I had a similar experience. I went off a jump at big bear that I thought was a regular kicker but turned out to be something like a spine? I hit it with a lot of speed because thought that was the right thing to do and it laughed me up so high and made me do a quarter backflip and I landed directly on my back - destroying it lol. I couldn’t walk without pain for a week.
@mattodrums4 жыл бұрын
2 STEPS to consider here. First ride next to the jump to check the structure and type of jump (table top, step up or down) and see the LANDING! Is it consistent or full of ruts? This helps know what to expect. For beginners, just roll over the jump on your 2nd pass to help determine what speed you'll need to actually reach the landing, 3rd pass build more speed. Table jumps tend to require more speed than you think to clear it. Also note conditions, ice? slush?

How do I learn to rde on my non-dominant side? Im confident on my dominant side, but absolutely can’t ride the other way
@marshallgrimmett62905 жыл бұрын
You have to start over just like how you learned the other way, but it goes quicker since you already have experience and what not. So I would start with falling leaf, then progress to s turns. Whenever you are on an easy run, ride switch.

I started out doing those spins (don't know what they're called in English), where you just spin around down the slope. First you spin one way, then the other way, then interchangeably. That makes you more edge-conscious if you know what I mean. After spinning twice or three times down an easy slope I was able to ride on my non-dominant side almost without any falls. You just need to remember that when riding switch your stance should be exactly the same, but the other way round.
@Astronaut8905 жыл бұрын
The exact same way you learned the first time! Start with falling leaf, then do some super slow heelside turns, then some super slow toeside turns, then gradually speed it up. You will probably make all the same mistakes that you did when you were learning to ride regular (I did). Remember to initiate turns with your front foot, keep your weight center/forward, and don't lean back.

Is any special snowboard needed to jump or with a common one is okay?? laik from spain
@joshuaschaffer63715 жыл бұрын
It depends on your skill level and how big your jumps are. Typically an average or lower rider it doesn't matter that much as long as the board isn't a total noodle (really soft flex). But even then if the jump is small that may not matter so much either. If you hit jumps a lot and progress to a point where you need a more jump specific board their are options. But you wouldn't want to spend the money if you aren't taking advantage of the extra features.
@alexramos84995 жыл бұрын
Okay, sounds good. So, with a common snowboard could I achieve a 180 in a jump like 0:14?

just practice, go into steeper terrains practice carving in those areas, being scared is normal, it's just in your head, if you feel you can do it you'll be able to pull it off, practice, practice, just like he said just don't rush things to much, one thing at the time, it takes years of riding to be a really good snowboarder, even pros fall, don't give up

Practice turning and stopping and the speed will come. The more control you have, the more comfortable you will feel when going fast. You can practice by picking up some speed and stopping, do this over and over and you will start going faster and faster. There’s a lot of flat ground tricks and things that will help you better control your board as well. Make sure the edge of your board is tuned!

That's the way I have been practicing and definitely has improved my balance and confidence.

@inmotion_snow5 жыл бұрын
quite challenging, if you see an icy spot sometimes it's best just to ride straight without too much edge contact, otherwise you can easily slip out. Alternatively, there are boards that do quite well on icy patches like the Arbor Westmark which has magna traction (There are other boards too but i don't know the full suite).
