That’s a heck of a lot of snow you got there.. I’m from Iowa and I’d say you about need a bigger tractor to push the snow farther from your soon to be new fence or maybe just get a snowblower for it someday

A snowblower is definitely in the plans after this ordeal! Just need to decide on a front mount or rear mount (probably with a snow pusher up front...)!

Snow pusher is needed along with rear snowblower. Some better tires would help, r4 suck in snow. Are ur rears loaded with fluid? I deal with 3” of snow at the most and run loaded turf tires on 855. I have a plow/snowpusher on my loader.

I've given so much thought to the best arrangement to set this tractor up as for snow removal in the future. And a snow pusher out front with a rear mounted blower is a damn great combo! I had been leaning towards a front mounted blower after this past week. For a few reasons, one main one being that I spent all the extra cash for this fancy mid-PTO that if I didn't get a blower up front to use it with that I'd surely be kicking myself with going for a rear only... BUT... a rear with a front pusher blade could be the best combo ever! Yeah, I have liquid ballast in the rear. I tried like hell to get this tractor delivered with the Versa Turfs from my dealer, but they were practically having no part of it! My understanding is that in order to do so would require different wheel sizes, and the fact is that the only dealer in the country that could source those particular tires were really short on supply, and might not even have had the matching fronts to go with it, which could cause drive train problems when mismatched sizes are on. Yadda yadda yadda. I'll bet that when these R4's wear out I'll have strategized to get the Turf's on there somehow! What is 855? Your tractor?

@@NewMoonRanch a 855 is a older 24hp John Deere Deere compact tractor. Awesome old series of compact tractors the don’t have electronics or regen and where made for a long time.

Switch out to Versa/Garden Pro radial tires and you will see a significant difference in traction in the snow. Puts R4s to shame. With the Radials I never need chains to clear the snow in my driveway with my bucket set up.

Thanks! I tried like hell to get this tractor delivered with the Versa Turfs from my dealer, but they were practically having no part of it! My understanding is that in order to do so would require different wheel sizes, and the fact is that the only dealer in the country that I could source those particular tires were really short on supply, and might not even have had the matching fronts to go with it, which could cause drive train problems when mismatched sizes are on. I definitely plan to get those Versa Turfs when these R4's wear out. But I'll probably try to sipe and chain these tires next winter and see how that does. By then I'll have the whole new hill and drive way to contend with. If they don't perform well enough, or cause me problems all winter with that, then the Versa's will surely move up in priority! But those new wheels and overall changeover cost will be a tough pill to swallow! Ideally just have two different sets altogether, like my cars, to change out to when the seasons change.

Can you put chains on the rear wheels?
@NewMoonRanch Жыл бұрын
Indeed. This winter is something of an experiment. I’ll probably get chains next year.

Ohhhh yeah! It’ll change your life! 😆

You need a snowblower. It’s best way to go. You wouldn’t have that problem.👍

Agreed! Practically exactly what I've learned through this process! And I can't wait to get one!
