To sum up what Gareth and John said: France are the luckiest team in the world 😂 But yes, Italy probably deserved more, and it's great to see them compete. As a Scotland fan, I have slowly come to terms with the defeat over the last few days because this wasn't embarassing like it would have been in yesteryear, it was a defeat against a genuinely good team that could have won four of five matches

I don't think people are asking for them to get the boot, they were asking for a play off between the bottom placed team of the 6 nations vs the top placed team in the rugby europe championship... ie so there is a pathway for those teams to the top level.

@@masss1 if Italy/Wales/England or whoever comes last in the 6 nations cant beat the top placed team from the tier below, then they should not be in the next 6 nations, on merit... they can win the rugby europe championship and then win the playoff at the end of the next season to be promoted again.

I believe the reason why Italy were so composed after being 2 tries down after 20 minutes was their the first half performance against France. Italy were sure they could get back in the game because their defence won't crumble and Scotland will struggle to keep crazy high tempo on attack. That first half against France made all the difference. (Fischetti also said something similar in a post game interview after the sco game)

This aged well. Because goddamn it did they to anything to get that first half place, and, to quote you from a video a year ago, boy was it glorious! Absolutely delighted to see Italy be an absolute menace in that championship and their level rise every single game. My team may not have won, but this must have been one of the most entertaining rugby tournaments I've seen in my life. Not a single game was a write-off, and the tournament itself kept us on our toes down to the very last minute of the very last game. More. Please. Rugby teams all over the world. More of this.

After years of hammerings, along with slight showings of promise (2007, 2013) a losing streak of near fifty games, and once resorting to playing a flanker at scrum half, Italian rugby looks to finally be coming of age. I wont lie when I was younger I did enjoy the near annual thumping of Italy but as I've grown older (and been on the side of batterings in my local team myself) I couldn't be happier for them. The day Italy win a six nations which could be in the next decade or so, I will be celebrating with them.

To be fair, there have been 36 games before Italy won again...I say this because I'm italian and I don't want to minimise the facts but exaggerate them neither. I'm glad you have a soft spot for Italy, can I ask where are you come from? It has always been hard to support Italy over the years, but this seems like a real turning point for us now. Recently, after the world cup, I had lost all of my hopes...now I can smile thinking about what Italy have achieved within the last Six Nations!

Good work on the tactical detail. Was at the Game and Italy fed off the intensity of the crowd especially when Horne's try was disallowed. There is much talk in sport of how momentum can be difficult to get back when it shifts against you - this was an absolute lesson in this aspect and is a factor that can't be underestimated in this game. Well played Italy. When assessing the Italian nearly win against France, if you are being objective, they played 40 minutes against 14 men and couldn't get the job done. Italy are going in the right direction undeniably and should be ambitious for performances in 2025 given the talent they have but may still struggle in arm wrestles against the big boys (as evidenced by Ireland result).

But we wernt good enough and blew our shot. Dupont and france will be back next year. England and Wales both look promising. @@Zomo1553 Agree with all of that bar Wales... I don't see much promise in that Welsh side aside from a lot of heart. I imagine this could be a low point for them, so many good players have retired and there are very few to replace them. Rio Dyer looks exciting but most of that is just because he's playing in such a poor squad. Not sure how many of them will make it in to the Lions.

This really shuts up those demanding Italy be thrown out of the 6N. Anyone who actually follows union closely and across the globe knew that their u20s were getting better and better. Players like Gritti, Gallorini, Odiase and Scalabrin are the next names to match those of Menoncello and Marin. If anything Georgia also need adding to the 6N. Their u20s are higher ranked than Wales and Scotland. Quesada is a great coach too. I can see some similarity to the emerging Pumas of the early 2000s for example in the kicking game and exit strategy.

Interesting the number of times you identified Italy winning breakdowns with just one player. I don't understand Watson and Ritchie absence from this squad and don't think it's a coincidence that Scotland aren't competing at the breakdown as much now (this is just an impression from watching the games, no idea if stats back it up). I'm not convinced by Christie, Dempsey or Darge. Scotland have moved on or lost a number of players over the last few years who had real leadership and experience (Ritchie, Watson, J.Gray, Harris, Hogg, Brown, McInally, Price) and I think they're lacking a bit of that now. There was an article on the BBC about scotland rugby floating the notion that the attack is the problem and Russel might not be the best option at 10, which is frankly riduclous, like arguing Haaland is a problem for Man City, or Phil Foden shouldn't play for England. Scotlands real issue is in the forwards. They have an undersized pack, poor second rows now especially compared to the other nations, forwards not carrying well enough (much like Englands before the last couple of games), an unreliable set piece, lack of depth at prop in particular and an unconvincing back row. Their pack is arguably the worst in the 6 nations, I don't think any of them get in any of the other sides, maybe Turner in at hooker for Italy.
