So this is actually really awesome. My mind was blown at making the base dress from paper. The newspaper dress could have been an adorable finished product itself! Finished dress was fantastic, the tail on the back especially.

They totally were! The ink even got all over my table, but luckily, it was nothing a little soap and water couldn't fix. I had so much fun making this that it really didn't matter! I'm glad you liked the finished product. Thanks for watching!

Hi, I'm interested in making a dress like this but I couldnt really grasp how you made the feathers because of the fast forwarded video. Do you mind explaining the steps? Love the dress :)

LeighCoverrs I basically just cut out paper shapes that looked like feathers, then folded them twice down the middle (once in one direction and once in the other direction, with the folds in two slightly different spots) to give it dimension and the suggestion of a line down the middle. The actual sewing part wasn't difficult, but the machine I used was a little bit small so I needed to crush the paper a bit on one side to get it to fit into the machine. Luckily, the pleats were easy to fix after I was done sewing!

Wow, looks amazing!!!! :D And like a ton of work... Mh, guess you could get at least a similar effect if you used interfacing to stiffen the feathers. Though if you wanted to wash it you'd probably have to iron every single feather individually then :/ Oh, but you could easily make them look more feather like by leaving the edges unhemmed and kinda let them fray a bit ^_^
