From my American eyes, this is a massive British locomotive. With a few minor modifications, it could almost be a North American steam engine. I'm in Southern New England, and we still don't have any snow. Happy Holidays.

I think the 9F was the largest class of locomotive used on British railways. Designed as a heavy freight engine it's always been my favourite type.

Very beautiful footages in a winter wonder world 😊. The only disturbing thing is the pushing " tractor ", sounding like a rabbit fart😅

LOL! Was the diesel actually doing much work, though? The 9F seemed to be coping well, as such a big engine should.

Sitting at home in Melbourne, Australia with a cloudless sky, although not hot weather just pleasant, it's hard to imagine snow. But well done: I have previously enjoyed many sunny winter days in Europe, though not so much in England, much as I love the UK. 13:11 especially excellent videography. NYMR is a great railway that I did a decade ago. Keep up the good work, Piglet and others.

Impressive engine! Questions: How does the coal get into the firebox? Sroker?? What is the diesel used for here?

The trains on the NYMR use a fireman to shovel the coal into the firebox. The diesel is used on the rear of the train as the Santa trains stop mid section, so the steam loco can't run round the train to pull it back to the station. The Santa trains starts at Grosmont stationand pass through Goathland station and then head into Northdale which is in the middle of nowhere but is very picturesque. The train stops in Northdale for 10 minute. The section token is moved from the steam loco to the diesel loco for the return trip back to Grosmont station. There is another Santa train at the other of the line that runs from Pickering station to Levisham station. As the steam loco can round the train at Levisham, a diesel is not required for that Santa train.

The diesel is used to pull tje train from the other end. There is no time to turn the steam locomotive around.

Am I correct in thinking this is the only 9F still running? At least steam hauled trains were never cancelled due to leaves on the line.

9F and Eric are still running the Santa's with Lucie providing Pickering steam heat duties. The mid week diner has been Eric.

92214 is at the excellent Great Central Railway at Loughborough, a 'must visit' that has a double track main line that is certified for up to 100kmh (60 mph) and part IIRC 115kmh (70mph).
