What i've learned over the years is to dedicate a slow day on the hill (maybe with a new person) and play with width vs angle vs highback angle to really learn what works. Sometimes you find with your fitness level you can adjust your stance.

Thank you Tommie the most helpfull video!! I'm confused with bindings distances because change my beginner 148cm 4x4 Rossi board to channel system 154cm (Burton Custom camber) angle it's easy I like 15 front foot and -6 back foot but every video I watched people talk about angles not about bindings distances and positions and you talk about everything..

I have a Rosignol sashimi direction bored I absolutely love it. Unfortunately here on the East Coast we don’t get enough snow I feel like I’m curious to if you ride on the East too or on the west I feel like on the east I have to ride more +12 to -9 to adapt to the harsh ice over here but thinking about trying a posi posi stance what do you think?

Yes, I mimic you sentiment, life was a complete misery before I have arrived to a stiff camber board. Severe crashes and caught edges on flat, rocker and whatever crap was found in rental shops about 5 years ago before camber boards made a comeback flushing lots of that crap out of the market into the freestyle and freeride niches.

Ill give these width drills a try, thanks! A couple additional variables to consider: snowboard boots will change your ankle mobility, and some bindings have tilted foot pads that would make wider stances more comfortable vs flat ground. So definitely have to feel out your full setup on the hill.

I'm 5 ft 2 and have a 21 inch ( which i determined using a jump test (i think form one of his previous video)) width but may try jumping down a bit just to see if i feel more mobile that way.

Thanks for this tipps, always good to get some insights from others how to find out sertain things, even though I am a Snowboarder since a longtime. I have also been a Vertskater for over 20 years (now I still skate, but don't have the needed power anymore to ride Vertramps). This is why my stance is more like max. a +9 and a -6 or -9. 😊

Angles can also be affected by your personal bone and joint structure. I am slightly toed-in when I walk, so I ride +12, -3 because more separation (example +15, -6) leads to sore knees for me. I think the drills you show for determining stance width should be used for determining stance angles as well; the guiding principle is that snowboarding shouldn't hurt at the end of a long day, other than plain muscle soreness. Additionally, riding posi-posi at some point affects width - 30 years ago I was riding +45, +30 because the board I was learning on was so narrow the toe and heel drag killed me otherwise. My stance was about 17" rather than the 22" I used once I got on a board wide enough for my size 13 feet.

Maybe their hip mobility means they can still rotate a lot? I have poor outwards rotation in the hip, so a narrower angle restricts rotation too much although comfortable when standing upright. Also try squatting with straight feet, kids can do it but most western adults not... Those damn chairs! :-)

I've been snowboarding for 28 years now. Since I was 6 uve ridden camber boards and probably 22 of those years stance gas been 15/-15 and doe the past 2 years I've been on a hybrid rocker board and I hate it. Going back to camber. I feel like I should experiment with my stance after watching this.
@Boom-ou1vb
@Boom-ou1vb 11 ай бұрын
I've been riding the same amount of years and always rode camber. I have a few hybrids now and I like them as well. Comes down to personal preference. Personally I like a long traditional camber for max speed and hard charging. On a resort where I mostly ride groomers and some trees I like a more playful hybrid board with both rocker and camber. I also have a Burton Pow Wrench that's flat with reverse camber at the nose. This one is great for bombing powder and quick decisive turns. It might be because I like to switch up what I'm doing so much but I can also see how you could stick to camber and be ok with doing that.
