Hey Dony, I noticed in this vid that this machine moves too slow in reverse and too fast in low gear, can you do a friction wheel alignment vid?

I have the Craftsman, 30 inch, two-stage machine and I'm in the process of replacing both belts, cleaning everything and greasing up the drive system. Had I NOT watched this awesome video, I would have never even though about dropping that belly pan for easier access to the pulley and belts. I'm going to replace that torsion spring on the auger pulley. Picked one up on Ebay for 8 bucks. This ONE video has shown me MORE about the dynamics involved with the belt replacement as well as the machine's need for proper lube and adjustments than any other vid posted thus far! Thank you for taking the time to show us how it's done!

Don, these days there is much talk about quality. We have quality people, quality time, quality lifestyle even quality instruction and help aids. As a famous judge once said, "Don't ask me to define quality. I know it when I see it." And see it I did, in your belt changing KZbin clip. It is outstanding! As a retired university prof having very poor almost nil mechanical skills, your clip save me hours of time, money and best of all frustration. Your fix and repair clips are outstanding ... absolutely outstanding. Thank you ever so much. Roger Crane, Mallory Beach, South Bruce Peninsula, (Wiarton), Ontario

Hey man, your video Saved Me A Bundle. My MTD blower tried to swallow a collapsable lawnchair that had tipped over and was hidden under the snow. Getting the chair out of the auger was a bitch, but nothing went around when I fired up the engine and pulled the auger handle back. Thanks to your video I investigated and found the auger belt had just slipped off the big pulley. And you're right, getting it back on from above is about impossible because of the little guide toward the bottom of the big pulley. I got this snowblower for free from an older friend who found using the machine to be difficult for him, and I really didn't want to spend a bundle getting it repaired. Thanks a million, or least a couple hundred. Dave in Bend Oregon

Thanks....it couldn't be any easier to do, the way you explain it. Thanks for showing us the parts numbers. Great video. I like the way you talk to us. In a normal voice. In a lot of videos, the person is yelling at us. They don't use their everyday voice. Again thanks.

I'm so glad I watched your video. Half way through changing the belts on my snowblower in the freezing Western New York weather (they never break in the summer, do they), I thought "I better make sure I'm doing this right." I set down the blow torch and and sledge hammer and came inside. Seriously though, I was just about to remove the entire front end. Thanks again!

Excellent video. I did the job yesterday & did the cleanup this morning. This video helped a lot. Blower seems to run fine (though as yet I have no snow to test it on). One trick I discovered on my MTD-made Craftsman blower may not work for all models: the pulley comes apart & goes back together again easily, which makes belt removal & reinstallation easier. Thanks again for this video -- my owner's manual says drive belt replacement is too difficult for owners and says an authorized shop should do it. But it really WASN'T such a big deal.

Dony, @ 6:22 when you are pulling on the idler pulley, I found it much easier to slip a plastic tie around the pulley and pull on the tie instead of the pulley. It frees up much more room to maneuver the belt into place. If you use two that are interlocked into a figure eight, that works even better with even greater room and leverage.

Thanks Dony. I have the same type, but a different brand [Chicago Machinery]. Several years back my snowblower chewed up it's auger belt. I went to replace all the belts [it has 2 auger belts] but they were worn so bad that the belt numbers were no longer visible. It took several hours and two tries to get the correct fitting belts. As they stretched so that their used length wasn't the same as the new length. The point is, if you spend 5 minutes to take off the cover and write down the numbers of ALL your belts [magic marker], it could possibly save you a lot of time when they do break.

When you say the part numbers for particular belts or other parts you should also mention the model number of the snowblower or whatever you are working on because as you obviously know not every part will for every snowblower or other equipment but some people who are doing something like this for the first time and using this video to know how to do it they might think that the part is universal for e everything when it might not be. If I don't personally have a video of something I like to recommend a few other people yourself included for a few things once in awhile so I just figured I'd I'd mention this as some friendly advice. Anyways thanks for the great video again I just thought I'd give a little friendly advice on that one thing. Thanks again and have a great day. 🙂👍✌

Thanks Don, good video. And also the auger belt one. 👍🏻 I haven't used my Yardman (The model is 31AY95KV643.) snowblower much over the years but after 10+ years it has all the symptoms of slipping belts. It doesn't want to go very easily, often needs a push if there is any irregularity on the ground. When its moving it goes ok though. Also the auger is blocked very easily in any kind of snow. Today I even smelled the belt while trying to use the blower and it was blocked maybe the 30th time today. I saw the impeller trying to move but it couldn't before I dug all the snow out. And when it blows it blows weakly, only couple of meters away. Few years back it was still really strong. The motor runs great, I believe its fine. My problem is that I have difficulty in finding the correct belts for it though. The brand was very briefly sold here and nobody knows what belts are correct for it. Everybody just wants to sell me a new blower instead. And I haven't found a parts list for it yet. Any tips for the correct part numbers or belt specs? Anybody?

I found that the hardest part for me was pulling the tension pulley onton the drive belt. My old Bolens has a spring that's very hard to reach and clip back onto the frame. You need really long needle nose pliers to reach while putting force on the pulley to get enough slack. Almost a 2 person job. Great video though. Thanks. Glad I didn't have to take the front end off.

I have the identical blower. I have replaced both belts and the friction wheel but the drive still will not work. If I lift the tires off the ground the wheels spin when in gear but as soon as the weight of the machine is on the wheels they will not turn. Any advice going forward would be greatly appreciated. Follow up.... so I replaced the drive cable as well and noticed that when engaged the drive belt (new) just slips on the pulley so I'm assuming its the Torsion Spring on the tension pulley. Any video on that procedure? Thanks (Never mind, I figured it out myself. Just bent the spring on the torsion pulley so its tighter. May want to try this before wasting money like I did)

I just acquired a free curbside MTD 26" snowblower discarded by my neighbour. It looked to be in somewhat decent condition. I figured maybe a carb issue that's why he tossed it. Well actually it wasn't even that. It was the primer bulb hose that had rotted out. I spritzed some fuel in the carb and it ran on the first try (electric start). Just have to do a few checks and it should be good to go.
