Love your channel and all your educational videos please keep them coming I am in the same type of habitat and country as you boys. Very rocky lotsa cedars. We are doing hack n squirt and tsi with food plots witch perscribed fire. We planted fall release from green cover last fall in a new food plot. Do you reccomend frost seeding clover for spring or wait till summer for the summer release blend? Im nervous to plant spring and then have to use herbicide to get our summer or fall release planted. Please advise, thank you Grant and Daniel

We will plant the Summer Release into the mature Fall Release blend this spring. We use a no-till drill so this is easy!

Doug - If the clover stand is thick and lush, it will be best to terminate it before planting another crop.

When you plant the summer blend do you crimp the summer blend after you drill the fall blend in or do you just let it die naturally??

Clifford - I normally crimp the fall blend during the late spring after I drill the summer blend. I rarely crimp the summer blend after drilling the fall blend.

I understand this is a new food plot, but would your clover seeds require inoculation if you were seeding a plot well established with the release process?

Inoculation is inexpensive (compare to other aspects of plots) so I always plant inoculated seed. Clover from Green Cover is pre inoculated!

Is this method recommended to do in a big 2-3 acre field that had the fall release in it last season? Just snow seed or frost seed clover and wait until time to plant fall release again? Or is it better to wait and plant summer release and then fall release again? Lastly, if we snow/frost seed clover, will we need to use herbicide prior to planting fall release?

Planting the Summer Release (or if there are a lot of deer in the area the Summer Browse Pressure Release) will produce more tons of forage and suppress weeds better.

Some folks plow under clover to get the nitrogen quicker I presume. After you terminate the clover in this plot, how long does it take for the nitrogen and nutrients from the clover to be released into the soil?

That's called green fertilizer and was used primarily before no-till drills. Drills allow the seed to be placed in the soil without exposing the soil which is a huge factor in improving soil health!

Both will work in the "middle" portion of the USA but I'd recommend the northern blend for you.

Winter conditions will likely last a while more at your location. I'd wait until you think one of the last snow's or frosts will occur and then spread the seed.

I've always read when frost/snow seeding you use twice as much seed. It looked like you didn't put seed on very heavy even with going both directions on plot?

It's a small plot and we often put about 1.5 to 2x the recommend amount for normal planting when using the snow or frost seeding methods.

Turkeys rarely bother clover seeds as they very small and almost never when the seeds are spread in snow.

@@GrowingDeerTV turkeys attack it to about 7 or 8 inches. seed lightly 50 lbs a acre. Provides protection to clover and keeps soil cooler. Give it a try.

You must not have as many birds as I do. I have to wait till the snow melts otherwise I would be further off just putting it in a bird feeder.
