Your excitement is so nice to see. It's nice that you will enjoy one of the most special holiday's in western culture. Have fun with Christmas, shopping, enjoying a special meal out on the town, and seeing all the holiday lights in your town/village. Enjoy the holiday festivities and enjoy putting ornaments on your tree! Many prople will select a tree ornament with special meaning to them, and take special care of it so each year it can be placed on the Christmas tree! Making memories at Christmas time is so much fun!

I hope you both have a wonderful first Christmas together. I know at some point it will give you pause to reflect. I spent 2 weeks in England "on holiday" while in the army. I loved the churches. The people were great. Not enough sun, tho. I have learned a lot. Keep sharing. God bless!

I don't celebrate Christmas as I'm Jewish so I'm saved on that expense, but it doesn't surprise me about the cost of trees now. It seems everything is a shock when it comes to prices. I think I would just go out into the woods and find a real tree to decorate or purchase a live indoor potted tree and take care of it year-round and just decorate it every year.

Bonkers is a good word. It should be used more often :-) Apparently, it's first known use was only in 1945, so it's a quite recent word. You may also know the word "conker". Maybe they're related.
@GobbyLisa996 күн бұрын
Conker is first time heard . It’s a tree
@expatexpat65316 күн бұрын
@@GobbyLisa99 It's the seed of the chestnut tree and a children's game - google "conkers". BTW: Were your parents-in-law Jehovah's Witnesses? My grandmother and grand uncle were Jehovah's Witnesses - they didn't celebrate Christmas or birthdays, so no presents from them at Christmas or on my birthday as a child. Boo-hoo. ;-) If you don't want to get into religion, I can understand that.

Think of it this way....when you buy a fake Christmas tree it lasts many many years. So actually works out cheap. I've been using mine for nearly thirty years. Enjoy putting it up "Gobby Bonkers"🤣
@cdl06 күн бұрын
Mine is a real one that lives in a big pot that I drag in every year from the garden. I always leave everything to the last minute, and bought it many years ago a few days before Christmas at half price because it was the last one, and so small that I had to stand on a table. Now it is so big I can barely get it in the house! As for the decorations, I used the same ones since sometime in the last century.

Bonkers - a little bit crazy, but in the good way. Remember if it's a fake tree you can keep it and use it for the next few years, so spread over the life of the tree it's not so expensive.

@@GobbyLisa99 Another good word is - eccentric - I like this word, I apply it to myself (and other Englishmen) - a bit like bonkers it means a little bit crazy or odd or thinks a little bit different. I revel in being eccentric, it confuses "foreigner" - especially the French, but that's a historic rivalry.

Seriously!? Bought a fake Christmas tree. But didn't get the all in one fibre optic rgb light up tree. Wouldn't have really needed the extra lights, maybe just a few baubles & a tree topper. Yeah, maybe you're a little bonkers, but at least you've got the Christmas spirit. You're first go at a whole Christmas dinner, now that will be interesting to see. A turkey with all the trimmings, christmas pudding, mince pies, christmas crackers, lots of candy, crisps, fizzy drinks, ice cream, cake, snacks & booze. Meeting with the family, even a drunk uncle. Going to the Christmas church service, caroling, maybe even some time helping at the homeless shelter for the less fortunate. Then there's watching the Kings Christmas message, Christmas tv show specials, Christmas movies. Watching Die Hard, at Christmas is a must, it's set during Christmas, don't let people tell you otherwise. Next day, turkey leftover sandwiches & trip out to the boxing day sales.

@GobbyLisa99 Indeed. Very well put, cherishing people & moments, something that's often rather lacking in this modern era. Reminds me of everyone with their phones out recording, at the live concerts & music festivals. Watching through their tiny screens, not the real life event in front of them. Just how people manage to follow these trends & justify it to themselves, is mind boggling. Enjoy the rest of the mid autumn holiday, Halloween & Guy Fawkes Day. Candy & Fireworks are always fun. Hope you all have an incredible first Christmas & a Happy New Year!
