How fun. I've crocheted several different types of hats/beanies over the years. Today I purchased some Mongolian camel wool from Snow Leopard Trust. The camels shed the wool naturally, so --- as a staunch animal rights person --- I feel it's much less problematic as a wool source. I don't use sheep's wool. I can't wait to try this pattern. Thank you for this most excellent and supremely well-detailed tutorial.

Even though we have summer during Christmas, I have to make 5 beanies of which one is for a female. I simply love this pattern as I can use it for the gents as well. I’m 19 and black yarn with patterns like this is a nightmare for me too! Good luck with your beanies! I keep buying 80% wool blends and 100% merino wools and get so inspired to use them for wintery and Christmasy patterns eventhough it’s summer here and I won’t get to wear it for months haha.

Black yarn makes even the simplest patterns a nightmare. Last night I finally finished my hat made of half double crochet only, when I saw it in the morning, in daylight, it was a disaster 😅. I will try with this pattern, in daylight only. My husband is not a huge fan of pompons, I hope I will manage the hole to look nice.

I just finished my first beanie. It came out really cute. I have been crocheting for a few months now. I see that the rim of yours came out much more flush and mine has more ridges. Not sure what I'm doing but all my stiches have the same in each row. Also the ribbing stitched just after the puff stiches are more wavy than the ridges crocheted before the puffs. Not sure about what I did there either. The slip stich at the end of each row also left an uneven space. I used a yarn that is multicolored so overall it came out pretty good for my first. I will try another and see what happens. This one took me a weekend of evenings to finish. Love the videos as it helps me learn what the patterns are saying. 💕 I bought this pattern on your Etsy store. 💗

I am finding that working the puff stitch round in reverse a tad bit frustrating. So I modified the pattern to keep working in one direction by replacing the puff stitch with a 3hdc popcorn stitch. So far, so good.

When doing the first row with the puff stitch…if I chain one after doing the actual puff stitch I end up with an extra stitch for each set of four… do I not chain after that?

I've just recently gotten back into crochet. Could anyone tell me.. does the first row of stitches into the chain count towards the total number of rows needed? Or do you start counting when you start making single crochets into the back loops only? A 4 year old I would make the child size. You could go with the toddler for the baby to be safe if they have a big head. If you can get measurements check the size chart.

So, I’m trying to work on this hat. I asked this question in facebook but no one answered, so I’ll try here. When I start the first row of fpdc I had 72 stitches, perfect, that’s what I want. But when I started the first row with the puffs, no matter what I do, I have way more than 72 stitches. I’ve torn it out so many times, counted and recounted and still it doesn’t work out. The strange thing is my fpdc are all right🤦🏻‍♀️ Can anyone help me?

Are you counting the ch-1’s? You will not count the ch-1s they secure the puff stitch.

Hey, I'm having trouble with the stitch count..... When chaining 1 after the puff stitch am I counting the chain as a stitch? I'm I should be getting 68 on round 2 and everytime I'm counting I'm getting 80+ 😭

This happened to me too and I don’t think she’s counting the ch1 in the puff stitch as a stitch - if you subtract your puff stitches you should have your original stitch count
