Fully upgraded Western Star is my go to truck for all kinds of missions. Stable, versatile, great range, good size and turning radius and easy to drive (good balance of maneuverability with highway speed stability). It will always succeed where other trucks fail. I did 90% of the contract work in Alaska with the Western Star.

The thing about the Western Star is no matter what job you ask of it, it can do it. There are other trucks that may perform certain tasks better, but the WWS can do all of them acceptably well. It pretty much rendered the Paystar obsolete in my experience.

The Paystar is narrow, and good for getting up and down tight trails and fitting between trees when you are off the beaten path. It's good at low speed crawling. It has horrible gas mileage and top speed so you don't want it as your do anything truck. The WWS is more stable on muddy roads and double track paths so if you are following a map line, you're better off with it, plus it gets decent gas mileage and will haul most loads at a good pace. It can do the high-saddle big loads ok, but the Pacific trucks (pick which one you like best) do them better and safer and are practically un-tippable.

I know I’m quite a bit late to this series, but I do believe if you would have had both the Paystar and the WWS in Low - you would have made it up that hill with a load. The Low - reduces spin and provides more gripping torque to the drive wheels. On another note, I absolutely love your snowrunner and Farming Simulator series and all the info you provide on them. WWS has been my preferred truck in Michigan. The one knock against it though is that if your running a small crane / flatbed combo you loose the ability to pull a trailer, which seems odd as the WWS has a longer wheelbase than a number of trucks that don’t have this limitation

I used Paystar for the first towing of Western Star. It turned out that the truck poorly overcomes steep climbs with cargo. The Tayga 6436 makes this easy. Strange, Paystar has better cross-country ability, and passes with cargo where the Tayga cannot pass empty. But on the rise, the opposite is true. It seems that the developers just played with the parameters.

Early game the WWS gets good Off road tires where the Paystar is stuck with the crap A/T tires, plus the dual wheels means four more tires. With the UOD II, which are better in mud than UOD III, I could run in H in spots that the Paystar had to go L with diff lock. Paystar weight may also play a part in this. Paystar mud tires have a mud friction of 2.0 the UOD II for the WWS is 1.9 in mud the difference is not noticeable. And the WWS has 4 more tires to help it. By the way the Paystar off road dual tires OHD I have a 1.9 mud friction could be a better choice over the MHS I muds for it, they are also better in dirt 3 vs 2 friction. Paystar lift is in White Valley I think it's one of the hidden ones, it only has one engine. The lift doesn't do much just raises the body a few inches. You could just restart from the main menu to test in same spot in same condition since the game resets everything. If you do the best setup to compare would be WWS with UOD II and Paystar with OHD I.

Yeah WWS was a free truck that can be useful. I can't wait to compare it to Paystar in snow! I have been doing a personal challenge of retrieving all trailers from the maps and selling them in order to afford more tires and upgrades. I'm using Fleetstar as my fuel truck, and WWS as my main hauler. It is capable of going almost too fast with empty trailers offroad (damages a lot), but it suffers in mud on the island maps. Lvl 6 driver so only using all terrain tires at the moment. I may actually take all the trailer cash and buy the Paystar, seeing as that is a fitting reward after going through all that trouble :) good stream, thanks for sharing it Arthur!

The "bugged" part of the GMC task is that the truck doesn't disappear. The task does not say you receive the truck as a reward. The complaints about that task are driving me a bit crazy. Otherwise, love the content!

The spare tire is in a really bad spot for the western star. I never use it because it takes away the ability for the tires to climb rocks. Plus it almost sits lower than the frame by just a little bit.

Also i use the freeway gearbox on the western star and use the high gear a lot though the offroad areas.

There is another mission in Alaska where you fix a truck and it just sits there. It might not be a bug.

As a solo player, the real deal breaker for me is level progression. At lv.8 you can have the Western-Star with full kit and proper off-road tires, while the Paystar is still struggling with it's original A/T singles. By the time it catches back up most solo players will have likely moved on to the Tayga or Azov, which are FAR more capable. It's a good truck, but sadly crippled by fuel, stability, and progression issues for the sake of early game balance.

Honestly ank mk38 easy to get to i got it right after tutorial then you can get the tayga mk38 and tayga can beat the game for you

I do a double with that truck and service trailer. Since you're so close to the tunnel to island lake when you're at the GMC I go right over to the twinsteer amd refuel amd repair it and bring them all back in one shot.

I saw this and thought I'd do my own test with the Western Star and the Brigadier. I did the mission where you pick up the oil containers off the beach in Smithville Dam. I was able to get the brigadier back up the hill to the gas station with no winch but the Western Star had to winch past the rock half way up the bottom hill. The WS did the mission with a flat bed with 30 Gallons of fuel at the end. The Brigadier had a flat bed and a crane and finished with 4 Gallons of fuel. I think I like the Brigadier better because the throttle is more responsive but both are great trucks. Great video BTW.

When you have a bit of load on the back you can save a lot of fuel if you lock the dif and only use awd if need for. In single player the range and stability of the WWS just make it the better choice .

Yes - Fearedfox has taught me the secret fuel saving way - It save up to 25 percent gas only using AWD in absolute emergency.

Try using the White-Western for one of the heavy rig transports. You’ll see how solid and planted it is, and that it almost can’t tip over. One of the best trucks in the game - especially when you unlock diff.lock for it, but most of the time it doesn’t even need it. It also remains stable if you put the small loading crane on it.

Removing fuel from tank is not a good idea, the fuel starts to slop around which affects stability.

Been using the g920 wheel ok but on the test server had to switch to xbox controller as wheel would work then turn full to the right and you had to force it back on its spring but with the controller i had the same problem with the camera as yourself which is a pain. Same problem as yourself with recovery off that truck and its still sitting outside my garage

Nope - it will have off road, but not mud. Not many trucks have the mud tires, but honestly - the UOD II tires are pretty much just as good.

Buy the Loadstar 1700. Fit it for recoveries. Use reverse + 4wd + diff to pull things through difficult sections. BTW you can't do anything with the GMC ... it is bugged. Wasting all that time and effort.

White is incredible as a semi , paystar is great as a crane/flatbed combo hauler . Unfortunately all of them get put to shame by the Russian trucks , the American trucks are a labour of love for me .

UOD II better in mud, worse in dirt. But since most problems are getting stuck in mud i use the UOD II , only exception is when i really need the dirt grip for some rescue where the UOD III will give a little better pull. White is really good, but in Russland or Alaska it just is to slow in the deep mud/snow. No trailer with flatbed+crane, paystar has weaker engine but can take trailer !

White Western Star is much more stable and doesn't spend what the other does,it's a truck you can trust to do a job and has good upgrades and it's powerful and for me the best american truck in the game. You can put the Paystar there and the result will be worse. I am not that skilled since i'm new but i almost explored the last entire map of Michigan using it,towers and some upgrades and only deep mud stopped it,in Alaska performs well,almost as good as BM17,Tayga or Azov and most trucks have terrible turn radius,common problem. Paystar is the older flipper monkey brother of ANK MK38 Civillian,all it takes is some higher corner and a tire goes up and falls to a side,i drove it once at Smithville and ANK too...real bad trucks,not even as tankers or rescue they are good. Paystar is a waste of money and time.

The Paystar's weakness, really it's only weakness is engine power. There are no engine upgrades for it. If you don't want it to tip, the offroad duallies have almost as much traction as the mud tyres, but they make it much wider at the back, they actually stick out past the guards, they are wider than the stock duallies. The White Western Star's major benefit is engine power, with the most powerful engine option it's able to easily pull anything you might come across in the game. The downsides to the White Western Star are all to do with it's size, it's big and heavy. So it gets stuck in some tight areas, it's got a big turning circle, and it sits a bit low. It also doesn't have the best tyres, with your hill climb there the Paystar ran out of power, and the White Western Star ran out of traction.

According to that file the UOD II is better in the mud while the UOD III is better in the dirt. That being said I’m running 2 White Westerns stars, one with the II and one with the III and haven’t noticed a substantial difference between the two.

Paystar > Western Star The Paystar is way better off-road. It does tip more easily, but it also does everything else more easily while using less fuel. Don't flip it and you can do all of Michigan with the Paystar.

After flipping the Paystar 3 times, I switched to the Western Star and never went back. To me, stability is the most important trait. Tippy trucks are a total time suck. I can winch myself out of anywhere.....except if the truck is on its side!

i feel he spends to much time in low with the diff lock on some trucks can make due without it and seem to handle mud better in auto (mainly the drive to the mission)

Only if they bog down. I turn on diff lock in the mud. Otherwise its off. I use Low High to keep speed up whilst not loosing control.

It’s better than the Paystar IMO. Then the Freightliner FL114 is great also. Do love the Paystar to though I use as my off road tractor and the WWS and Freightliner as my flatbeds and everything else. Also you don’t get the GMC it’s not listed as a reward on the mission details.

The GMC contract, once it was repaired couldn't you not jump into it via the function menu (Change Truck) rather than the menu? Also I've been meaning to ask, why when we hear Monie in the background talking to you, why does she sound like she's speaking to you over Skype? :) Paystar ALL.DAY. LONG. for me, but I do use the Western as the truck that replaced my Fleetstar and GMC, collectively. I guess it's what contracts you use the Paystar for, I prefer mine as a haulage truck - Crane and rear sideboard bed. Western for Heavy Crane and Trailer use. (P12 for Rescue)

Its less tipsy, but its also lower clearance and more fragile. To me they are a tie - or I should say the paystar works better in some situations and the western star works better in others. The WS makes a way better crane truck, for example.

Maybe, maybe not - depends on the road conditions. And this is true of any truck - I could have done the entire mission with the GMC too if I was willing to do a LOT of winching.
