Love your videos guys. Had a couple questions/ queries. Firstly is whether you guys would be able to do a comparison video between the bandit swags and the dirty dees, looking at upgrading from a double hoop swag to one of these but scratching my head on which to pick and would love to see a vid or even a blog post comparing the two. Secondly, how do you guys reckon 2 fairly average sized people would fit in a 1100, or would it just be better to go with the 1400 over the sake of saving a couple bucks. Finally do you have a video or blog post with your recommendations for sleeping bag systems that go great in swags? (Bonus points if they zip together). Cheers and keep up the great work Ben and team
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
We've answered this a fair amount on on website through customer questions @Riley, its actually really difficult to recommend on over the other. We often say its abit like Holden v Ford. The Darche canvas is slightly thicker, but aside from this, they have near-identical design, shape, mattress thickness and features. Darche has the reputation for being "the best", however 23Zero are also top notch, and are quickly becoming as popular, or more popular than Darche. In terms of the 1100 size, this is 110cm, or King Single size. Its definitely not a 2 person swag, unless you really really like each other and are happy to touch ALOT. We've recently run through Sleep Systems for Sea to Summit covering Hiking, Camping & 4WD/Touring so keep an eye out for those coming soon. ~ Lauren

I like these swags more than the Adventure Kings Big Daddy range because they don’t sag in the center section of the swag like the Big Daddy swags do . I hope that in the future 23 Zero make these type of swag a foot or so higher , it would make it more comfortable for when getting dressed and sitting upright.

Hi Ben, would you be able to fit a big with you in the 900? Or would it be best to go for the 1100? Also, how well do these swags roll down in terms of their overall size after packing up? Cheers
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I reckon that unless you are short and have room at the foot or head end, you'd be best going for the 1100 size if you want to have a bag inside the tent, Joe. As for pack size, they are in line with most dome style swags with the length packed being the same as the width when setup, and about 45-50cm in diameter. ~ Ben

Hi Ben, could you please tell me if you had all the windows open on a hot summers night near the beach or river, would i get mauled by midgees and sandflys? Because if so, that would be a crap time to find out about it. Cause I assume rubbing insect repellent on the screen may not be good for it.
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Muzzle Flash. I can't say for sure whether or not you'll get mauled sorry, midges seem to be able to find their way through almost anything. Given the mesh is made more with durability in mind rather than versatility, and just simply by looking at the mesh, I'd say that it will slow down the rate at which you are mauled, but won't completely protect you. I wouldn't recommend rubbing insect repellant on the fabric as this could have a negative effect on the waterproof properties of the fabric. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
They are independent zippers, NasTime Adventures, you need to open one before the other. In other words, if you have both the mesh and canvas zipped closed, you'll need to operate two zips to be able to enter/exit the swag. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you would be referring to a pole repair sleeve, Blake. It should slide over the top of the poles and can be used to strengthen a broken section of pole until such point that you can replace it. Hope that clears things up. ~ Ben

Gday ben, are there and swags that you would say have Midgee proof mesh?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I don't reckon there is any that are 100% midge proof, Carmel, those little blighters get in anywhere they can. The mesh that is midge proof is usually really fine and not as strong which makes it less suitable for use in a swag, even then you'll find that they will get in through the small holes left by the zippers. Insect repellant is probably your best friend when it comes to midges. ~ Ben

@SnowysOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
If swags are seam sealed and waterproofed we assume they don't need seasoning, but it is best practice and we know that some of these newer swags do still benefit form seasoning. I think light showers would probably be ok, but it would be best practise to season on the safe side. ~ Lauren

@@SnowysOutdoors Hi Ben my 1400 bandit arrived, then I also ordered the fly, I was looking for an air matress, but I was wondering if I should just get a 2nd 50cm matress to put in it, I am not sure if I should do that or get some foam flooring. What do you think mate?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
@@muzzleflash1personal preference I reckon, and it may come down to budget too. A second 50mm mattress might be a bit much bulk. If you find the included mattress needs a little more padding you could throw a couple closed-cell foam mats under the existing, two if these side by side will give you good coverage without too much extra bulk - www.snowys.com.au/camp-mat-large. Personally, I'd be upgrading to a good self-inflating mattress like the Zempire Monstamat or Exped Megamat, but this is a more expensive exercise. ~ Ben

@@RoyTheKing241 the height is about the same for each model I reckon, although I don't have any set up to check directly for you sorry. If there is a difference, it wouldn't be much. 65 cm is from the top of the mattress, but this is a rough measurement, it can change a bit depending on how it is set up. @SnowysOutdoors

The 23Zero Husky stretcher is a good match. Generally you want your swag to overhang the stretcher slightly, especially if you're expecting rain or frosty mornings, etc so you don't get moisture trapped between the swag base and the stretcher fabric. ~ Lauren

@@SnowysOutdoors thanks so much for your reply. I meant more about which one is the absolute best out of the two, but I hear you on the Holden v Ford comparison haha I’m most interested in which will be best in wet weather, I saw that 23zero have additional reinforcement in the seals which made me think it could be slightly ahead of darche, notwithstanding darche has a thicker ripstop canvas it would seem it’s higher quality in general but maybe for wet weather the 23 zero is better?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
@@kateharrison9347 they're honestly a much of a muchness. Both swags have additional seam sealing/seam tape, and both are generally recommended to be seasoned before first use. The lower windows on the Darche model only velcro shut as opposed to zipping, and the 23Zero has a more protective awning flap on the head and foot windows, but other than that rain performance would be on par. 23 Zero do do a Segmental Swag fly which would work on both models and would be a great addition is you intend to be camping in the rain alot! ~ Lauren

I went with the Bandit 1100 as I felt the zippered side windows etc were more substantial and likely outlast the Velcro on the Darche Dirty Dee. The gusset windows on the ends also gives that inclement weather protection from that inevitable sideways rain haha.
