This is a helmet camera from my brother. He is on a 92 Polaris 500 Indy. Things were going great until he seized a piston. It happens once and he stops on the ice, the next time, there was no ice to stop on. I am on the other sled that is in the video.

I’m surprised he made it that far once you start bouncing and splashing water usually the belt gets wet and you sink right away. He went pretty far before that happened

It wasn't a rotex. Just the plain old stock engine that had the timing advanced too far. We blew it up 6 times before figuring out that someone changed the timing. That's what happens when you buy a used sled from someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

well be lucky that it wasnt 42 ft of water like i did on the deepest end of big cedar in west bend

Incorrect. Water on the engine would not hurt it. Water in the intake would. Water on the belt is the most common reason for sinking other than low speed, small track, and not enough nutz. This however was a blown engine. Hole in the top of piston says so. That doesn't happen from water.

This happened to me a few weeks ago, blew a piston and sunk it 12 feet, still in the bottom, total loss. 97 indy 500

We got into the water and drug it to shore. Then all the way to the nearest road to the trailer. It's was very heavy.

I'm thinking about going out this week. Maybe ill have another video soon, this time without the sinking!

That was so weird the way it would lose momentum and start porpoising. It really sounds like it didn't lock up and he shut it down to save it before it went under? Was that a stock track with tiny lugs? I put a 1.25" lug on my 98 Yamaha Vmax and that made it a beast on the water. Very little running start required.

My question is how do you blow up a Fuji motor period? There fricking bullet proof
@TheArticSkipper
@TheArticSkipper 11 жыл бұрын
We blew it up 5 times. After the fifth time we figured out that someone advanced the timing way too much. It did about 400 miles per burn down. After that it was great!

Running it too lean. One trick we used to do is always add just a little bit of Isopropyl to the gas on each fill up just in case a little water got in the tank which would cause a lean condition in one of the cylinders.
@TheArticSkipper
@TheArticSkipper 10 жыл бұрын
We now have ethonol in the gas here. I think that does the same thing
@Greghh1960
@Greghh1960 10 жыл бұрын
TheArticSkipper-> Maybe. I just know we never had a meltdown in our Indy's after putting a little in every tank and always running 92 octane or better. Of course, if you had the jetting too lean in relation to the outside temperature that would also cause a meltdown. Anyways, if retarding the timing worked, great.

Erik Kellogg and anyone else on here who obviously don't know a damn thing about Polaris snowmobiles. The wedge chassis was and is still used to this day for water cross why you ask? The way the belly is shaped smooth not round. Yamaha suck on water any snowmobiler will tell you that.
