Stay safe by knowing when to sit it out while adventurous Kurt hits the crazy hikes. I think that gentleman had a good 👍 idea when he asked that the each newlywed couple, plant an olive tree instead of purchasing a marriage certificate. Brilliant. A traditional platter, the house meatballs and whatever specials of the day. Have fun in Kruje and in the rest of Albania, and if you need any suggestion about anything (but especially food) ask away.

Just as a side note you two are looking so good as you travel over the years I think you're both getting not only in better shape but I think you guys look better and better each year! Your lunch looked so good I love olive oil on things and looks like they have plenty of olive oil. Do you cook with olive oil in the van? I personally use grapeseed oil because it doesn't smoke at high temperatures. But will use olive oil from time to time. I look forward to Saturdays and Wednesdays and seeing how your journey is going each week. Another great video with a fascinating insight into Albanian life and customs. The museum at the castle looks amazing, and it's interesting to see the straps round the clock/watch tower; I guess they're helping to hold it together against the ravages of time. Its also fab that the original bell is still in place. So many around Europe were melted down during the second world war for munitions, it's rare to find originals.

You are right it served as watch tower also,a strong earthquake hit Albania in 2019,and damaged the tower ,that's why it has straps around.

Hari OM As Mousakka, Feta, Dolmades and such are actually Greek foods, clearly there has been a strong influence left throughout history - but equally, the Turkish influence (Ottomans). Very interesting. And yes, utterly delicious! The number of shops in the bazaar with more or less the same goods has one wondering how on earth they actually make a living. I guess there will be a tourism boom for part of the year which they have to spread out over the rest. What a truly lovely town, though. As am now myself driving a long van into some very narrow spaces, you have my fullest admiration for the navigation of those streets!!! YAM xx

Watching your video about "Scanderberg" - the Albanian war hero was called Iskander Bey. During WW2, although Albania was nominally neutral, around 9000 men volunteered to serve with the German armed forces (the Heer). As non-Germans they couldn't serve in the regular army - the Wehrmacht - but could join the Waffen-SS. About 9000 men did join the SS and formed " Waffen SS-Division Skanderberg ". Albania was just one of many European countries who provided volunteers for the SS.
