It’s interesting that you talk about being burned out on music and losing hope, because that is exactly what this song is about. The shadow on the wall is a metaphor for BTS’s fear that one day they will be burned out and lose their passion for making music. It’s like a giant black shadow that is looming over them. The lyrics are, “that would be my first death, I’ve been always afraid of.” But as the song continues they realize that nothing could completely sever their love for music, and at the end of the video Jungkook looks back and the Shadow shrinks down to nothing. I think you would also enjoy their music video for the song I Need You, and any of the solo music videos from Agust D, but especially the trilogy of Daechwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala. Those might be the most movie like music videos I have ever seen. Wildflower by RM also has a visually stunning video.

This was filmed in an actual theater once called the Million Dollar Theater, located in downtown LA. Created for theatre impresario Sid Grauman as his first Los Angeles venue, the 1918 Million Dollar Theatre was one of the earliest and largest movie palaces in the country, boasting 2,345 seats. Over the years it has been used for multiple movies and music videos.

Respectfully, this was filmed at the Los Angeles Theatre in downtown LA on South Broadway. The stairway in the grand lobby is the dead giveaway. You can also notice the difference in architecture as the LA Theatre matches the French baroque style in the video as opposed to the Spanish colonial of the million dollar theatre.

I've tried to reply to your comment twice but apparently KZbin no longer allows links in the comment section... Your information is incorrect. Black Swan WAS NOT filmed at the Million Dollar Theater. It was filmed at the Los Angeles Theatre. These are two different theatres in two different locations. You can google both websites. None of the pictures on the Million Dollar site match the rooms in the video while pictures on the Los Angeles Theatre site will verify that this is the correct location by the staircase in the lobby, RM's filmed in the Ballroom and Jin filmed in the Ladies Room. The stage pictures are unmistakable. Also Wikipedia verifies the filming location as the Los Angles Theatre.

Black Swan is inspired by a quote: “A dancer dies twice. The first time is when he stops dancing and this first death is much more painful” by a choreographer Martha Graham. “Black swan” is about their fear that some day they’ll lose their passion for music and this would be their first death. the small guy with swag is suga and i would definitely recommend his solo "Daechwita" As for Next BTS song "ON" will be amazing

I'm not even interested in music, yet I have listened to a lot of artists, bands, or any music acts around the world regardless of their language or popularity. So technically I have listened to a lot of different kinds of Western & Eastern music regardless of genre, whether it's pop, hip-hop, R&B, Rock, ballads, EDM, metal, etc. Whether they are a group or soloist. Yet very very very few has ever moved me. Which is kinda disappointing. Which of course includes BTS, back then I've only heard their popular songs so of course I only thought they're pretty generic and overrated. However, ever since I've actually came across and listened to their actual music, and UNDERSTOOD them. It turned my life upside down. I never thought Music can be this powerful.

After Black Swan, many reactors do their song On, which is from the same album. On has two music videos The Kinetic Manifesto Film, which is just a choreography video with no scene changes and which I recommend to most people because the choreography for On is so intense. But also the regular music video which I think is a better recommendation for you. It only has a small bit of choreography in it, but the cinematography is insane. I actually feel a little bad for BTS, because they obviously spent the big bucks on the movie like music video, but the simple kinetic manifesto video has way more views.

This is the MV that sent me toppling down the rabbit hole (and made Jimin - blue hair - my bias because I love contemporary dance). One of the things I love about this MV is that someone involved knows how to light dance. It's a specific skill and they really got it. It wouldn't have worked nearly as well without that. And it wasn't just placement. It was how they worked with the color temperature, switching from cool to warm. I know it's probably not the case here although the warm moments have the appearance, but back when I did lighting, one of my favorite ways to light dance was to not use gel. Simply manipulate the color temperature with the lamp level. Anyway, once I watched the MV enough, I really dug into the lyrics and was blown away. And then it was all over. Best rabbit hole ever. 😃 Loved your reaction!

Watching someone who knows video enjoy Black Swan is so satisfying. It's a gorgeous video... made by someone who really, really loves light. I really loved when they surprised you with the angled choreography, the asymmetry when you were expecting symmetry. Love seeing a pro being surprised, that moment is so special. BTS doesn't just restore faith in music, they go a good long ways toward restoring faith in humanity. They're good people. Your shorter swaggier homie is Suga. To make things more complicated, he's also Agust D when he's a soloist. His real name is Min Yoongi and we often call him Yoongi to refer to both stage names. He is pretty much the king of swag, you're reading him right. If you do his trilogy of videos... You'll really enjoy them. That's Daechwita, Haegeum, Amygdala. The first two are cinematic, basically very short movies. The third is a very different but seriously perfect (in my opinion) work of art. I also think you'd love Jimin's Set Me Free pt 2 video. It's a dance performance video but... Honestly probably unlike anything you've ever seen. I think it's really powerful and would love to see you react to it, especially because you love the dancing and Jimin really shows off in it.

I believe your ‘shorter swaggy homie’ is Yoongi, stage name in bts is Suga, solo alter ego Agust D. He was the one you liked and pointed out his swag in blood, sweat and tears. His solo mv’s are very much like mini movies, and visually gorgeous. He not only writes and produces his own music but comes up with the concepts and storylines for his videos. I would like to recommend another bts mv which I think you’ll like that is very different from what you have seen which is Save Me. It’s done with one shot, outside on a barren looking field, with the members moving in and out of frame, and the camera moving around, while in a choreographed routine. There’s also a behind the scenes of how it was shot too.

As a visual storyteller you really should look into the stories and meanings behind the songs and MVs as there is so much storytelling going on in those dope shots you enjoy. This song is about their fear of falling out of love with their art and was written during a period where they felt very burned out. They talk about feeling trapped, under pressure, in the dark, and about how it would be like a death for them. At rhe start they are on the stage with a large negative space above them, echoing the later lyrics about being stuck on the ocean floor, feet dragging, which is also illustrated in the choreography happening when those lines are sung. The black and white themes, and the swan wings call back the Black Swan theme, which is both a refernce to the ballet/movie and to the notion of a Black Swan, which means a rare and negative event. The corsets on Jimin and Jungkook illustrate the theme of being constricted or under pressure. The shadows represent their fears, large, looming and animated at the start and growing more under their control towards the end. There is more but thats a few highlights.

ARMY has a saying that "BTS finds you when you most need them." I think you're going to be further proof of that. A couple side notes for you: Shorter Swag Master is: Suga aka AGUST D (for his solo works) real name Min Yoongi. He has several solo works and a few solo music videos. AGUST D, Give It to Me, Deschwita, Haegeum, and Amygdala. The blue haired guy: Park Jimin. His dancing background is nothing short of phenomenal. The types of dance he's studied range from street style pop n lock/b boying to contemporary to ballet and a few styles in between. He also incorporates tumbling and martial arts movements (black belt in taekwondo, 8 years of hapkido and other mixed martial arts) into his choreography. He also has solo works: Set Me Free PT 2 and Like Crazy All members have solo music, and solo songs within the band itself. I've only shared the solo works separate from BTS. The BTS music videos I would like to see you react to are on opposite ends of the spectrum: Save Me (simple, one shot style) and ON: Kinetic Manifesto (It's also a single location, but it's overflowing with EVERYTHING)

Black Swan was the 1st BTS video I saw. The music, lyrics, dance, and video is entrancing. I am glad you have not fallen into the trap of asking "who is the Justin Timberlake" meaning which member is the star with all the other members playing supporting roles. When all 7 members perform a song, they all have fairly equal roles. Unlike Western groups, BTS sings can feature all 7, just the 3 rappers, ie just the 4 vocalist. The BTSbalbums have themes that all the songs relate to. There are solos on the albums but that solo has to serve the overarching theme of the album. Lastly, they have totally solo projects. I believe that the group can stay together because they have so many opportunities to perform different genres and solos.and group songs.

Most are saying that the guy you were talking about as the Swag dude, is Suga, though according to when you stopped the video the last person to do their part was actually Jhope, Suga jad just started his, and barely so. But either way, all of BTS is absolutely amazing, without a doubt!💜 But speaking about jhope and Suga, they are both part of the rapline. They are both incredible and have a lot of swag, but in their own very unique ways. For me mostly I would probably put swag associated with Suga more. Suga's delivery just often just pulls me right in. And he definitely seems to give off this down to earth, straight forward, swaggy feel. Jhope, I would say je is a bit harder to put just one word on to discribe him, especially when performing. Well, to start, jhope is our Dance/Performance Leader. He was a well known dancer in certain parts of South Korea even before joining BigHit and BTS. Bit I don't want to tell you too much because if you eatch Taylor's Guide to the Members, that many people, including myself, have recommended you will learn a lot of this first hand. But anyways... Jhope is our 👑 King of Performance! His stage presence is just insane, and I was told very early on after first becoming Army, that apparently at BTS's concerts, jhope's performance and stage presence is just as incredible if not more so, right there live in person. More specifically, I was told no matter who your bias is when you go to the concert, jhope will be your bias by the time you leave☺️ Sadly, haven't been able to go to any of their concerts yet. But I truly hope and pray to be able to go to one of their concerts and than I can find out for myself!! *Will always be OT7 first and foremost though!💜💜💜 -Thank you for the reaction!

As well as videography you also seem to love dance so you will love the dance practice for this. There is also a couple of behind the scenes shooting sketches for this. One of the m/v and one for just Jimin on his own I think. (LUMPENS produced many BTS videos) It is easy to transition between BTS dance scenes as they dance so precisely, if it wasn't for hair or clothes changing, you wouldn't know. You can see this if you watch a 'stage mix' where they mash together 2 or 3 BTS stage performances and they mesh perfectly, despite being different performances.💜

I laughed so much at your nickname for SUGA - “my short, swaggier homie” haha. ARMY sometimes also refers to him as “our lil cat rapper” - and yea, he’s fine with the nicknames 😂 When you talked about losing hope in your favorite genres of music - rap and hip hop - I think its extremely fortunate that you found BTS. Their roots are in hip-hop as they were originally going to be a hip hop group. Over their ten years (so far) they’ve done a multitude of genres, but their early albums and a lot of their solo stuff is firmly rooted in hip hop and rap. I was never a person who explored those genres because I figured they weren’t for me, and a lot of what I found I couldn’t relate to. But getting to know BTS and especially the three rappers - SUGA, RM (tall rapper guy) and J-Hope, I really have embraced the genres and even discovered other amazing artists through them. For SURE if you are a rap fan, check out the rapline solos and subunit songs. SUGA goes by Agust D in his solo work - Anthony has already told you about some of his songs and you are going to absolutely be blown away by his music videos. He has a lot to do with the concepts and ideas behind them and they are some of the most beautifully shot, movie-like MVs I have ever seen. If you react to them, do all three together if you can - “Daechwita”, “Haegeum” and then “Amygdala” in that order. The story is going to confuse you at first, but ARMY will help you out in the comments. It all boils down to SUGA (Agust D, Yoongi) battling the darker aspects of himself across these MVs. RM has two solo mixtapes and a solo album Indigo with two beautiful MVs. J-Hope released Jack in the Box and his videos for Arson and More are really cool, too - plus a collab with J Cole called On the Street that I’ve always felt has beautiful, beautiful colors, but I think you’ll also enjoy his other solo MVs “Ego” and “Daydream”. There’s just So. Much. Stuff. So many videos. For a group song, maybe try “On” next. I think you’ll appreciate both the original MV (very cinematic) and the Kinetic Manifesto film (more performance based). And also, while the SONG “Boy With Luv” may not be your thing (it’s very happy poppy cute) I think the MV may interest you as it is an homage to classic Hollywood (specifically “Singing in the Rain”) and the colors are beautiful in it. Either way I’m here for your journey!

There is so much beauty in their performances and in their message. Your insight into the awesomeness of their music videos is a valuable addition to enjoyment of them. I’m a fan of you pausing to analyze them. I’ve watched them dozens of times, so I’m not bothered by the pauses. And if I want to watch them uninterrupted, it’s easy to get the originals on ytube. You’ve picked a good assortment of vids to cover so far. For some more of a hip-hop vibe you might want to go back o some of their earlier vids like “Danger” or “NO”. Or for some moving imagery, check out “Spring Day.” There’s a tragic story behind it. If you want to learn more about the members, there are dozens of Getting to Know, type thing on YTube. There are also some good “Making of” background vids there. I hope you will continue on your BTS journey.

Do Daechwita by Agust D (suga from bts) without even listening to the lyrics there's a great set and a story being told visually as he plays both the villain power character and the peasant on the ground. Arson by J-hope is so simplistic but the slow escalation from swaggy psychotism into subtle chaos, into after math into this is where it started visually to ownership of what I've done, also visually is lovely. Save me: is a one shot video. I think it's very simple but just the idea of the amount of everyone needs to constantly run n know their positions along with navigating not hitting the camera man and spotter to make it work is also something to appreciate. I like your angle. I watch enough reactors going deep into lyrics n lore n you catch enough to get the gist of it but I understand where your passion lies. This song was inspired by a quote n I'm paraphrasing " A dancer dies two deaths, the day they can no longer dance and their actual death, the first death is more painful" BTS talks about in relation to music because it's their art form. But your art passion is videography (sorry if I buggered that). Imagine waking up one day n nothing impresses you or inspires you anymore visually. What a horrible death that would be. 'Do Thang, do your Thang with me now (dance, art, visual arts, music, writing, cooking, baking heck even nail art 😂. Do you passion but.... for moment, consider the day, if ever' that passion suddenly dies. Much love from South Africa 🇿🇦

BTS is exciting. They are amazing live as well. Hope you'll check out live performances at some point. Also the dance practices. You get to truly appreciate their choreo that way. Tall rappy dude is RM. The guy with the Swag is Suga. Check out BTS "I Need You"

Suga aka Agust D solo videos are great Jimin the dancer released his solo album Face, but his stage performance of Filter, Lie and Serendipity are great. His music video of set me free part 2 and Like Crazy. All are different and unique

I was pretty discouraged when it came to music. I love listening to good music, but for a while, it seemed as if recording artists refused to break the mold and show their personal creativity. BTS was my cure. I listened to their music, but my daughter started me watching their videos. My first reaction was....😲. I'm a proud 55-year-old African-American, old R&B, Army!! I'm so proud that my boys decided to do their duty and enlist. I can't wait for 2025!

I am 61 years old had stopped listening to pop and rap. It just was not the same as it was before when the songs had meaning and lyrics were written by poets. I am new Army and BTS brought me back. I was lucky enough to see Agust-D in the Oakland concert and it was an amazing performance.

I see they've moved you deeply Mr. Sparks. They have an uncanny way of shaking people, like nobody else can. Your comments about them bringing their all into everythibg they do, is very intuituve of you to say that. They only offer up , top tier entertainment, of the highest production value & authentic artistry, for consumption. Park Jimin, blue hair, is a born dancer. His focus, is modern & interpretive dance. Black Swan is a work of true art & emotional output.

If you are wanting to see something a little bit more “simple” but also very impressive, I would suggest their MV for “Save Me”. I put quotes around “simple” because it’s not as flashy as their other music videos, but I think you’ll be impressed by the videography. You’ll see when you watch - NO SPOILERS, y’all!

ARMY has a saying. “BTS finds you when you need them the most” don’t become jaded. BTS actually loves music, and their labels Moto is Music for healing.

They have a LOT of Music Videos to watch, they even have behind-the-scenes :) Black Swan is my favorite MV and Dance Practice video, their synchronicity is insane! Thank you for reacting to Black Swan :) Side note, they are so good in doing transitions they are even doing a lot of it live.

Jungkook is in the balancy of the Theatre at the end. It's a complete threatre with drama studio with a dance floor and mirrors, entrance huge stair case. It'll have all the function room's with a extremely posh bar area for champagne drinks before the performance etc etc.

Some other mvs that I think are cool by BTS: and members: I NEED U, DNA, Not Today, Amygdala, Daechwita, Haegeumm , Airplane, Wildflower, Set Me Free Pt. 2, Joke, and for fun, check out their very first music video where they had no budget but lots of dreams-No More Dream. There are plenty of others but these are the ones that came to mind right away. Oh and ARSON too.

Next I’d suggest BTS’s On Kinetic Manifesto 💜 Also, swaggy lil rapper is Suga aka Agust d, I’d highly recommend his solo work. Starting with Daechwita I also think you’d love deep diving BTS’s rap line stuff🤌 I suggest starting with my fav tracks Ddaeng & Ugh! Neither has a music video, but there are subtitled performances. And the word play is insane I always enjoy when reactors pair them with lyric analysis videos, the DKDKTV ones are good.

I’m enjoying your reactions. BTS (and K-pop in general) pull out all the stops for their music videos. Some of them are very elaborate sets & some almost stark. There are nearly always behind the scenes videos which give a hint of how the MVs are shot.

When you check out the Agust D (SUGA backwards preceded by Dt for "Daegu Town" his rap crew in his hometown of Daegu before joining BTS--... the swaggy guy) trilogy set of MVs... I HIGHLY recommend doing all three at once, even if you upload them at different times. First is "Daechwita" (an ancient style of Korean traditional music played when royalty or the royal military were marching through to let the people know), followed by "Haegeum" (a traditional Korean two-stringed instrument and it also means breaking-away-from or liberation), and the third is "Amygdala", which ties all three together and is autobiographical. All are amazing MVs on their own, but the layers and depth that they reach together is unrivaled.

Jimin is the blue hair dancer. He’s trained in modern dance, hip hop, ballet, Taekwondo, Kendo, and Chinese martial arts. He was top at his arts high school in dance, joining BTS while he was still in school. ARMYs will encourage you to watch Guide to BTS by Taylor. You might think-naaww- but ARMYs will watch it with you. Everyone comes out saying-wait-it’s over-that was fast, because their story is so interesting and inspiring-plus, you will know their names and who they are, at least 80-90%, because you see them over and over with different hair/looks and individually. Plus, the appreciation for not just their art, but their character, will win you over a hundred fold. I lost my faith in music/videos/character until I found BTS. My heart sunk when you said it, because I totally understood what you meant. It was like a desert with mirages, and then you find a 💦spring 💦 Honestly, it’s inspiring.

The song is about a performer “ first death” when they loose the passion or ability to perform…Even athletes can relate to it

I would suggest either "On" (came out before Covid started) or "No" (goes way back - 2013). "No" has amazing visuals even though the boys are young, you can see the talent. "On" is titled "Kinetic Manifesto Film: Come Prima" so the visuals are meant to blow you away. Plus, BTS has hit their stride and provide an amazing ride.

At some point I'd recommend watching A guide to BTS members: The Bangtan 7. It shows their start from literally nothing, to the success they've achieved today, despite the odds. Amazingly well done video. As far as the next music video, I'd say ON KInetic Manifesto.

I'm glad you liked this video! I was pretty sure you would. It's in such a beautiful location! Jimin (blue hair) is probably the best of the group at modern dance, he really stands out here. The shorter, swag rapper is Suga (aka Agust D) while the tall rapper is RM (aka Namjoon). Namjoon is the leader of the group and basically who the group was built around.
@ktredmane120911 ай бұрын
Love hearing your perspectives! For killer videos, recommend Jimin's (blue hair incredible dancer) Set Me Free Part 2 and the Agust D (Suga, swag personified) trilogy Daechwita/Haegeum/Amygdala and . . . so many more. Enjoy!

The blue hair that was Jimin he's the one with the extremely high singing voice and has deep growl also. He's was the top student at the Busan School of arts. He's trained in Comtemporary Dance, Hip Hop dance, even does Traditional Fan Dance and is hightly skilled in more than one form of Martial Arts so he put's all that together as a dancer. You have to see him do aireal flips and kicks he's extremely supple and very strong.
