In case you (or anyone really) are interested, this and “The Song Burning in the Embers” animations were made by newly established internal 2D animation unit for Genshin. There was an interview between a professional animation channel on Bilibili and this animation team. Some points that i saw from the translation post of the interview: 1. The animation team for “Genshin Impact” comprises directors, animators, animation supervisors, art directors, colorists, cinematographers, and producers. 2. Many team members have extensive experience in the animation industry, including some who have worked abroad. Their production process adheres to systematic guidelines. 3. Beyond the internal team, external collaborators also contributed to “The Song Burning in the Embers.” 4. Throughout the production of the short film, there was close collaboration between the animation team and the game development team. The story was provided by the IP department, and the director worked alongside them to establish storyboards. Original game artists supervised character and scene design, with continuous feedback from game developers to ensure alignment. 5. Their animation production process aligns with industry standards, but for intense action scenes, they utilize 3D modeling to enhance composition. 6. The song “Emberfire” created specifically for the short film, had visual references provided to the composer during production. The seamless integration of the music and visuals elevated the overall impact of the animation. 7. The animation team is actively recruiting additional staff and has plans for more future works Additionally, it’s interesting to note that miHoYo previously had an animation department called miHoyoAnime, which primarily focused on CG and pre-production stages. However, the current “Genshin Impact” animation team specializes in 2D animation and operates as a comprehensive production unit. So, there's a big chance that we'll be getting more and more of these types of animated shorts.

This short wasn't made by new "Genshin" animation department, it was made by usual mihoyoanime team. You can see difference in animation style. Also the direction of music short was absolutely stunning while Emberfire had mistakes in direction and writing which is okay as it is a new studio and they need more experience.

The version trailer feels so packed because it starts with the event quest for the patch(the murder mystery stuff) and then mixes in the main story and the 2 character stories of the 2 new 5 stars. That's why it starts fun and becomes darker and more mysterious later on. Edit: The start is not from an event quest but most likely from the clorinde story quest.

Of course, for all we know, whatever story we do get might be more foreshadowing in the vein of the very end of the Arataki event from this patch.

@@effortlessfury idk about non-voiced, but the flagship event in 4.0 (or 4.1? The one with free bennett) didn't have any playable characters, nor was it featured in the trailer. In this trailer's beginning we see what is most likely Chlorinde's SQ, as it involves tabletop rpg, which matches both the visuals and the voice-over in the trailer. The flagship event on the other hand takes place in Liyue, and none of the location was shown in the trailer

This is indeed a heavy patch. Patches where Dainsleif appears usually drop massive lore, and they've also added two new 5-star characters (which means two new character story quests, as well). We don't yet know whether what we see in the trailer is real, but if it IS real, we see the Traveler and their sibling meeting face-to-face, so that would be pretty huge. The story is beginning its ramp toward the endgame over the next couple of years. Also, you may be interested in the Natlan teaser video they released, if you want a peek at what the next region will look like.

I have to admit, I was super surprised by this animated short. Genshin isn’t really one of those games I’ve ever been able to get in to, due to not being able to handle open world games to well. Too many distractions for my ADD brain. The one thing I’ll give is that his short got me to try to work my way through. I only know a minor amount of the story, but enough to find myself crying from this short.

I hope you'll get through to his quests soon he's what u might say the REAL driving force on our purpose of going across Teyvat and the all sibling storyline. But from Arlecchino they stepped up on their game including songs and stuff. And now this beautiful piece of art with Aimer!! Hey, as a player whos playing from update to update and being catched up for a long time now, i can tell you it really is a HUGE update! Dainsleif quests are always huge but seeing the sibling again is something we waited for so long to happen and then we have that much more in this patch. Two character story quests, the event looks good, a new permanent domain. You're absolutely right it truly is huge. Oh and story wise its also a giant step forward that "the loom of fate" is completed.

There's an amazing fan animation named "End of all" that Aimer sung a song for, it's been re-uploaded to KZbin from Bilibili. It's amazing but the impact would be 10 times more effective if you do the Fontaine story and the World quests associated beforehand. That's a lot to ask so if you just want to check out a cool animation with an Aimer song you won't be spoiled without knowing the context of what's going on, there's no explicit spoilers that really matter or you'll remember.

People like to joke about twincest and make it gross when they don't stop to think of what it might feel like for someone to lose their TWIN. it's funny that i watched the the new release special on another reactor's channel that i follow, and when they played this animated short in that moment i literally thought to myself "that sounds an awful lot like Aimer...", and as we all know it was. just really cool that one of my favorite Japanese artists is slowly becoming an integral part of HoyoMix. kind of wish they'd give Myth & Roid a second go around, though - it was a shame that the event that M&R did a song for HI3 got axed alongside the event because it went over like a wet fart in church with the Chinese censures.

Genshin takes a lot of Ls when comes to player engagement but the story has so much emotion and depth to it especially after 3 years actually being the traveller. Doing hsr story, hoyo is still pulling punches. I hope Wuthering waves get number 1 spot and hoyo finally goes all out, it would be really nice to see genshin back in action in all its glory.

It's not at all weird to forget the main story, it gets about 4 hours of content a year. Story is really good but damn are they trying to ruin the telling in every way sometimes

You do know it takes time to make story and it’s never been somthing to complete fast, there is regions to build, events, characters, it’s not just the story that matters lol, without the world and events, it’s jackshit This is like the last complain people should have

It’s also not REALLY the main story. It’s the overarching driving plot point but it’s not THE point. Also Luke explores a LOT, which is fine, but that also contributes to how easy it is to forget about the story lol

Fontaine was over 10 hours not including all the story quest. Genshin has always been more about the over arching story and journey with lore building and character story.

I’d still choose the colorful element reaction. I finished Wuwa’s first quest and was not hooked up unlike in Genshin, who gave us a goal to finding our twin sister and that’s why this animation hits hard to Genshin lore lovers. Wuwa has potential and certainly hope the lore will get better.
