If you read the lyrics it might make more sense, he's originally from the UK so the accent can throw people off sometimes.. "hypin' like Tyson (mike tyson) and icon - go twice in, left rightin' (left and right hook/boxing reference) I'm strikin' - like I'm bitin' like a python (Mike Tyson bit Holyfields ear off lol) He also produces his own music. I hooked you up with another one - a Nas remix that maybe your guy will be able to connect with a little more. It's the Halftime remix basically.

I’m from Yorkshire England but live in Tampa Florida my 24 year old daughter and brother in LAW from LA listen to all the latest American rappers it’s been in my life for years back from 50 cent up to Migos through little Wayne to savage. Kendrick lil baby future all of it to what’s going on in 20024 . I always keep an open mind you have to to appreciate it .funny thing is I’m 55 and started listening to to rap back in 1984 when it kind of originated breakdancing to African bambata and the soul sonic force , grand master flash , run dmc, could gon on lol. Most people bop to this, but if you read the lyrics, it's very, very clever. The video starts by inviting you into the mind of the illest of our time. It's a little crazy in there, but bounces nost between being braggadocious and talking about him being medically ill. The end is all about being in despair on not finding answers (an accurate diagnosis), which leaves him, he guesses, as the illest of our time.

Ren usually pins the lyrics in the comments… Might help the guy recognise the genius at display to know what Ren is spitting. LOL Your buddy does not like it. Ren it so very different, it is not for everyone. Ren is hard to understand due to his accent; typically, he does not pronounce T's and has a harsh accent. But if you pull up the lyrics it is genius. Is there meaning in 'Illest of Our Time'? Somewhat, yes. Ren plays with words a lot and there is not always meaning.

This is not the ideal song to use to introduce a guy (who has a set way of seeing things, which we all do). He should get a bit of the background, then start with Hi Ren and go on to Troubles, Nas Retake, and the Hunger. If REN’s not his cup of tea, no problem. But it’s a shame if he doesn’t get the chance to really get it. He should start with Knox Hill’s breakdown of Hi Ren. He will get the genius of Ren from that Master Class. Knox kills it. I just watched 17tayy react to this “Illist of our Time” as a newbie and you couldn’t get two more different reactions. 17tayy caught almost all the lyrical references and flows. (Obviously he had seen one or two of REN’s videos.) I’d love to see your friend learn more. I get the feeling he would love him.
