high wind, but I feel that's what a rock is for! 😁
