I stopped in Raton to eat once on my way home to Denver from Santa Fe, New Mexico, a 400 mile trip on highway I-25 that I made every year or two back in the 80’s. Raton, N.M. is a poor nondescript little town at Raton Pass on the border of New Mexico and Colorado. If I were inclined to stop for lunch, I’d otherwise choose to wait till I got to Trinidad, a short distance away. I haven’t heard this pretty little song before. Thanks for writing down and supplying the lyrics. ❤

@@Fairy-door-78-86 Though Raton and Raton Pass are on an Interstate, it's pretty much the boondocks. I read on one of your bio tidbits that you lived a long time in Ireland. Do you sing in Irish? I was thinking of Mo Ghile Mear and Crucan na bPaiste. And I would love to hear you do Mountains of Pomeroy. Thanks for sharing your wonderful, unique talents!

@@douglaswaples6223 Yes I lived in Ireland for 20 years my granny was Irish and all the ancestors going back from there. My dad was Welsh. I don't speak Irish but I have actually just begun learning.It's not easy ! I didn't know the sOng Mountains of Pomeroy, it's very moving and I like story it tells very much. I'll try over the next week or two to see if I can learn it.

@@Fairy-door-78-86 Good for you with the Irish language. I believe Irish would be difficult to learn, but I heard that PM Leo Varadkar learned as an adult. I taught myself the words to the Welsh anthem Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau just because I love the song, but I am a terrible singer. The late Seamus Begley has great sung versions of Pomeroy. So much to experience, so little time!

@@douglaswaples6223 Yes we can do anything we put our minds to I guess. To tell you about the song "To the Mountains of America". I met an English gypsy who was living in France. She had a project to go to see all the people she knew in UK then Ireland and go to America on the trail of the Pioneers .That's a simple version of the story.She asked me to write songs about the trip. So the first one is "Mountains of America", Then "Song for Gort" where she stayed in Ireland.Then "30 miles to Galway" about a child who died in the famine (true story) Then "Ellis Island" . Finally for the moment the last one was "Song for Zach" who she met and married on her travels. It's a long story but that is the jist of it :)

@@Fairy-door-78-86 I miss her. Saw her with John Prine at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis. As we were walking in through the side parking lot she was also walking in. She looked so tired and small so I didn't say much to her. We both just had a birthday July 6th.
