Rachel Zegler is Snow White in Disney latest live action adaptation of the classic Snow White animation. But recent interviews at the Disney Exp D23 alongside other promotion for Snow White keep causing trouble for Rachel Zegler. At a time where both the WGA writers are striking alongside the SAG-AFTRA actors, this press for Snow White by Rachel Zegler is the last thing they need. Is Snow White worth watching?

I can't even imagine how many passionate actresses have dreamed of playing such an iconic Disney role their entire lives, only to have it stolen by some arrogant hack who doesn't even respect the source material. Must be infuriating. She is everything wrong with modern Disney in a nutshell.

At least Halle Bailey, when it came to playing Ariel in The Little Mermaid's remake, had the decency to be gracious about the role that she got. I liked how much she sounded like Jodi Benson's original Ariel voice in spite of being a different skin color, and I assume she respects the source material much better than Zegler does, because she never got to have any bad publicity for bluntly telling us everything she does not like about The Little Mermaid, the animated film from 1989.

Being a trained actor, I learned very early on that unless you are very, very lucky, it rarely pays the bills. It becomes more a labour of love than a job. Actors who actually go on to "make it" with regular, well paid work are in a very privileged position and most, especially actors here in the UK, are humble enough to recognise this. It, therefore, really annoys me when you see actors become so self-important they start to believe that they are bigger than the industry that employs them. OK, so being an actor can, indeed, be extremely hard work if you want to be the best that you can be. However, never, ever are you better than anyone else that grafts for a living. The only difference being is you might be lucky enough to be living with your dream job. As for me, I didn't last long at all. Even though I loved the whole acting experience I decided I liked my home comforts too much and joined the regular workforce, with regular hours and a regular wage.😁

The whole moral of the original story was about the superficialness of outward beauty and how a good personality could be more beautiful. They change everything about the original story until it becomes meaningless bilge. The biggest mistake they made was striking right after they released a ton of terrible content. The public doesn't support them because they feel like they have been doing a bad job. It has absolutely nothing about the audience? Rachel Zegler is one of the few stupid feminazi activists, but the shows are bad because of the producers, not the writers, the producers hire unproduced, political writers (she-hulk, Secret Invasion, Captain Marvel etc). It's not the actors or writers, you do realise that the writers aren't on strike (or even the actors) because they are getting 400,000 for marvel shows but actually want 1million, its young writers not being put in writers rooms, but putting them in a *NEW* hollywood / tv show method of exploiting young inexperienced writers and putting them in smaller forms of writers rooms for big projects and underpaying them because they don't hold the position of being in a writers room. Do your research, actors are also just striking because younger and new actors in smaller shows and even tentpole productions are being underpaid and threatened to get replaced with CGI (AI for writers and artists). You should be supporting a strike that aren't stirking like StopOil, but only stirking against the producers and blocking sets rather than highways. @@Onyx-_-liquor

Who the hell do you think it is making the bad decisions? Writers write what they're told to by execs, and rarely if ever get to make many if any of their own decisions. Even the writers themselves are chosen by who will align with what the execs want, so if Hollywood is filled with shitty writers these days the blame is on who selected them to be hired in the first place and who keeps them on staff --not despite how shitty they are, but because they align with the shitty execs who run things according to their shitty vision.

I think what's "weird" is her interpretation of Snow White. She wasn't stalked and the story wasn't about romance; it was about survival. The prince just happened to be a bonus for her. Like a gift for her dying and coming back. Even the original tale where she was killed three times isn't about love and the prince only shows up after the third time when she's in a glass coffin. She gets saved by the huntsman, saved by the dwarves (twice) and saved by the prince, because her purity cannot see the bad in people even when she shouldn't be trusting of anyone. Now, I don't care for Disney's Snow White, because it doesn't really portray that well, but I certainly don't like someone misinterpreting it so blatantly, either. SW happened to fall in love at first sight with the prince upon waking up. It's not "weird", it was considered romantic back then. It's still considered romantic, even if a little far-fetched. First and foremost, though, Zegler's ignorance of the theme of purity and survival and how being a good person will save you in the end is beyond telling of her and Disney and how blind they've become. I hate this chit. She's not a good person. She's an entitled idiot with a narcissistic streak the size of the rift that separates her eyes. I can't wait for this to sink and her to fail. THAT will be a movie. BTW, Desparu, I love you, I love your vids and commentary and voice, but you really need to go to the dentist. The writers strike is peculiar to me, a lot of the stuff we’ve gotten has been absolute crap, mostly Disney ( She-hulk, willow, secret invasion, ant-man,). Is it because the writers arent being properly accommodated so their work suffers? Or is it because the writers are just terrible? On Snow White, i love the original animated movie so much, been watching it over and over after hearing the bullshit that is the live action. The animation is gorgeous and the story is cute and romantic, i love it! Its a story from hundreds of years ago that has been told over and over again, why change it? They changed the Princess and the Frog in a fantastic way and created an awesome story with it. Same with Tangled. This is not snow white, its Latina teen and the 7 random peoples. Im Latina, i don’t need representation, SNOW WHITE IS GERMAN.

This award was unique, consisting of one normal-sized, plus seven miniature Oscar statuettes. They were presented to Disney by Shirley Temple. So I remember seeing somewhere of her or someone saying consent is required for the prince to give her a kiss so I have to ask a very important question for Hollywood. When you're in an emergency and need CPR to save your life do I need your consent? I feel like it's difficult to give consent when you're choking to death or unconscious but you know if consent is so hugely important to you then well I guess I have no choice but to sit back. Sounds beyond stupid right? This is the best real life example for what happens between Snow white and the prince kissing her. Yes I am aware that it's different in the original fairy tale but we're talking Disney version here. I don't think anyone on the planet is saying that consent is wrong or not required for at least 99% of situations but for the hypothetical scenario in Snow White I would argue consent isn't required. If I or you were poisoned by an apple and to save my/your life you have to gimme a kiss on the lips. I don't know about you but I ain't going to deny you or scream at you for that. One of the reasons I love Korean entertainment is that Korean celebrities, actors, singers etc are humble. Humility is the prime commandment of Confucian thought which is deeply embedded in Korean society. It's easy to see it in action if you follow doings in the Korean entertainment industry. Anyone who shows any sign of arrogance, self entitlement, or narcissism is immediately destroyed by their fans. Sincere public apologies and concrete action to atone for their behavior is required to get back the respect of fans. Some things will never be forgiven, like being a bully in high school. Many of the trash infesting Hollywood would have been eliminated long ago if Americans valued that one simple virtue, humility.

They rewrote it to not be about conventional standards of physical beauty. See it's about using the word "fair" in a completely different meaning. Which makes as little sense as it sounds. Why would the "Evil Queen" even care? she's the "Evil" queen... not the "just and exalted queen". The original evil queen was actually gorgeous for her age, she was just a jealous hateful person who couldn't accept that she was getting older and she was not the pinnacle any longer. Modern Disney seems to forget the roots of many movies Disney did, the personal life story of why most characters are motherless or without parents all together: Disney’s mother died suddenly While it is accepted that in time, many sons and daughters will bury their parents - that event can change someone and leave a void that can not be filled. Disney ever occurring loss of a parent is a reminder of his loss - it change him. As such, every character who loses a parent - grows with this void Modern Disney seems to see this as weakness and tries too hard to prove “this girl needs no man…or any kind of weakness”. A character with flaws can grow and will be interesting in a story A perfect character without flaws can never grow and removes any investment from a viewer.

Glad to see you covering this, Disparu. I was hoping you would! It's surprising just how many silly things she's managed to say, even months ago. You would've thought or hoped she'd have some sense, unless Gerwig, Webb and co want her to say this kind of thing.

The way people talk about the original Snow White movie is so opposite from what I experienced with the film as a child. Even when I was 4-5, I never thought “so this is what girls are supposed to be like.” I thought that Snow White was a good movie for boys and girls. Obviously when you get older you believe the “boy movies” and “girl movies” mentality in elementary/Jr high, but I never looked down on Snow Whites character. She was the protagonist, and I supported the character because of that.🤷‍♂️

Dear sir, you said something so wise and insightful in this video that I had to write it down. If the rest of Hollywood and large conglomerates (heck, even governments) could learn that simple nugget of truth, what a difference it would make. "It's built into the job, a recognition that they are the people that made you. They are the only reason you're even there in the first place. And they allow you to be there at their whim." That's pure gold, my friend. You just got another subscriber. Keep up the good work.

Correction: Snowwhite was indeed WRITTEN DOWN in 1812. However, almost all of the brothers Grimm’s stories are just (almost) unaltered versions of folktales that went around. For all we know the original version of the story was a Germanic myth or legend. It probably isn’t that old, but I’d expect it to be 300 years old by now. I do have to play the advocate of the devil though. These kinds of folk tales weren’t made to be set in stone. They were just things people told to their children and changed over time. It’s only because they were written down by the brothers Grimm that they became “THE” story, and then only changed again when Disney made their original movie a century later. The “original” story though was free to alter at will. You could argue that the Grimms’ version became culturally significant in its own right, but I don’t know if this movie could be seen as altering the Grimms’ version, since that already wasn’t the original. They can make their own interpretation. They’re not works by any one author. You can do what you want with them. It just bothers me that what they want is total bullshit.

@@coconutcoreIf I remember the first stories of Snow white came about in the early 16th century. Theories abound that it might have been inspired by a real woman, so Snow White is probably as old as Shakespeare's work. Different renditions do exist, but the messages are timeless from each one. The current one like all of their "MOdern Audience" stories is "WOMEN POWER!!!" Which is timeless as well, in a much more destructive and evil way.

I would argue that seeing as Snow White essentially made Disney that it has its own significance separate from the Grimms fairytale. And that specific version is the one that’s been targeted for change, not the Grimms version of previous folktale versions. And that version which has been in the modern zeitgeist been targeted for change is the problem.
@coconutcore

@@SansoHumar Yeah…I do that sometimes. I just tried to clear it up a little, but I might have made it worse. For all the Patricks out there: There’s no “original Snowwhite”. I hate to defend such a terrible choice, but historically the folk tales that we now call the brothers Grimms’ fairytales weren’t set in stone or meant to be set in stone. It’s not The Lord of the Rings, it’s a fairytale. You’re allowed to tell your own versions, even when you’re Disney. HOWEVER! Their story sucks. It’s clear even before it’s out. Their morals are twisted as well. All around, it’s a terrible use of such a beloved story.

I think the biggest controversies over the live-action remakes is that they are NOT remakes. I personally loved the Beauty & the Beast live-action version. I was looking forward to seeing all my childhood favorite Disney princess movies performed by real people. I wanted to see that in reality. But these aren't REMAKES. There are already hundreds of adaptations of these movies. In books and in movies, in cartoons and in live-action. Disney doesn't OWN the tales themselves, just the version that they've created. Snow White is a Grimm's Brother tale, and there are many different versions out there. If some producer wanted to make a "woke" Snow White, people would make fun, revel, and move on. But DISNEY producing an adaptation of their own movie is just...why would you do that? Why take a beloved version and make it different? My generation was looking to relive their nostalgia with a real version of their childhood favorites, but instead, they've made a mockery of them. If I wanted to see an alt Snow White, I'd go watch Snow White and the Huntsman.

Snow white represents selflessness, kindness, friendship and her true beauty from with in. She befriends nature, the forest creature and latter the dwarfs. The Queen represents vanity, selfishness and envy, Her true inner ugliness is manifested by her transformation into the old women (her true self) and is latter defeated by the dwarfs, animals and nature because of their friendship and love for her. At the well Snow white tells the doves (The viewer) that the well is a whishing well and she makes a wish for her true love "I'm wishing for the one I love, to find me today" and magically her true love appears at that moment. When they both sing their songs they are showing each other their inner beauty through song. and share a kiss through the proxy of nature by the dove. Rachel Zegler comment about prince charming stalking snow white is totally lost on her, Nor is It about power and being a leader, its about kindness and the value of friendship. And prince charming is the manifestation of her "true love" wish. Its a fairy tell, meant to be simple to understand but Rachels inner self has turned it into something ugly, like the Evil Queen.

Why stop there ?- AI is at such a level now actors can be completely replaced. And given the utter garbage the writers have been putting out for the past few years I’m sure a ChatGPT script could generate something on a par. I’d wager the studio execs would be happy not having to pay multimillion dollar salaries and royalties to AI generated characters

@@urbanjungle9600 I can see this in the not too far future with very good computer generated text-to-speech, starting to replace voice actors, and using only a single skilled voiceactor to give the right situational intonation, and then the computer generating the voice for it. (mapping the voice). Full video generation is probably also at that quality level in a couple of years.

You do realise that it is the producers and the industry ruining the movies and shows? The producers are the ones that hire the directors and writers, review the scripts, give them notes on what to change and green light the production to be made, then promoted? This is a major aspect of why the guild exists so that each different sector are treated as they should be. It's not the writers that are underpaid and the only shot they have is someone handing them notes to make the project more cringe and WOKE?

They change everything about the original story until it becomes meaningless bilge. They are doing the same by "sensetivity editing" books like from Roald Dahl etc, where they not only change individual words but the wording and meaning of entire paragraphs. They are deleting history and replacing it with their own agenda, it's as bad as book burning.
