I was so excited at the start of this episode getting to see them be together but of course we had the hot and coldness of sonja and even are on a break because he told her about Isak, to needing to slow down, to Isak seeing even kiss sonja again! was it all a lie?? 🤔 I loved the conversation with eskild and watching eskild very respectfully put him in his place and try to offer a way for him to see what he had said a little differently! ugh, I'm getting worried about Isak and need to just give him a hug! 😭🩶

I don’t know if someone mentioned this but from my understanding of this episode and their talk of parallell universes, this is were all the other Skam-shows originated from. Like all the other European versions of Skam. That’s pretty deep. And awesome.

It’s such a well known, classic scene from this show that most of the remakes kept this scene almost exactly the same, (along with a few other classic scenes.) It’s soooo good! Also I can’t remember if it’s explicitly said or just the vibe I/we got but I think Mahdi and Magnus are new-er to the friend group? Like for years it was just Jonas and Isak - so idk if they know all the stuff with his mum. Mahdi was still being a bit of a dick like he was clearly upset so maybe don’t take the piss, but maybe he didn’t know the full context! (P.s keep an eye out for Mahdi’s smile though, it’s like pure sun, we love him xxx) (Also Even’s smiley eyes are the best thing ever xx)

yes great point! I think it more so bothered me because clearly isak was upset and I felt like he just kept pushing. I know Jonas knows about his mom and I was pretty sure no one else did, but there's also reading the room and I felt like there was none of that 🤣 I'm so glad you get me on even's smiley eyes 🩶

Omg that first scene is so iconic xD It was everywhere over internet when it come out, I think it’s the reason I watched the show in the first place (I think it was in some compilatit of shows with queer characters). But the way they just lay upside down, and the nose kisses, and the feeling like they are in their own world - it’s just 🫠🫠🫠 For a good while, them and Malec, were my OTPs, like favourite tv couples xD I think you get why xD Oh and the conversation with Eskild is one of the best scenes from this show. So well wroten. Internalised homophobia’s a bi*ch, and makes Isak be a little sh*t sometimes. He rly needed the talk Eskild gave him ❤️

To be fair on Mahdi and Magnus it was stated in the first episode that they are very newly acquainted with Isak so I don’t think they know anything about what’s going on with Isak’s family things and it’s also maybe they’re not picking up the signs as well as Jonas

13:25 some Norwegians have thankfully kind of broken down this scene dialogue-wise on Tumblr back when the season came out... This scene has a mistranslation in it but it's also something that's just really difficult to translate from Norwegian into other languages.... So like English has like a past tense and a present tense for words.... But Norwegian has like a "hypothetical" tense is how they described it... And that is what Even is using in this scene. So the mistranslation of "they *would have* loved you" after Even using present tense the entire conversation... The entire scene in Norwegian Even is using this hypothetical tense when talking about meeting Isaks parents and vice versa... And pretty much ALL of Skam is fan translated so there were no original official translations into English.... The version that you are watching is the most polished version of the translations that exist out there but there's still mistakes that potentially professional translation team wouldn't make. Sometimes the fan translators would struggle to figure out how to translate something properly(in OG skam and in the remakes- all of it is fan translated) ...and so this scene happened where all of a sudden Even switched to the past tense when talking about his parents in English. In the original Norwegian he's using the same tense the entire time but it's a tense that doesn't exist in English so they had to like move things around in a way that doesn't sound natural in English. It makes it sound like his parents are dead. 100% But his parents aren't dead. Isak and Even are just throwing hypotheticals at each other about how their parents might react when meeting each of them. But Evens abrupt shift in his emotions in this scene... In English, it makes it seem like he's kind of sad that his parents won't ever meet Isak because they're dead... But he's actually just sad at what Isak just said in the previous line of dialogue. The mistranslation PLUS the tonal shift of Evan's emotions just make it REALLY easy to assume that his parents are dead lmaooo you are definitely not the first person to jump to that conclusion. Pretty much every English speaker who has reacted to skam here on KZbin has come across this mistranslation and been confused. Hell I mean, I was pretty confused when I first watched the show back when it was airing until I stumbled across that post from that wonderful and kind Norwegian person who broke down the exact sentence structures and explained what everything actually meant in the scene. They didn't have to do that. But it is super appreciated as someone who only speaks English.

Yeah, about Evens actor and his facial expressions. And smiling eyes. I absolutely agree.... Both of the actors in this season are absolutely AMAZING at portraying emotion on their faces usually in a subtle way... Joy just really bursts across Evans actors face... In a way that you can see in his eyes, 100%. It feels real. Unfortunately, I don't think that Evans actor really did anything else after this show acting-wise ... But he has been to a few Skam conventions over the years... It would be really cool if you could react to one of them maybe the one that had him and other Evan charater actors from the remakes...that convention panel was great... He speaks English in most of the interviews that he is done.. his voice is SO deep in english and REALLY nice to listen to... Isaks actor has continued acting... and he was a child actor, if I recall correctly. But yeah they are both so good at acting. Some of the remakes unfortunately weren't able to quite reach the caliber of acting that these two actors did in this show... Some of the remakes absolutely did!... but not all of them.

I love this ep so much ahHHH First of all every time I see Even leaning on that sports hall door way I think he looks exactly like Kiera knightly and it cracks me up every time Second it’s so interesting the subtitles you have are slightly different than the version I had (lmao that I’ve seen it enough to recognise the different phrasing) and it makes me wonder if you have the more accurate version or I do because Even deffo says more like “I think they would/will love you” in the version I’ve seen ?? I love Eskild’s speech so much I think that’s such an important scene Idk if you’ve already watched further than this episode but just FYI between this episode and the next episode there was a week off and Isak skipped school (we could tell via texts if I remember correctly) - just feel like it adds important context to the vibes in the next one !!!

What Even said could be interpreted as both "I think they would love you" & “I think they would have loved you” Its up to the translator to choose which one to put, but both are correct translation

Yeah, this show did something pretty revolutionary with the depiction of Isak's internalized homophobia. It's something that I really have not seen in any other gay show. But it's something that absolutely happens in real life. There can be quite a negative stigma towards effeminate gay men. And I think they depicted it perfectly... I've seen posts from people who put themselves above gay pride in the exact same way that Isak is. They unfortunately don't always have an Eskild to bring them back down to earth and explain WHY that line of thinking is problematic. As you said, there's nothing wrong with Isak being more masculine... But he shouldn't be putting himself above effeminate gay men. What's really interesting is that Eskilds actor has said in an interview (a couple of years after the show ended) that he was actually kind of in Isak's position in real life at that point in his life... Kind of looking down on more "stereotypical" gay people out there... But this show helped him see the error in that way of thinking. Which is pretty cool and special. You may have had this explained in the comments section... I don't think I've seen it though...I think this show has a pretty accurate feel when it comes to who the characters are and how they act because the creator and writer of this show interviewed teens in real life. And took aspects from those interviews and wove them into the show. I think for this season it was two separate people who she talked to ...one boy who was dealing with homosexuality and potentially internalized homophobia like Isak is and another boy who was dealing with bipolar... From what I understand of the interviews, the two people didn't know each other but Julie took both of their stories and decided to make them a couple in the show... which is kind of cute, sorta. 🤣 Also strange, I guess. For those people... But still kinda cute!

nei, oversettelsen er riktig. Even sier "de HADDE elsket deg" (they WOULD HAVE loved you). Han ordlegger seg på denne måten etter Isak sier han har det bedre uten psykisk syke i livet sitt, og som vi ser senere ut i serien så er Even psykisk syk, og etter denne kommentaren fra Isak, velger Even å distansere seg fra ham. Det er en forvirrende ordleggelse der og da (som er meningen i manuset), men gir mening og payoff senere.

Eskild's speech about Gay pride was spot on and even more important today with the right-wing backlash in so many democracies. I was pissed with Even for outing Isak to Sonja and then running back to her.

i don’t think he was “outing” isak to sonja. or at least it was not done with any ill-intention. im pretty sure sonja would have figured it out when he left the party with isak and if he did just tell her he had fallen for someone else, she would definitely have known who or at least demanded to know who. considering isak was hooking up with HER bf, i think she had the right to know what was going on.

Agree. I'm an Evak schipper, but I'm also a defender of Sonja. She didn't deserve to be treated like this by Evan. Spoiler spoiler spoiler, she's an incredibly strong girl. All she wanted to do was protect Evan, even though he hurt her so much.

@@KBeezsame here! i love even and isak but i also feel so bad for sonja and emma. even though sonja and emma have been out of line at certain points, they both were used/cheated on by the boys. i hate how they tend to get so much hate by viewers. the whole point of the show is that they are all human and deserve to be understood/respected. (besides williams brother… he can f*ck off😅)

very interesting points from all sides!! I wasn't too mad about even telling Sonja and/or Sonja telling Emma because I feel like they did have the right to know. what bothered me the most was Emma running around telling people and telling isak that he needed to get out of the closet because that wasn't her place at all to do. the only issue I really had with Sonja was in episode 8 at the end with the way she treats isak and tells him that everything was a lie basically and even doesn't like him and stuff! 🩶
