Yeah, I don't go out skiing without my helmet now. I kind of like to go a bit fast, it's reassuring to know that I got that if I fuck up my edge grip. One time during summer, I saw a poor old guy die after a not even fast fall on a mountain bike. His grandson was there.

Helmets are freaking cool. I'm not a snowboarder, but I got to use my can recently on my longboard when a car cut me off. Scratched up palms, bruised butt and arms and a completely stiff neck from the impact on the back of my head, but no concussion and no headache. That thing didn't only save my life, it made that crash from a life-altering event into a nuisance.

Got a concussion snowboarding years ago. Hit my head twice due to how I fell and the momentum I had. It was on black ice so if I wasn't wearing a helmet there's definitely a chance that could have killed me. I was a teen so I got up and kept going the rest of the day. Wasn't till the next day at band practice that I realized something was wrong. I was right under a chairlift when it happened and the people who saw it said it looked pretty nasty. I don't remember much about it.

Man i remember my first time hitting a jump like that, did the exact same thing, and had a very nice guy stop to check on me, I had the wind knocked out of me completely and could barely talk, but he made sure I was good, helped move me out of the way, and sat with me for a few till I was good to go. I was also a pretty young guy at the time, so it was really nice experiencing kindness from a stranger, as all to often the young are discredited by those who are older.

Many many moons ago my boyfriend was a snowboard instructor in NH. I had skied maybe a grand total of 6 times in my 28 years of life. He talked me into going to the mountain with him and his 3 year old daughter and I *quickly* realized that his daughter was a pro compared to me. I tried but not realizing until that day that the 6+ operations that I had on my ear had truly messed up my balance. I let them go have fun and I was working on getting to the lodge when this little boy (7 or 8yo) came up and became my cheerleader! He was bent at the hips looking down on me saying come on, you can do it. I know you can do it. You only have one tiny bit of snow to go. 😊 my day way better than I thought it would be. And now whenever anyone asks me if I want to go to the mountain to ski or snowboard I can say no thank you with a little chuckle!
