The part about "the final battle will begin" was referring to a basic "final battle" between the forces of good and evil. As fate would have it, the evil that everyone ended up uniting against prior to the first major timeskip was Rumple's own papa.

Rumple said "...And the final battle will begin!". I don't understand what kind of 'final battle' they will prepared after the curse is broken in season finale. My guts tellin' me that someone much more evil than Rumple himself, Regina, Cora, Maleficent, & other villains... are about to threaten to destroy them all. It's just my theory only, dont know if it's true or not.

Regina didn't create the curse. the black fairy did before she was torn away from rumple when he was only days old. she wanted to send away the evil that was meant to kill him not knowing it was her.

If he was the dark one couldn't he just poof out of there, that is assuming he could even be caught in the first place. I love this show but i feel like the writers just write as it goes on and they don't change anything they wrote prior

Rumple is always 100 steps ahead of everybody else. I think he figured why run around and let people know he always has the upper hand when he could just deal with the discomfort for a little while until the curse is enacted and he's in his good life the queen promised him. The one thing Rumple is good at is subtlety. He's always in control and he doesn't feel the need to flaunt that, I think he rather enjoys watching everyone find out who really is holding the reigns :P

I think it was later revealed that he had squid ink in that cell that he could have used to escape, but instead used it to write Emma's name over and over obsessively. He was exactly where he wanted to be.
