So excited to try Durian and Natto

​@@pepperat1372I'd always recommend Asian markets. Unfortunately, Asian markets can be so overpriced, especially if you're not familiar with quality and ripeness, it can be very challenging. Always feel free to ask an Asian person, even if they're customers. I find that Filipinos are the friendliest and they love to share their knowledge of food. Don't hesitate to ask, though, Asians are super helpful if they feel comfortable enough to communicate. Sometimes it's the language barrier that scares them. They're also helpful in telling you if something is too expensive.

Natto definitely needs those sauce packets. You actually did better than I expected with it, but on the upside, natto is packed with protein and high in probiotics. Some people say durian smells like onions gone bad and feet😅 Durian is one of Anthony Bourdain's favorite foods. I'm glad you got to try both, although I'm very impressed with your appreciation for durian, because that is exactly how many people that like durian describe it. It also has a slight cheesy note which is probably how some register the texture being almost like a cross between brie and cream cheese. ❤❤❤

I have a very open mind when trying new things. I don't let others sway my opinion. I've actually gone back and tried the Natto again and kinda like it. I'm craving durian lol. Yes there is a cream cheese feel to it. That durian cost $50 so it's a treat I will get seldom.

@lauraskitchen5706 yes, they're very pricey because of how dangerous it is to harvest them and the import taxes as well. I'm half Japanese, so eating natto for me is natural. I do enjoy eating it chopped with green onions, sushi rice, and korean nori. The Korean nori has a sesame and salt flavor, which makes it tastier. You are awesome, Laura! I was really impressed with your sense of adventure ❤️

I had a lump in my throat watching this vid. There are people in my neighborhood (all 10 of them in a 15 mile radius…LOL) that eat wood chucks & squirrels. 🤮. Turkey, rabbits & deer maybe. You can’t take the city out of this forest boy..!!! ❤❤❤

This is a frozen durian. Should try the fresh one just ripen from tree. You will love it gradually and its smell is strong

i've always wanted to try durian, but since it smells so bad and is most often not allowed in airports they are not able to be shipped to where i live which is a little dissapointing

The beans are cooked. haha Natto (and durian) are among those things that you either like it or you don't. I love me some natto, but durian makes me wanna puke my lungs out. haha

You're tougher than I am, Laura! hahaha As for natto, I find that I can't stand the stuff they sell here in Canada, because it has been frozen for shipping. Something is different about it. Every time I go back to Japan, I eat tonnes of it. Nowadays, my wife makes it in my kitchen. I like eating the product, but it makes the entire house smell like natto, so that's a minus. =(

To be honest though, she HAS appeared in my videos, but only as an, "easter egg." Hello! may i say one thing, your durian was too old to eat. Durian should be green, inside the shell should be white not brown and the pulp should be dry and liter firm. If you live in western countries, please do not buy whole durian, when the durian falls from the tree max 36 hours, you must eat the whole durian. maybe i can give you a tip, you can buy frozen durian from the chinese shop in your hometown
