Great video, we have loads of snow here in Ireland as well, I built a quinze for the first time ever yesterday! I wonder now long it'll be before the novelty of the snow wears off :)

@betterthanmcgyver no.. but you may well have given that knot a new name! I've not seen anyone else do it.. so between us we may have created something lol. The snow clove... I like it. Merry Christmas.

tech. speaking it is call a snow clove when you put a bite in it, nice demo.

@LearnBushcraft Life is good! Last week has been very mild with lows around 40F, which is about 5C I think..Doubtful we'll have a white Christmas but it's definitely gonna be colder next week.

@SKwoodsman it takes longer to get going... it seems to have a particular heat that it works at. Up to that heat you get notjhing, even lots of sqeaking, then all of a sudden the critical heat is reached and it starts chucking out smoke.. you can even slow down then and it will still keep chucking out smoke and dust. So by no means as quick as elder but always seems to work... and resists wet too... so can be collected on the day of use and it also works on a wide variety of hearth materials.

4:20 now you know why i dont have a headpiece on my jacket, haha,, great video dale, did you collect the hand drill wood in the bush that day. like i say before ,, you must be one of the best in the worls on the hand drill, !! fredde

Anyone could grab wet materials and whistle while effortlessly making a hand drill ember! Next time try doing it under water while holding your breath and you'll get my respect!!! hehehehe :)

@hobbexp Yes I wanted to go look for the materials there and then, but sadly ran out of time so just did it with the stuff I had. If not too busy will try again in a couple of days! Merry Christmas :)

@IHatchetJack Ha ha, I'll try... and perhaps to push the limits justa bit i'll bow drill and tan a hide at the same time lol. How life in the bush? We have about 12" snow here... first white christmas in 30 years!

@LearnBushcraft i have plenty of grip on my hands. The dust just dosn't pore out as normal and it is a very small amount of dust (do i need more speed ect) thanks alot mate darren

@flamefinger1989 It could be to do with the grip on your palms... try wetting them a little and make sure your hands are warm, this is real important... stuff them in your jacket for a bit. Oh and forget fiingered gloves... use mittens instead. If you still have no luck then put a little dab of douglas fir resin on your palms, but only a small amount as it can speed up blistering alot. However the more drilling you do the more grippy your hands become.

Why not have the adjustable knot impermanently attached to you tarp? You can then tie the other end to your tree or whatnot in what ever way you desire...

@UnlimitedBushcraft starting to here, but i have built a tractor assisted quinze this year as i have had freindly competition from a freind on who could build the biggest so this year i got all industrial, which is totally cheating, but at least mines bigger lol. Hope that snow doesn't cause too many probs.
