Good to see a honest ‘newbie’ video, showing how realistic a beginner OW riders expectations should be.

Richard Sherwin thanks Richard. Most people either like this video or absolutely hate it. I could’ve practiced and said “hey this is my first time out,” but I chose not to do that. I bought this thing, charged it, wrapped my rails with tape, and went out and filmed this. I don’t ever go back and watch this video because it’s a little embarrassing, but I am happy I kept it honest 🤙🏽

First of all, welcome to the Onewheel NUBEIE Club !... I am a full fledged member myself. You definitely did MUCH better than me on my first attempt. To be fair, I've NEVER done any board sports and I'm old... 62 years old... so I'm just glad to have not killed myself...yet... I've got 19 miles on mine and just starting to feel fairly comfortable on a flat parking lot... Yeah, the first thing I ordered for the board was a fender. I like the magnetic fender from Craft and Ride, easy on and off without having to mess with the screws. Also, get some rail guards as the concrete will be messing up the rails in a hurry. Good video and FLOAT ON !
@themidwestshredder5 жыл бұрын
Biker Bob thank you 🙏 Yeah I think riding any kind of board will help. The great thing about this is that we just have to put more miles and get more experience and we’ll progress no problem. We just have to practice. I really like that craft and ride magnetic fender. The only reason I didn’t buy it is because I plan on getting flight fins in the future. Right now I’m using the float life fender. I just put out a video that talks about the mistakes I’ve made as a new rider. Check it out some time. Thanks Bob!

I forget where I found it but someone explained in another video the main difference is that on a snowboard we are used to pivoting about the edges of the board whereas on a onewheel it pivots about the center of the tire. I've found in my limited riding experience I get too high up on my toes too fast as I'm expecting the board to "edge" instead of kinda softly roll. I've also heard multiple times a balance board is good onewheel practice (which makes a lot of sense actually.)

I just rode one for the first time, it was my friends and I didn't like how it felt like I was leaning forward so he put it on delirium. Instant improvement! I think it's easier to learn if you board already.
@themidwestshredder5 жыл бұрын
mshane86 yeah you’re right, if you do any board sport, you will definitely learn faster. My favorite mode to ride in is delirium. It feels the best imo.

I totally agree with you about the Fender. If those who don't want the fender then take it off and put it in your closet.. $1,800.00 bucks it should also come with Helmet, and a lot of other things. They are ripping people off.

Hi, great video!... I'm a beginner Snowboarder and sadly I just can go one or two weeks per year to the mountain so... my progression is too slow. Do you think that riding a Pint will help me to progess during the year to have more fun on winters on the snowboard?
@themidwestshredder4 жыл бұрын
Erico Behmer snowboarding and riding a onewheel are different but I can see how the onewheel can help. The way you press your toes to initiate a toeside turn or go on your heels to initiate a heelside turn are very similar. When I carve on my onewheel, it totally reminds me of my snowboard. With the pint being smaller and more nimble, it can help with your balance and your inputs. Plus getting into the habit of bending your knees is good for snowboarding. You can practice this on a onewheel. Being on any board will help prepare your mental game when it comes to snowboarding. If your interested in a pint, go for it! They are a blast to ride. At that price point, you will not lose trust me. If you’re still struggling on the snowboard in the winter, Watch snowboarding videos and practice the basics. You will get there for sure. Buy the pint if you have the funds no matter what 🤙🏽

My brother inlaw went with an e- skate board. He was convinced the top speed would ultimately be boring for him.. I tried to steer him away but I failed. If all you're worried about is top speed then I guess there's no saving you
@themidwestshredder3 жыл бұрын
Yeah a Onewheel and e-skate are totally different. The reason I love the onewheel is because it can go over bumps, big cracks, grass, dirt, loose gravel…. They are still fairly quick too 🤙🏽

Interesting to hear your thoughts from a snowboarding perspective. i can ride switch, but i'm not great at it. maybe getting a Pint will help me on the slopes, too!
@themidwestshredder5 жыл бұрын
Frank Ozaki hi Frank! Riding switch on this will help your snowboarding without a doubt. With the pint being smaller and more nimble, i think it will force you to be even smoother with your switch riding. Like I said in the video, if you’re too shaky on the Onewheel, you will feel it and it’ll force you to relax or switch back to your normal stance 👍🏼
@ken-mb5cp4 жыл бұрын
Very good video. I liked seeing your steady progression and I agree about the fender but that’s capitalism. Don’t give away what you can sell. I guess they feel they’re giving you the value you’re paying for. I like that you’re respectful of the machine too. Stay balanced and float on.

Chris Gordon hi Chris, my riding is much better nowadays. This was my first time ever getting on my onewheel. You will pick it up quickly. Practice and enjoy it. Also watch “beginner video tips” videos and learn from other people’s mistakes. My thoughts is that it’s definitely one of my favorite things I own. Worth every penny. I use it to run my dog daily, to cruise around, to take out the garbage, and many other things. You’ll love it man 🤙🏽

Do you feel the OW would give your legs and core a workout or strengthening?
@themidwestshredder5 жыл бұрын
Sam Steiger hey I would say for sure. A lot of it would have to do with your riding style and the distance you ride. I notice that the more I ride, the more I like to squat when I carve and cruise around. This will definitely workout your legs. When you’re riding, your hitting bumps, cracks, and uneven surfaces so there’s some balancing taking place and you’ll definitely feel that. If you can buy one, get it. You won’t lose, trust me. As long as you don’t ride over your head, you’ll love this thing.

Once you get more experience in, try shaping settings other than Sequoia. Riding the board a little more loose or aggressive actually felt more natural for me. I have no previous snowboard, skateboard, or surfing experience but in terms of balance and maneuvering, it made a lot of difference.
@themidwestshredder5 жыл бұрын
TheSlyGiraffe you are 100% right. After I made this video, I experimented with all the settings. The one I ride with now is delirium. Is there one that you like the most for cruising?
@euc_sharkman5 жыл бұрын
@@themidwestshredder I used Delirium for a while, and felt most comfortable in that regarding the standard settings. After that, I played around with the Custom shaping settings to find a good mix and stance degree tilt that felt comfortable for my weight and leg length in longer ride situations. Great customization options.

Ethan Vosburgh it’s just an honest video of me trying it out for the first time. Most people would practice first and then put out a video. I swallowed my pride and was honest about it. I could’ve put out a video of me making turns right away but that’s just not realistic. I unboxed it and taught myself in that short time.
@antennatrees4 жыл бұрын
@@themidwestshredder Yeah man, it was a great video and I enjoyed it. Was just joking with ya. We all learn differently. Turns came intuitively to me right away, but going switch will still take me some time. Plus dismounts are super hard for me. You grokked both of those things instantly.
