Snowgrass Flat Goat Rocks

Description of the Snowgrass Flat hike in Goat Rocks Wilderness. Includes basic driving directions and turn by turn navigation for the trail as well as a description of what to expect along the way.

We extended this hike to be a3 day Backpack in mid August of 2020. More wildflowers than blades of grass! Didn't even notice bees. We camped in snowgrass flats and used it as a base camp. We had poles but really could have used crampons for all of The snowfields. Day two we hiked the Pct across the knife's edge and back. Awesome views and we did see herds of goats on a nearby mountain. We hiked out on day 3 over to goat lake, still mostly frozen but with brilliant blue ice edges. We hiked out via a different trail to a different parking lot where my cousins car awaited us. Fantastic Hike!

What time of year were you on these trails? Thinking of backpacking in early July and I don't know if we're going to be stuck in the snow or not

Mid July. There's a lot of variation from year to year regarding snow melt. I think in early July you're definitely going to encounter snow patches and Goat Lake will absolutely still be frozen over. You won't need snowshoes, but make sure you have trekking poles and leave some extra time in your itinerary as some of those snowfields can slow you down.
