Great video, we have loads of snow here in Ireland as well, I built a quinze for the first time ever yesterday! I wonder now long it'll be before the novelty of the snow wears off :)

@LearnBushcraft Life is good! Last week has been very mild with lows around 40F, which is about 5C I think..Doubtful we'll have a white Christmas but it's definitely gonna be colder next week.

@SKwoodsman it takes longer to get going... it seems to have a particular heat that it works at. Up to that heat you get notjhing, even lots of sqeaking, then all of a sudden the critical heat is reached and it starts chucking out smoke.. you can even slow down then and it will still keep chucking out smoke and dust. So by no means as quick as elder but always seems to work... and resists wet too... so can be collected on the day of use and it also works on a wide variety of hearth materials.

@flamefinger1989 It could be to do with the grip on your palms... try wetting them a little and make sure your hands are warm, this is real important... stuff them in your jacket for a bit. Oh and forget fiingered gloves... use mittens instead. If you still have no luck then put a little dab of douglas fir resin on your palms, but only a small amount as it can speed up blistering alot. However the more drilling you do the more grippy your hands become.

Why not have the adjustable knot impermanently attached to you tarp? You can then tie the other end to your tree or whatnot in what ever way you desire...

@UnlimitedBushcraft starting to here, but i have built a tractor assisted quinze this year as i have had freindly competition from a freind on who could build the biggest so this year i got all industrial, which is totally cheating, but at least mines bigger lol. Hope that snow doesn't cause too many probs.
