I grew up with sleds in Minnesota, went to college with the daughter of the president of Polaris in the 80's, a classmate was a test rider for Polaris before he went to college, a friend was an engineer at the Brute factory (remember that one). For the life of me I can't see the emphasis on fast. Bouncing down a trail with 170 hp and worrying about cornering on snow while going past the equivalent of 10,000 fire hydrants waiting to snag me into oblivion is not a priority. Bragging rights to 10 second quartermiles won't matter at all once you are riding. Can't someone make a light sled that is reliable and simple that uses ability based on lack of weight and balance that doesn't need an extra gas can to get home? You can take it into the mountains and get it stuck and can pull it around and ride on top of the snow back home. Alone. Without a twang rope or a crew. There must be a way. These "rocket" sleds steer the industry into groups all congregated in a spot watching each other take turns at tricks like a bunch of skate boarders. My dream is a 250 lb sled that you can ride off trail or on and can be flipped around like an old tundra lt if you get stuck but has the power and performance engineering of this era. About 50 hp. Don't need a Ninja and don't want a tracked suburban. Am I just that far away from what snowmobiling is today?

Nice looking sled from Polaris but their fit and finish and engine technology is far behind Ski-Doo and Rotax. Brembo brakes that Ski-Doo uses are world class so his comments regarding braking is hilarious. Brakes on Ski-Doo work well and far safer because if chain breaks you still have brakes. Jack shaft brakes don’t work if chain breaks which does happen!!! Polaris has a far better headlight than Ski-Doo but that’s about it. pDrive primary clutch on Ski-Doo is superior to P-85 because it has less friction due to using rollers. Polaris primary hasn’t changed in 36 years.

The BAD: Touchscreen kinda impractical. Hands won't stay protected from the wind- might if they had a plastic guard. Too narrow around the seat will provide less control, not more. Drive axle brakes are better. If that chain brakes you have no brakes. Panels are easy to remove (read: steal.) Aluminum arm will bend and will cost a small fortune to replace. The GOOD: Good headlights and storage. Strong motor and good suspension.
