FUN FACT: Jim Seals of Seals & Crofts is the brother of Dan Seals who went on to become a big country star. But he was first famous as part of a duo that rivaled and even surpassed Seals & Crofts' success: His stage name at the time was "England Dan" and he partnered with John Ford Coley on a string of big hits -- many of which I love (and I know Amber does too).😊

I've been exploring these guys beyond their hits by checking out deep album cuts, and I've been blown away honestly. Superb musicianship and very sophisticated songwriting. They are almost prog-like in the way they explore harmonic complexity and the way the music can twist and turn, but it's always anchored by a keen sense of melody and their great vocal harmonies. I've always liked them, but I definitely have a deeper appreciation for them now.

The ad in Billboard magazine announced "Introducing SOUL and CROFTS" Carolyn was one of the backup singers in the Honey Cone, who had a clutch of hits in the late 60/early 70s, including two #1 R&B hits, "Want Ads" and "Stick-Up", two Gold records from 1971 ("Want Ads" also went to #1 on the Pop charts).

I was 22 and crazy about a guy. He was sweet good looking and hard working. We were together about a year when he got into drugs. He knew that was something I would never put up with. I stopped seeing him because it just got worse. He ended up so sad. Drugs took over his life and he eventually died from an overdose. When this song first came out we were listening to it one night and he told me to think of him when I hear it. Every since then I have never been able to hear it without thinking of him as soon as it starts playing. RIP Andy.😢😢

"The Last Picasso" - Neil Diamond and any song in "Serenade". "Coldwater Morning" - Truly nothing like Neil's Taproot Manuscript album "Crescent Noon" - On Carpenter's "Close To You" album "Eres Tu" - Stands out as a Spanish song that made the charts recorded by Spanish band Mocedades in 1973. "Windsong" by John Denver, released in September 1975. "Through the Eyes of Love" (1978) Super sappy love song perfect for a movie about an ice skater who goes blind. Performed by Melissa Manchester.

This song always brings back so many summer memories when I was a little kid in the 70's. My brother and I would be outside and my dad would be doing yard work with his transistor radio playing and this song was one that always seemed to be on. Summer was so special at that age. Simpler times when a water hose was all we needed to spray each other down and run around on the wet grass, sun shining down. My dad was always outside during the summer, shirt off and tan. He loved to wash & wax his car, grill and drink his cans of beer and back then it wasn't a crime for kids to sip some of it without the neighbors turning you in. The visual is surreal when I hear this song. Brings a smile to my face and a sort of melancholy. Nice one to react to.

Seals and Crofts always had great harmonies and deep meaning in their lyrics. They had been around since the 50's in the LA music scene as house musicians. At one point in the late 50's early 60's they toured with the Champs ("Tequila") with Jim Seals on sax and Dash Crofts on drums along with a guitarist named Glen Campbell. England Dan of England Dan and John Ford Coley ("Really Love to See You Tonight") is Jim Seal's brother. Music is an amazing vehicle to transport us to places we never thought we could go. Peace out.
