Thanks for an excellent video. So different from what's out there, photography was brilliant as well as the video. Haha, It wasn’t as bad as it looked. We got the fire cranking early on the Saturday night and it was pretty toasty warm in the hut. My shoes and socks got wet so I was trying to dry them. I was saving my spare socks for bed. Ended up burning a hole in my socks, little to close to the fire 🫡 I could definitely handle a 4 pack a week! Sign me up 😂

Hey Tim - Daniel here from Pocket's Hut earlier in the year. Love the video - Abi and I did a similar trip a few weeks back also camping at Horse Camp Hut. Snow camping is very daunting but so rewarding! Doing it once has certainly made me keen for more, next stop a multiday trip to Valentine's I think!

Hey mate, great minds think alike, I don’t think I’ll have an opportunity this winter but I’m definitely going to plan a multi day trip for next year. I’m so keen to see Valentine Hut in the snow and I want to get Sarah out there too. So nice camping in the snow! I don’t want winter to end 😂 I’m already drooling over a nice photo of the red hut in the snow. Can’t Wait!

Cheers mate! Bike or no bike, my obsession with Kosciusko is constantly growing. I just love it down there. This was my first time camping in “proper snow” (we’ve had a little on some rides) and now I know I can survive on one of Australia’s colder nights it’s got me keen for more. Since this trip I’ve watched a few videos of people camping up higher in the mountains and it looks so nice. Doubt I’ll be back in the snow this year but I’ll definitely be back down there on the bike at some point. Thanks for watching 👍

Great one Tim. There is a KZbin channel called outdoor boys. They make ice-cream with snow like that. They also put some vanilla essence in.

The guys that gave me the left over condensed milk and told me about it mentioned they saw it on a KZbin channel. This must be the one. I'll have to have a look for it. This is the first I've heard of the vanilla essence, I think it needed it! 😂

That white stuff was cold whatever it was 😂 Yeah that was Josh from a few riding vid’s, loving the cold weather in his jeans and sleeping in a highly inadequate sleeping bag. 😳 he took an extra blanket and survived so all good. I’m loving that you do these long rides. I think I want to do a long one. Congrats on the one sub 😜 🍻

Hi Melissa, Thanks for the kind words. This was my first time camping in the snow and it was so much fun, I can't wait to do it again next year. I'm not too experienced with gear, I tend to use whatever I have and just get out as much as I can. Slowly I'm investing in better gear gear but 1 thing at a time. Here is what I used. The tent I'm using is the ALPS Mountaineering Tasmanian 2 tent. It's been a solid tent but its heavy. It was the cheapest 4 season tent I could find. Early 2020 I paid $240 new from amazon. I think if I had my time again I'd pay a bit more and get something lighter. I recently upgraded my sleeping bag specifically to do some colder trips. I got the Sea to Summit Ascent 3. Comfort rating of -11 deg. Its nice and warm but definitely can't move around in it as well as my big old bag. Sleeping mat was a Mountain Designs Airlite 5.5 insulated. This with a cheap foam roll to insulate me from the snow worked perfect. I wasn't cold underneath me at all. It worked so good. My pillow was a Sea to Summit Aeros. Apart from that I just wore thermals and a down jacket to bed. During the day I wore my cheap Aldi snow boots, some Craghopper waterproof trousers, and any jacket really. We hired snow shoes from Jindabyne. The cameras were a Canon R6 and a GoPro 8 in case that's the gear you were asking about 😂 Hope that helps. Cheers Tim

Well he does have it in his possession at the moment but I couldn't really fit it in. I was overflowing as it was. Flying drones in Kosciuszko is a bit of a no go as well. I'm very hesitant using it down there. Very tempting though.

Winter went so fast, I had plans to do a lot of trips while the snakes were asleep and life has just got in the way. It was such a fun trip in the snow. You will have to try it next year. As for rides, I plan to do a heap in the mountains this spring / summer / autumn, lets see how many times I actually get down there. See you on the trails ✌
