*Meanings for the song titles* *Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.) *Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden. *Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future. My own thoughts on Agust D's Triology: Yoongi has shared his mental health issues with us since the beginning, and he stated how some of his roughest times were in the early days, like from 2014 to 2016, how he developed social anxiety at age 18, he was dealing with depression and OCD. BTS had hate coming at them from all angles, and it took a toll on them in the early years. So hearing all the other things he was dealing with as well, just puts things into perspective. He's such a strong person. In the making video, he said the scars we create are of our own making. So the best way for him to represent that was the way that he did with the scar on his face. And the medicine he took was for his condition. He talked about how he saw a psychiatrist and his parents went with him, and they said they didn't know who he was anymore. This was in "The Last" from his first mixtape Agust D. He said how could anyone know him when he doesn't know himself, so that phrase "I don't know your name" made sense to me. Looking back at repressed memories. Thankfully he got through all of it, and now is healed to a certain degree. I see the rain as a shift., He also talked about "What doesn't kill you make you stronger", and he is now blooming like a lotus flower. The lotus flower is very resilient, and can grow in mud and water, like on a lake or pond. So I see the rain as cleansing, and healing. He also said in the behind the scenes on Daechwita, that the mad King was the Agust D from his first Mixtape in 2016, and the peasant was from his 2020 mixtape D-2. You can see the scar is very raw in that video on both of them, maybe slightly less for the 2020 Agust D. In Haegeum, i interpret it as Agust D from 2020 is the Police detective/corrupt Boss, with the partially healed scar, and the Agust D that kills, and steals the money with no scar is D-Day Agust D. The one that is mostly healed and is talking about freedom. (Do we ever completely heal from our scars?) In an interview with IU, and in the D-Day film, he talks about how he was very angry and now he has forgiven the haters and is living in the present. So his music moving forward may not have the angry vibe that we have seen in the past. But he is definitely not done yet Finally, Yoongi went on a world tour, after this album was released, and at the Final concert, he was very emotional, and had his BTS Bros. and his PEERS there with him. On a couple occasions, ARMY's sang the parts because he was so emotional he couldn't sing. And at the very end, the door he couldn't go through in this Music Video is on the stage, and he's able to walk through now. That tells me that he has healed and accepted those parts of himself, and he can move forward and let go now. You could see the relief on his face and the love as he waved good bye and closed the door. EPIC MOMENT. I was actually able to attend his show in Oakland, California, May 17, 2023. It was an awesome concert. My daughter and I went. I'm 57, she's 32. We had a blast. I'd love to request another Agust D song. This one is on his D-Day album, and it's called SNOOZE. One of my very favorite songs. Agust D (feat. Riuchi Sakamoto & Woosung) Snooze Eng. subs - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHSxopesh56Yldk

Suga (aka Agust D) has suffered greatly with mental health. Mental Health is a no no topic in South Korea but BTS talk, rap and sing about it and it's personal. He wrote, composed, and Produced them all he also wrote the story boards for the MV's.

@@vmj7366 the country is suffering a major mental health crisis precisely because it was and still is a no no topic. And if we're on the subject, we have some famous k pop idols who committed suicide because of mental health issues, I think the most tragic for me was Shinee's Jong-Hyun. And, not to sound too fangirling, but a lot of the improvements in mental health in SK exist due to BTS stepping away from just the general bubbly funny and light concept of K-pop and writing about serious issues, like mental health precisely. Therefore, you may not love all their melodies but the lyrics man... The lyrics hit hard. Fake love, Black Swan, Spring Day, Magic Shop, I could go on and on about lyrics that talk about some mental health issues...

So...this trilogy is complex and deep. But essentially this is a mental health saga of Yoongi battling his own traumas. He plays dual roles in all three MVs, as a "Good" aspect and a "Bad" aspect. The scar represents his trauma as he considers it a self-inflicted wound due to not being able to deal with and process all the bad things that happened in his life, such as his mental health struggles with anxiety, social anxiety, OCD and depression, his self harm, his mother and father's life threatening illnesses, his accident that nearly ended his career when he was still a trainee and led to living secretly with, and managing the pain of, his shattered shoulder for 7 years before finally getting surgery to rebuild it, his other near death experiences like his burst appendix when they were on tour, as well as not getting enough love as a child, his parents being adamantly opposed to his music career, etc In a nutshell - in the first song, Daechwita (Daych-whi-Tah with a very soft w) he is battling and killing his rage and paranoia represented by the paranoid and bloodthirsty mad king who is blonde like Yoongi in BTS early years. The scar of his trauma is fresh on the mad king and more healed on the peasant Agust D. In Haegeum (Hay-gum) he is battling his greed in the form of the corrupt detective. The detective is the peasant Agust D from Deachwita, but the scar is even more healed, while the current Agust D doesn't have the scar at all. In both Deachwita and Haegeum, the supporters of the enemies (the mad king and the corrupt detective) switch sides in a coup and become ARMY, supporting Agust D instead. Also, in both MVs he has 6 guys behind him, representing his brothers in BTS. In Amygdala, we are inside his mind, his Amygdala, the center for storage of memory and trauma, getting the origin story of his trauma wounds. Here he is at his most raw and vulnerable, his shadow self. It is not uncommon for BTS to share these raw, vulnerable and very personal stories with us when they are either ready to work through them or have moved past them. So just as he is working past all of it, this is the story of how the trauma he has been working to heal all these years, and sharing about in much of his music, was created. Here he plays the traumatized and dark shadow self, as well as a dark observer, who sits in the corner eating almonds, a reference to a book of the same name about trauma and the approximate shape of the Amygdala itself, and he plays Yoongi, the artist, the one trying to break himself free of the traumas outside the door. I left out many details but some things to note: A Daechwita is played for the coming of the King or Army or a Changing of the Guard. The executioner with the large sword who cuts his bonds instead of his head and gives him the gun, is the same person as the street butcher that peasant Agust D shares a nod and a look with on the street scene. He kills the mad king in Daechwita with a Colt ARMY model revolver, representing the strength he found in ARMY. A Haegeum is a two stringed traditional Korean instrument played with a bow which you can hear in the start of the song, but also means the breaking of a ban/freedom from what was forbidden. So here it means a shedding of the greed for money, clout, titles of genre limitations, and all of the trappings of success and limited thinking, in exchange for just embracing the identity of 'Artist.' This is similar in meaning to RMs songs Still Life and Wild Flower. Also, the two red chopsticks we focus on repeatedly in the MV represent his music, like the two strings on a Haegeum. He both slays his enemies and feeds himself with his music. In Amygdala the accident presented is a very PG version of his actual accident. On his world tour, the final show the same door appeared as from Amygdala and he smiled and waved and walked through it at the end of the show, telling ARMY he has moved past these traumas now. If you like their more aggressive Hip Hop try their Cypher Series (1-4), Outro: Tear, Ddaeng, Baepsae, Intro: Boy Meets Evil, Interlude: Shadow, Dope, UGH!, Respect, Outro: Ego, Ma City, Mic Drop, and their first 4 albums: 2 cool 4 Skool, O!RUL8,2?, Skool Luv Affair and Dark & Wild. Or try any other solo work of the other rappers. They have 8 albums between the three of them. (Edit) 9 solo albums now from the rap line, with j-hope's brand new release! Bringing the total to 12 solo albums from BTS members. (Second Edit! Now 10 solo albums from the rap line with RMs new masterpiece, making it 13 total solo albums from BTS members so far, and 20 group albums.)

Hey! I just wanted to comment something I really appreciate about you that might seem weird at first but hear me out: I love that you straight out tell your opinion. Whether you like it or not, and that you don't have to like everything an artist puts out. Also, that you research some stuff on your own. This might seem obvious, but the majority of 'music reaction channels' on youtube just cater to the audiences opinions. They lie and pretend, don't research anything on their own and ask their followers every single thing even if its just one google search away. It is just crazy superficial. I AM a BTS fan, but I am also a music fan. I enjoy when people give me their honest opinion on something, even if it's just about their personal taste! I know they are not perfect at all and they try different genre so its logical that we all like or dislike different things (thats the most interesting) I hope you keep your videos this way! I'm in a similar place as you in learning BTS' music and really, what they have to say - which is a lot. What I understand and what really, really speaks to me, as an Asian American, is their ongoing theme of duality that runs through much of their high concept work. And you see it here in AgustD's powerful trilogy. The contrast musically of traditional vs the new. The old/younger self vs the new/wiser self. Materialism vs. Idealism. Now, even in Jung Kook's single work - which is just straight up fun, fresh, pop music - you are hearing discourse around yet another facet of duality with a Korean singing in English in a larger, international scope. What I feel about BTS is that on the surface, you can listen and love their music, yes, certainly. But, you can also dive in deeper and hear so, so, much more.

Perfectly stated. There is so so so much more. What made me fall like deep love is when I watched Blood Sweat and Tears and had to read Damien to understand the themes. Like what pop band has me reading literature and educating myself to understand their music? Then I found out about the BU and then I was like ok I’m hooked. Not to mention the duality also is prevalent in who they are as individuals. Each of them has duality and it’s beautiful to see.

Just going to mention that as others have said he produces his own songs. In fact on Haegum he’s the only one credited for writing production etc. The way he uses traditional instruments and musical styles mixed with a modern beat that feels fresh and also as a metaphor in the songs meaning is genius. He also writes his own story boards so this big cinematic idea is all him. He is so dang cool and I think the most intense of the members. All 3 songs live were amazing. Daechwita is hype and the whole audience screams the place down same with Haegum. Amgydala is pure emotion and he plays guitar singing it live. His last show he cried through much of Amgydala in one of the most emotional performances I’ve ever seen. But he finally walks through the door free of his past.

In Deachwita, the King is supposed to represent Suga's (Agust D's) past self, who was holding on to a lot of anger and greed. Suga explains this himself in the behind the scenes footage. Even the king's blond hair is a nod to Suga's blond hair from the era of his previous mixtape. The lower-class Suga represents his present self who now has everything he wanted and realizes how dangerous his greed can be (notice how the King becomes more and more unhinged throughout the MV) and decides to put a stop to it. The lyrics in the bridge sum up the main theme of this song really well: "I got everything I ever wanted.... .....Yeah, what's next Here comes my reality check There's nowhere higher I only looked up and now I want to look down And put my feet on the ground." There's so much more to the Deachwita MV, tons of clever historical references and easter eggs. I'm sure other ARMYs will help out in the comments. 😁 Thanks for checking out BTS and for giving your honest opinions. 💜

Thank you for giving BTS a second thought. You were quite skeptical in the beginning. Yes, their English songs are very “poppy”, we get it. There is so much more to this group and I’m glad you’re checking them out. I honestly thought you’d just say “No, thank you”, and turn away. I hardly gave rap a second chance. Much of it just sounded like noise. I love the rap I’ve discovered with BTS! All three rappers have drawn me in with their style and lyrics! Turns out this music is good for the soul. And another point, people who may be suffering some kind of trauma and/or instability won’t always show it. People can put on a mask to hide what they’re going through so it won’t burden others. Suffer in silence. There may be people around you with depression and you wouldn’t see it. Anyway, keep going! BTS has much to offer!

The meanings of BTS songs are not always simple to understand. They use metaphors, literary references, Korean slang, historical references, etc. So for a foreigner or non-Korean speaker you really need a little help. There are whole channels dedicated to analyzing BTS songs. The 2 main ones are: DKDKTV and Bookish Theories. You should also know that: 1)their albums are thematic and built around a concept. They generally have 2 or 3 albums in series around aspects of the same concept. Watching their MVs in order will help you have a greater understanding. 2)their MVs also have a separate storyline running through them. This storyline is called the Bangtan Universe or BU. I mention this because Fake Love (which you mentioned) has a lot of storyline imagery in it. Sorry. This is probably TMI

Each member of BTS has their own universe, apart from their group songs, you can discover the world of each of them, personally I love them all, you can start with V's album "layover" very jazzy whose MVs also tell a story. There is also Jungkook's album "Golden" which is rather pop from the 80s with a beautiful tribute to Mickael Jackson to read between the lines, with very artistic and graphic MVs. Jimin's album "Face" is a real pop gem , hip hop and R&B, with a very specific universe to the one whose voice is close to that of the angels, the album "Indigo" by RM the leader of the group, a rap full of poetry, depth and creativity, the J hope album "jack in the box", a dark and committed rap and so high quality! finally jin's solo song released just before his departure for military service as a gift to fans.

Alright so I will try to explain the Meaning of each song for you: DAECHWITA: Daechwita is actually a traditional Korean musical genre born in the late Joseon dynasty, which used to be performed in royalty processions, was characterized by including wind instruments and percussion. Today it continues to be used on special occasions and for military purposes. Daechwita by Agust-D, is a representation of Suga’s constant battle against himself and how the desire to achieve his dreams have given him the courage to do everything to achieve being on top, and the emptiness he feels even now when he has everything he wants. Dachwita’s MV references parts of Korean culture as well. Set in a royal palace, the video sees Agust D take on two opposing characters. He is a humble boy who represents the Korean people and is also the king. Yoongi faces himself in an endless battle, his revolutionary and humble side against the powerful, cruel and dangerous part of his personality. Daechwita gives a powerful message about being proud of our roots, of being able to become what we most want despite adversity. At the same time, the dark side of power is also made clear, where having what we most wanted is sometimes not enough. HAEGEUM: The word “haegeum” has different meanings in Korean. It describes a traditional Korean instrument (which can be heard in the instrumentals of the track), but it can also mean the lifting of a ban/prohibition. “This song is a haegeum”, he raps, and later adds: “bustling rhythm, maybe would also be another haegeum ”. The “haegeum” is the instrument for the liberation, the song itself is both the sound and its intent, the medium and the message. Then Agust D goes on rapping about wanting to provide means for people (himself included) to liberate themselves from all that’s restraining them. Interestingly enough, he even addresses liberation from (supposed) freedom of expression, by questioning how much freedom there really is in it. When he raps “A flood of information prohibits the freedom of imagination”, it’s hard not to think of McLuhan’s definition of hot media, that is, the type of media that is “low in participation” and “completion by the audience”. And even more interestingly, Yoongi raps about liberation by calling shots that could backfire on himself. He calls out the “slaves to KZbin” on a track whose very release was done through a KZbin video. He criticizes the “slaves to capitalism” and “slaves to money” while being himself a pop star that uses all the tools that corporate media provides to make money and encourage the consumption of a handy of products. He’s part of the same system he describes as flawed in “Haegeum”. Of course he is. If he wasn’t, this song wouldn’t even exist in the first place - the very Agust D persona was created so Yoongi could address these issues more throughout. Would be it hypocritical or ironic that Agust D points out patterns that apply even to himself and to BTS? BTS does release a lot of stuff (from music to content to all sorts of products). Are they flooding their fans with information to cage them into consumer loyalty? Maybe yes, maybe no, it’s up to the fan to say it. If being a BTS fan brings any sort of pressure or restriction for somebody, then the verse “This song is a haegeum / Get on it now” might be for them. In “Haegeum”, Yoongi is claiming his awareness of being an endorser and a slave of the things he disagrees with (“All those controversies cause confusion in judgment / What would it be that restricted us? / Would it be possible that we did it ourselves”, he raps). Agust D is both an addition to the system and an answer to it - like any other medium. It’s proof of how the human need for freedom of expression cannot be encapsulated in one medium or message only. AMYGDALA: To better understand this track, one must first understand the amygdala’s function in the brain. This region of our minds is mostly responsible for handling emotional processes and regulating those emotions, but it also plays a role in encoding memory, particularly when memories have a highly emotional component. Putting it simply, when a remembrance has a strong emotional impact on an individual, be it positive or negative, the amygdala stores that information so that in the future, those memories can aid the person to recognize a setting or event that is similar or elicits the same emotions, and inform their decisions. Of course, this effort is futile. Favoring emotion over logic, the amygdala can never respond to rational pleas to forget, even if sometimes memories cause more harm than good. Despite it all, though, the artist also reflects on how none of these situations were able to keep him down for good. In his song, when faced with the recollection of his mother’s heart surgery, his father’s cancer diagnosis, and his own road accident, Agust D pleads directly with his own brain, his amygdala, to let him forget the painful memories he’s evoking. Despite how important his region of our minds is for survival, and how much it works to protect us from threats by aiding our fight-or-flight responses, the rapper would just rather erase all his most negative memories to live in blissful ignorance. “My amygdala, save me from here. Hurry and get me out,” he says. “AMYGDALA” concludes the Agust D trilogy series by revealing the origins of Agust D’s scar, which can be seen in both the “Daechwita” and “Haegeum” music videos. Suga can be seen in “AMYGDALA” sitting on a couch in a dark room. As he sits down, he uses a pocket blade to self-inflict the scar above his eye. Suga addresses the direction of the story for the music video in his Disney+ documentary, Road to D-Day. When referring to the “AMYGDALA” story, he explains, “This is the story of my life, you know. Before I reached the age of 20, I’d already had a lot of things going on in my life. I really want to talk about how I got the scar over my eye in this song. In a way, we’re responsible for all our own wounds and scars.” HOPE THIS HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND THE TRILOGY WAY BETTER :) you can also watch explained videos for each song on youtube by DKDKTV or Bookish Theories Channels. Every BTS Member is a deep thinker and has a lot of beautiful stories in their songs you just have to open your mind even more and you will understand. Thank you for your reaction Okay so basically the first one was a kind of diss track to people who were disrespecting him and bts to put it in basic terms but there is so much more to it so I highly recommend you watch the explanation video that has been recommended. The second one (I can never remember how its spelled) is in basic terms again about how people should let other people have freedom but also people should know difference between freedom and self indulgence while being mindful to find their own beliefs not subscribe to everything you see online or in the world. amygdala is easier to understand its about his accident that injured his shoulder pre debut and how that left him in a very dark place with everything that was going on in his life at the time. if you'd like these I would recommend reacting to the last you'll have to pull up the lyrics video. There is no official video for but it is worth checking out I'm not even sure if he meant to do this but side note where he's crawling on the ground up of the incline in the ring unable to get out or to even reach the door to try but is still me trying to free himself is exactly what having anxiety and depression feels like.

Amygdala is a prequel to the other two. He shows us how he got the scar. He mentions that the scars we have in life are made by us. So Daechwita has a very scarred Yoongi fighting his two personas. Haegeum has one with a nearly healed scar and the other with no scar. In his final D-Day concert Yoongi goes through that white door to the other side. He's healed now

Not fact at all. The Korean royal family name is Yi, and has been since the beginning of the Joseon dynasty. This song breaks me every time I hear it. Suga's painful young years left him with major depression issues to the point of suicide. He has said that he was saved by the strong bond of the BTS members. The brotherhood they formed is partly reponsible for their success. The pressure of this industry is very hard on the mental and physical health, so they were their own sopport group. You should watch some of their documentaries to get to know them.

AMYGDALA is in some ways a conclusion of whats happening in Daechwita and Haegeum. AMYGDALA is really the real reflection of what Suga had been through in life, Its a biographical song a life story of Suga. This is not the first time Suga being vocal and honest about himself, in his song THE LAST which pretty intensed but very raw, so vulnerable that he unmasked himself his true feelings and emotion. Its a very powerful song. And so his song SHADOW oh my gosh most of his songs are just so deep and make sense but he is also very upfront and have no hesitation to fight back to those people who looked down BTS and him especially during the time when they were struggling and trying to make name 10 years ago thats why DAECHWITA , also his banger disstrack AGUST D song born. He is a no non-sense guy nor beating around the bush. His music is a little bit different because it is kind of darker than the rest but it straightforward, honest , laying tge facts and it touch your heart and soul . I miss him so much and will be waiting for him and the rest of the boys when they back in 2025!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Amygdala is Suga/ Agust d life. He went through all of that, he was a delivery man and got hit by a car, and he got his shoulder injured. He continued being a trainee at Big Hit (BTS label) and nobody knew about his shoulder, he needed surgery but didn't have money to pay for it and he was scared that the company would not accept him. Idos needed to dance and his shoulder was an impediment, he suffered from pain all alone. He left his home at a young age, and his parents didn't support his love for music.... You should watch the explanation videos of the trilogy there is a lot more.. BTS has very deep messages, in most of their songs so, fake love has a deeper meaning.

Daechwita is the sound to announce arrival of the leader or military. This video masterpiece is like a Samurai Movie. It’s definitely a Warrior’s story. The crazy emperor represents Ego gone wrong. His traumas (marked by the eye scar…he explains more in ‘Amygdala’) helped create his ego’s survival craziness. The Emperor/Ego beheads those who cross him. Min Yoongi has been open about his emotional and mental health and shared it in his first EP, Agust-D. (‘The Last’) *side note: Min Yoongi royalty in his bloodline: the Yeoheung Min Clan, a very powerful clan during Joseon dynasty. The Pauper is a Rebel representing Suga’s self awareness and growth towards emotional/mental health…first by defeating the negative aspects of his Ego. *Notice that the Rebel also has the same eye scar, indicating that he is the same person as the emperor, but a different aspect. The 6 gang members with the Rebel in the car scene, represent the BTS members who have helped him feel safe and providing a sense of “family”. He was allowed to discover his true self, not only the surviving-self by being with the 6 members as brothers. The banner/scroll that he displays is a copy of Jungkook’s painting of Bang PD, founder and creator of BTS, original CEO of BigHit (production company)…in other words, their leader. The Emperor has the Rebel “captured” and “held hostage”. The Emperor (negative Ego traits) orders him beheaded…removing independent thinking, discernment, or frontal lobe executive thinking …all of which overrides the survival reactions of trauma and the irrational Ego. The Rebel uses a plan (discerning reasoning) and goes through town recruiting help. One of the butchers, in the market, is also the emperor’s executioner. They fake his beheading…and is then provided the weapon to kill the king. **easter egg: as Suga strolls through the market he passes Jin (fisherman) and JK, who have a scuffle with each other after the pass Suga.

I want to point out that the cigarette scene was really throwing in some people hating on V because they thought he was smoking outside at a Vegas concert. I also want to point out that if people would respect their privacy and private lives more then it wouldn't be a big deal. People need to realize that BTS are grown adults with private lives and feelings. Also, Suga is a musical genius, His song represents not only his Korean culture but also his life and what he has gone through plus what as a group they went through. Haegeum - has two meanings. The first is a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at the Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban or release what is forbidden.

Thanks for your reaction to one of my favorite artist. Haegeum it seem is inspired a bit by the Jocker but also by his MV "Daewchita" and I think the movie Scarface In their discography, BTS has already touched on deep themes and psychological themes. For example, in their album Map of the Soul, they were inspired by the theories of Carl Justav Jung, who was one of the most popular psychoanalysts of the 20th century and founder of depth psychology, which is mainly based on what exists between consciousness and the unconscious. Jung coined the "map of the soul" and different concepts to explain it, some of them are archetypes that, as if it were a universe that we carry inside, allow us to draw a map that shows how our psyche is configured (Persona, Ego, Anima and Shadow).. each rapper of BTS has a song for those archetipes (Persona: RM / Shadow: Suga / Ego: Jhope)... And there is the Anima (the feminine aspect present in the collective unconscious of men and the Animus is the masculine aspect present in the collective unconscious of women. In other words, we all have feminine and masculine energy, although one prevails over the other in each individual. So in their MV Boy with Love the feminine energy present in the members is exalted because they have already connected with their Anima and that is why they are "boys with love". On those BTS albums they seek to generate a journey towards the encounter with ourselves and the acceptance of the "I" among them the integration of our polarity, be it feminine or masculine... and for this reason a lot of vibrant tone is used in this video and shades of pink in the color palette of the video) Returning to Haegeum.. here the chief of police is the one who killed the tyrant king in Daewchita, who has now become corrupted with power... For me it symbolizes Suga's shadow, which is in his unconscious mind due to his traumas and which he seeks kill whenever he feels he is taking off and gaining more power... a part of him reveals himself to the re-installation of the tyrant and kills him Suga is well known for his deep lyrics... He usually talks about mental health, self love, self discovery, politics, social issues, reflects about Life and people.. although he does have trash songs for haters (they have received a lot of hate, criticism and even injustice and mistreatment as artists by Korean media trough their career). Please try to pay attention to the lyrics About Amygdala (a region on the brain primarily involved in the processing of emotions and memories associated with fear. Is part of the limbic system within the brain and is key to how we process strong emotions like fear or pleasure. The name amygdala is derived from the Greek word amygdale, meaning “almond,” owing to the structure’s almondlike shape) Much of the video refers to an accident Suga suffered shortly before debuting in 2012 while working as a delivery boy to pay for his studies while he was a Bighit trainee. At first, he told his group members that he had fallen from the stairs, but in reality a car hit him when he was riding his bicycle and he says that after falling he saw that his head was almost under the wheels of the car. Suga did not want to reveal the truth to the agency because he thought they would reject him, after months he had to say it because his shoulder had been dislocated as a result of the accident and did not heal well becaused of lack of treatment and rehabilitation. Eventually he told the company and they paid his treatment and his studies... after debuting, he had injections and therapies for years until he could not postpone his surgery because over time and being an idol with intense choreography, the injury worsened so he underwent surgery for the pandemic and was offstage for about 4 months while he recovered In other songs he's released in the past as Agust D, on mixtapes for Soundcloud, he talks about his depression, social anxiety and panic attacks...I think it's the first time he's commented on his father's cancer... he found out while he was fulfilling his schedule with BTS (which has been very tight and demanding and he probably could not be with his father as long as he would have wanted due to being under contract and his corresponding obligations) When the wound is inflicted on the face, I think it seeks to reflect how it has hurt itself in the past (the mind of a depressed person, we already know that it hurts itself a lot and he mentioned in one of his songs that he have thought about s*u*i*c*i*d*e in the past) and I also think it represents the birth of your alter ego Agust D which would allow him to externalize his shadows in parallel to BTS When he says: I don't know your name, I think he refers to himself... to that shadow in his unconscious mind... in his song "The Last" he mentioned that his father told him they didn't know him... and he commented that if he did not know himself, how would other people would get to know him? and he also mentioned that sometimes he was afraid of himself By the end he is rushing to save himself but he can't open the door, to my is becaused Agust D represents his traumas lodged in the past... and the past cannot be changed 🤔 Although I think that now at this moment he is more at peace with himself, it seems that during the pandemic that shadow returned for a while like many other people who found themselves in a dark place during that period but finally he was able to heal more of his wounds and that is why D-Day arrives (name of his Album and one of his songs) This song is inspired by a book that Yoogi read called "Almond", is about the story of a young man with a disease that prevents him from recognizing and expressing emotions, and which is associated with an undergrowth of the cerebral amygdala, usually the size of an almond. It's a story about growing up, discovering yourself, and accepting that help doesn't always come where we expect it. Suga is his stage name with BTS... Agust D is when he releases solo music (in Kpop the artists.. known as Idols, don't usually curse... Althoug the rap line have broke that rule when they sing solo or as a rap unit) so is his way to separate his public BTS Persona known as Suga, in order to be able to express himself more freely without affecting the image of the group Regards from Mexico

It's great to make comparison, but let's not tell things as facts when they aren't. Suga never said the Joker or Scarface were inspiration for either of those MVs. He never mentions the Joker and then a character from Scarface was inspiration for 'Tony Montana' but not Daechwita. Also, 'Almond' isn't the inspiration of Amgygala. It's one allusion used in the MV, but again, he never said it was 'inspired' by that book. Also, Boy With Luv represents the 'persona', not the 'anima.'

on one side, the first two MVs are like (corrupt) government vs. ordinary people but on the other side of the whole story, it's about SUGA fighting with his old self which is why Daechwita have the contrast of old and modern theme, it's also like a fight within himself to not get swept away by his current status as a member of the biggest group.. kinda like killing this negative idea before it consumes you.. AMYGDALA is actually his life story. the self inflicted scar can represent as is, he tried to harm himself. and he carried that scar as he fought himself through his fame he had another song from 2016 that also talks about his struggles which made us aware of them, but seeing it is on another level. anyway, his first mixtape imo was more brutal than these songs. SUGA was an angry young adult. angry at his old peers from the underground, angry at the kpop system and angry at the people who always belittle BTS. he was blond then that's why the mad king on Daechwita is also blond.. recently, during his promotion for his album, he said that he's not angry anymore and said that he might not produce music as Agust D for a while cause from the start, Agust D was his outlet to express his unfiltered thoughts and anger

It literally took me months to watch the mv for Amygdala cause I knew it mentioned his accident where he hurt his shoulder. Literally sobbed for hours after watching it because it is hard for ARMY to see them suffer plus it was healing and relatable to hear him talk about how these hectic moments make us stronger despite it making us feel weak in the moment. 💔💜

Hi, I saw your other reactions and I want to say here, if you see it, that even though there’s a whole explanation video on Sugma’s lyrics in a different way that many explained the hidden meaning as well, Suga (August -D) doesn’t always go this hard, but I love this trilogy and another song Snooze, and more..Lol. I like it when the whole group combines Rap and vocal too! He put so much of his own into making the first video as cinematic as possible. He knew his vision. It can be confusing though if you don’t know as much of his backstory for the first 2 videos especially. Personally, I relate to him the most. He stands up for his friends, members, BTS, and is open to ARMY about his past struggles. I’m not open, but I actually see some similarity with you. You are a genuine reactor who tells us what you honestly feel about whatever you watch. I appreciate that you don’t pretend to like everything like most newer reactors. Not everyone likes all the music and that’s fine. I think it is great that you watched some on your own and told the truth and also which ones you really enjoyed! I’m commenting halfway through so thank you for your opinion and I do hope you check out some more genres. Suga is an incredible writer and producer who also produces for other artists. Either way, I’m subbed already and looking forward to the music you check out! 💜🇨🇦

Thanks for reacting to this Agust D trilogy! I really appreciate it. It's interesting, because in a way, it tells stories both visually and through its lyrics and sound. He produced, wrote and composed all of this 3 songs. DAECHWITA shows us the struggle, the contrast between the "powerful" represented by the king or emperor, and the "common people" through the video, besides the fact that culturally it has many other factors that give more depth to this "struggle" to succeed from the lowest. If we listen to the lyrics, it tells in some way everything that happened, and they went through as a group, to be able to obtain the recognition they have today, as well as their constant desire to stay humble, with their feet on the ground, to remember that they are the same Yoongi from before they got to that place. In HAEGEUM, we see what we can interpret as the common "citizen" of Daechwita's MV, who now, after gaining "power" became "corrupt" or "bad". Again we see from the VM how they confront each other and how what may appear to be "good" is not really so (the "bad guy" appears as a detective in the video), or how the "leaders" can lead us astray. In the lyrics, we see how he criticizes society, and what is great is that he always makes it about himself in the video, speaking to everyone and to himself equally. Important fact, Haegeum besides being a two-stringed tradicional instrument has another meaning which is to "lift a ban". AMYGDALA finally shows us how Agust D is "born" or rather the character with the scar in the videos. It tells us that bad things happen, but that it is up to us how we react to them, and that many times, we ourselves are the ones who leave scars. He also tells us his story, his traumas. That even if bad things happen we can overcome them because "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and "in the end you will bloom like a lotus flower". Lotus flowers grow in the middle of mud or difficult places, and they are very beautiful. It's a nice metaphor and a beautiful reminder.

BTS is big on talking about mental illness. One of their notable ones is Blue and Gray(witten by V). As sb who did struggle and sometimes still struggles with depression, I must say Agust D is able to express things I d never be able to put on paper. The issue with the mental illness topic is that as you said - many people don t really even hear about it - and the sad part usually is that it is coz people who do struggle very rarely talk about it. Usually when you need most of the help is when you are in your most fragile state - and that is a stte where is is so scary to reach out. BTS s goal is to normalize talking about these topics, which I respect so much. I have no doubt it will help a lot of people.

No doubt ARMY has explained this trilogy. Suga is an amazing artist, expressing the hate he received by hiphop/rappers when he became an idol, and he also tells a story in his lyricism about his personal hardships. HIs fight with his 'Alter Ego' in a sense.

thanks you (from one music lover to another) for taking the time to appreciate this! i got into agust d before i started really listening to bts (did not know they were the same person😅) so his music has always stuck with me. BTS in general has so much lore, and just like Agust D, their storyline is very raw and real about mental health, and once you put the pieces together in their music videos and short films it is mind-blowing this world that they’ve created. I saw Agust D in concert in NYC last year, it was absolutely incredible. his first solo concert ever, and he really brought all of this to life. as someone who’s had so many struggles with mental health, seeing it all right in front of me was so emotional :’) BTS comes back in 2025 so I can’t wait to see what they do next and I hope you are able to react to all of their solo music, especially the rappers!!

Thank you so much for reacting to the entire trilogy uninterrupted. His live concert was every bit as captivating as his videos. Maybe even more so, because it was done live & "raw" & really showcases his genius as an artist. Every scene in his performance was created with intention by him. Steve Aoki said “SUGA is a musical genius, when I listen to his music on my own, he’s always doing something i’ll never expect. So i always expect the highest bar from SUGA.”. SUGA (short for "shooting guard", the stage name he uses in BTS & the position he played in school), aka Agustd (SUGA in reverse, dt stands for "Daegu Town", where he's from & uses as his stage name for his solo work; his real name is Min Yoongi. He has also won awards as a producer & produces for BTS. He has struggled with mental illness & has used (& continues to use) his platform to advocate for mental health. The accident in the video was real & that's why he's currently serving in the military in social service work, because of shoulder surgery he had to have because of the accident. In Daechwita, he kills the mad king version of himself; in Haegum, he kills the corrupt cop version of himself. The trilogy is all representative of his own growth & struggles throughout his life. I hope you get a chance to watch some videos from his 2023 concert tour. By the way, at his last concert performance in Seoul, he is finally able to walk through the door you saw at the end of "Amygdala". Thank you for a well done & thoughtful reaction 👍. Borahae 💜

Listening to BTS song makes me feels like they’re accompanying me sitting in the corner of my dark room until I can get up on myself. They understand my sadness, my depression and my grief. They don’t force me to overcome my depression but they let me know all those feeling is valid so I can stand up by myself, for myself. They saved me through their story and their song. When people around me empathizing the toxic positivity, they cry with me, they understand me and validate my feelings. Thank you for giving BTS a chance. Love your reaction 💜

Thank you for listening to other BTS songs. As Army I totally understand that not everyone would like all of their song, I'm just glad you could find some of BTS song that you love. I just want to inform you that you missed the first part of the Agust D trilogy. The trilogy consists of 2 mixtapes and 1 studio album. Yoongi(Suga's birth name) introduces Agust D in 2016 as his alter ego which differentiates his persona from Suga of BTS. Though Suga also wrote about BTS's struggle in some of their songs, Agust D was able to convey a certain tone of raw emotion and angsty attitude in his music that can't be expressed as the "K-pop idol" Suga of BTS. The Agust D trilogy contains three albums/mixtapes: AGUST D (with the title track "Agust D"), D-2 (with the title track "Daechwita"), and D-Day (with the title track "Heageum"). The first two acts are filled with the anger and rage he felt, especially during the early days of his career. Back in the day, there was a certain stigma attached to kpop idols in which they were not acknowledged enough as a musician. Despite the fact that he writes his own rap parts and produces some of their music, he is still seen as a stereotypical "idol". But on the other hand, since they don't come from one of the top kpop agencies, they become an easy target to be scrutinized by the whole industry. In the first mixtape, he talks a lot about the dilemma that he has to face and the insecurity as well as depression he had during the early years of his career. I really recommend you to listen to his first mixtape, cause he talks a lot about this issue there. He also brings this same attitude into his second mixtape(D-2). However, unlike in the first mixtape, in D-2, the insecurity he tells is not because he fears he will not make it in his career but more because of the dream itself. There are also some regrets and longing for true freedom. In hindsight, daechwita MV portrays Agust D from 2016 has already become a king but he is in conflict with another Agust D, crazy king who blindly uses his power and then the rabble tries to take down the tyrant king. This represents Agust d with all his past trauma and the constant struggle to achieve his dream, but now that he has all his dreams, he is scared of the height it takes him and how lonely it feels. Agust d often uses lots of cultural reverence and many korean words/slang that don't have the same context when translated to English, like in daechwita for example, the lyrics "shove the past into the rice" is a reference from a story of a Korean crown prince in Joseon era that were confined in the rice chest by the order of the king a.k.a his father, he later unalive due to starvation inside the rice chest. So by saying "shove the past into the rice" is him saying that he wants to get rid of all his past mistakes and regrets. Even Dechwita itself is a genre of Korean traditional music and was used to be played by only the military band. In the Joseon era, Daecwita was played as a victory march. So basically by saying play daechwita it is like a symbol of winning the war, or the inner turmoil war that he has. For the last chapter of the trilogy, Agust d takes a slightly different approach with more positivity than his past two mixtapes. Yes, it still has a lot of dark tones in it, but not as much as his past mixtape. Through The D-Day album Agust d also talks about his struggle but here we are able to see him relieving his trauma as a part of his healing(just like in "Amygdala" n "Snooze [feat. ryuichi sakamoto, Woosung of the rose]"). Heagum has a direct translation of 'lifting the ban', so I think it also aligns with the lyrics about wanting to be liberated. He also touches on many social issues in this album like in "Polar Night" and "HUH?".

Suga (Agust D) is very open to his mental health struggles and always has been. It’s a very taboo topic that he refuses to shy away from. I would suggest listening to The Last and Snooze to add to how far he has come and how he doesn’t want to see those coming up behind him suffering the way he did.

This trilogy swings from his response to his haters, his fears that his fame will eventually destroy him, to the fear and depression caused by his past. He was trapped in that room with all this stuff running through his head. But his last gift to himself and to his fans before military service was the last DDay concert he walked through the door. In the first song on the DDay album he tells us that everything is going to be ok. He unpacks a lot of heavy stuff and yet gives us hope. Genius.
