I ride with my natural stance and with angles of +30 +12. I don't ever run with a negative back foot any longer as it causes me knee pain. The posi posi stance helps me hard charge on-piste and I never feels it is a compromise in the powder as I prefer to very directional boards with a ton of float in the nose.

A discussion of setback would have been good to throw in here. It's become pretty popular and I even see park boards with a setback, and still not sure why.
@NideckerSnowboards Жыл бұрын
2:39 is that in our system. Centring your stance around the reference puts your weight above the optimum point of the sidecut. For true twin boards, this is the centre, for directional boards there is an inbuilt setback, optimised for each board. Of course you could move the bindings forward or back from this, but that will dramatically alter the turning characteristic of a board.
@boddysurfer9 ай бұрын
Setback for a directional board should be 1" BOC (back of centre). That is measured on the effective edge (the contact points of where your board actually touches the snow) and not the overall length of the board. This is a good starting point that allows easy turn initiation on the tip, and carving instead of skidding at the finish of the turn on the tail. If you have trouble initiating the turn move forward a 1/4", if you're having trouble finishing/skidding the turn move back 1/4". A freestyle board would be 0" to 1/2" BOC, depending on whether you are a park rat or all mountain rider. Every board has a specific side cut radius and you can fine tune your stance to maximize the performance/feel of any board.

Very interesting video- I woul like to add acouple of details. I think the duck stance only makes sense on a twin tip board. Another disadvantage of the duckstance is that you see less going on higher speeds but as it is predominantly used on freestyle oards rather than on carving (directional) boards it shoul not be an big issue. The greatest advantage of the duck stance is surly that it gives you great stability when doing tricks as it is probably the moste natural stance. I personally never tried the duck stance because I am a former hardboot / raceboard rider anjust got used to this stance. Another aspect is certainly the size of your boots- in order to hit the edge your boots an bindings should be aligned with the edge otherwise good carving is impossible. thanks anyways for this information-I am gonna measure the floor to knee thing right away.

Depending on your board. Size. First. Second is your stance. Is measured from center of the board to binding holes. Equal tip. To bindings to width of stand to binding to tail. Should all equal out..like a 17 inch tail and nose to bindings and in-between should also be almost 17. Than you know your board is perfectly balanced out.. Depending on size of board. But is the same set-up. Mounting holes should tell u set back or centered if they are than equal it out. Stand on it before u mount the bindings.

Johnson height is a factor, but weight is much more important as boards do have a "spring" to them. If I went with the next number down (156), the most that board could support to function as it's intended would be 165lbs. I'm well over that. In my case, I'd probably go with an other brand that would be more in my numbers. 156 and 159 are not very far apart. But I'm a firm believer that weight is very important, an overloaded spring will never work as it should

Beginner should ride 14° duck centered 155 156 159 max with a soft freestyle board to ride both directions. Learning u get board to big and wrong angle and width. Will be impossible to ride. No matter how good u are. I ride a 159. 270 pounds size 13 boot. Xl bindings with centered duck 14° normal board. I'm 6.1 don't listen to anyone all depends on personal preference what feels good to you if I listen to the Scientist I should be riding a 163 wide. Is huge. Maybe big mountain. Better be strong as hell to ride that monster. Just saying I've been boarding over 17 seasons now. Brighton UT. And instructor. For 2. Why you rent test and adjust intell it works good 4 u. @tannerk37322 жыл бұрын
This totally depends on the stiffness of the board. At 270lbs a soft board would need to be longer (stiffer) or else you'd fold it. But if you get a stiff deck to begin with then correct sizing becomes possible with a shorter board.
@Rotaks Жыл бұрын
No. Once again you've ignored that FLEXIBILITY (in knees, anckles) is important factor when you choose your stance and angles. The issue, where - many - people can't do a full squad on flat feet (heels go up). So they need to stand wider to make a deeper squat. Also the fact that - many - people don't have the perfect body proportions (e.g. short legs - long torso) - so your "from ground to middle of the knee" will not work. I find that the best way to figure out a proper stance is to use a board with channel mounting system and burton's EST type bindgins. You mount the bindings - loosely (just put the screws but don't "tie" them) so your feet can - slide and rotate naturally. And go down and put your self in position where you do a deep - backside - carve. And let the stance and angles set - naturally (feet should slide outside and rotate freely). So this is your position that let you natuarlly do a deep squat and to achieve your proper postition during backside carve. Now let someone to measure the stance width and check the angles. I don't use burton's equipment. I just went to my friend (who has burton) to check my natural position during low backside turn.
