Snowball (TM) and Stevie Nicks

Snowball (TM) is a medium sulphur crested eleanora cockatoo. He is 11 years old and is a sanctuary bird at Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc. which is a 501c3 not for profit parrot rescue and sanctuary located in northwest Indiana.

@bigbadbigfoot Although Snowball enjoys dancing "with a partner (me)", he does his best dancing when there are at least a few people watching him. He will pause once in a while to see who is watching and once he realizes that he still has everyone's attention, he will dance even more enthusiastically. Thank you so much for writing! Cockatoos are the most difficult birds to keep happy in captivity. Parrots in general should never have been taken from their natural habitat, but we can't put the genie back in the bottle. So we have to do what we can to make life as pleasant as possible for them. @Pmagg5 That's a blue and gold macaw in the background. He came to us frightened to death of people (we have no idea what happened to him in the past to make him so frightened of humans). He became used to those of us that he saw on a daily basis, but whenever a new face came in...hysterical screaming all over again. Many birds spontaneously begin dancing (bobbing their heads, swaying to music, etc). No one taught Snowball how to dance. It would be interesting to see if any wild cockatoos in Australia would spontaneously begin bobbing or dancing if a boom box was continually played outside. We had to throw away the cage that the macaw came with because it was so filthy and corroded. Someone kindly donated the cage he was in as a temporary home until a new one could be purchased for him. @EmiouForever Cockatiels are very easy to take care of, cockatoos are not easy. They are extremely loud and can scream incessantly until they are hoarse, take a break, and then continue screaming again. They also are very destructive to furniture...they are like giant termites with feathers (no exaggeration). They also can become very moody, temperamental, and aggressive (bite hard) as they go through adolescence and reach adulthood. Irena Schulz
